One of my favorite PS2 games! I looked everywhere for this when I first played it on THUG. Loved that it had a career mode. The soundtrack was killer and it introduced me to Faith No More, Disturbed, Distillers, Thrice and Slipknot (which eventually became one of my favorite bands). Wait and Bleed is so good! I always thought of MTX as the THPS of motocross games. Everything about this felt really solid, although, after all these years, it still pisses me off that I grinded my ass off trying to get every single sponsor in career mode, and I couldn't get No Fear to sponsor me... even after beating the career mode 3 times. I got every sponsor except THAT one. It still haunts me to this day.

@K Brunson That was MX vs ATV. Only Offroad Fury 4 had anything other than ATVs, that being bikes buggys and trucks. Otherwise I would love to see a proper review for a lot of these old offroad games, ATV Quad Power Racing, ATV Offroad Fury, MX vs ATV etc. and how they compare.

by the time MTX and WU came out any game with a "Xtreme Person's Pro Sport" name that wasn't Tony Hawk was associated with shite so they pivoted away from that name by the end of the whole O2 soundtrack. Ironic considering their last two games were probably the least bad of the bunch

Really would love to see you have a look at the Skate games, and maybe even a game like BMX XXX, that could lead to a seriously hilarious review. Actually, a look into the world of weird, adult themed games would make an interesting series! Games like that Playboy game on PS2 and BMX XXX would be interesting to see make into your review style. Sounds like you would really enjoy MX vs ATV: Unleashed. It does what MTX Mototrax does but even better and with more variety. I always have a blast hopping back into it. Also, didn't think you could squeeze so much more for Hawktober! Having your reviews every day of the week is a blast. Nice.

Ah, yes.. this one was my favorite alongside THUG 2. Actually this one sparked my love for racing so much that I started racing dirt bikes in real life way back in middle school. There was this, ATV Offroad Fury 3, and MX Unleashed. Three best in the genre imo I’ve really enjoyed this whole trip down memory lane. Thank you for all of it

Nice work on the review dude! I always appreciate it when reviewers can give a balanced opinion without either fanboying/criticising too much. You've presented the pro's and con's of this superbly. It cost me less than a dollar yesterday. As soon as Hawk was mentioned, I was instantly transported back to childhood and all the hours I spent on those THPS games. So if this has that kind of playability, then I've stumbled across an absolute gem!

I had the same problem with cornering! At high speeds (50 mph+ or 80 kph+) the bike is very difficult to turn! So what I found you have to do is you have to break in a straight line down to under 50 mph and then take the corner! They also tell you to use the clutch in corners but don't use it! It only makes slower! Just use it's for starts or after you crash to get back up to speed! Also double tapping the throttle also allows you to do a powerslide that keeps the speed up better then the one you do with the brakes! This is the stuff I kind of used to beat like harder AI in the game! I wish there was a sequel for this game I like this game more than MX vs ATV!

This game is actually simular to Pure, developed by Black Rock Studios and published by Disney Interactive, it was durring their "Yes, we can make real games" state, which ended with Tron: Evolution, a okay tie-in to Tron: Legacy, which is a okay film, with a great soundtrack by Daft Punk. The second game in the state was Split/Second (A.K.A: Split/Second Velocity).

This was an engaging Hawktober since I hadn't seen gameplay for the O2 titles. Super entertaining and also informative. :D Used to play SX Superstar on the Xbox which wasn't good, so I'd be eager to give MTX a try. :)

In track creation you can put tunnels and bridges in, from what I remember you have to cross the tracks when creating and it lets you decide, I haven’t played the game in a while but the next time I’ll do ima check this out to make sure that’s how you do it

Yeah hahah it took me a good few years before I figured that out aswell, must’ve completed it a good 30 times, I remember when I saw it in a store in the U.K. called game-station before it even came out. Was in a black box with a little bit of artwork on the back with writing & in game pictures, Jesus I wish I could go back and play it all over again as a kid, I remember i once even emailed activision asking if they’d ever consider a remake😂 I wouldn’t want it as a modern day game though, I’d love it to be the same graphics, same physics with another version just basically as an expansion pack

The legacy of O2 ends with Pre-Nitro Circus Travis Pastrami doing sick motorcycle tricks. Apparently this one didn't too bad but I dont know why it would get a PSP port 2 years later... wasn't the PSP already out by then? Pastrama was already in Pro Surfer so it's interesting to see him get top billing here, its kinda like Shaun White getting a snowboarding game years after being in Palmer's

Thanks for great Hawktober. I have a couple of suggestions for the next season. - There was a snowboarding game published by Activision back in 2003 called Championship Snowboarding 2004, developed by Cat Daddy Games. I used to play it a lot when I was a teenager and I remember quite liking it. - If you decide to do an entire brand for one of future seasons, you may take a look at EA's EA Sports Big label. It is mostly known for publishing SSX series, however there is more to cover: Freekstyle, Shox, Def Jam Vendetta, Sled Storm etc.

I wish they would come out with more free ride motocross games. Remember those arcade dirt bike games like Freestyle Metalx. There is another one i can't remember the name of but its similar to metalx, i loved that game. Its great when a dirt bike game really does the bike control and physics well, where you can control doing shiftys and flips in a free form manner with the analog sticks.

If there's one thing I don't miss from this era of games it's the darkness. There were some games where it was so dark it was literally unplayable. It took so long as a kid to get past the night part of destiny island in the first kingdom hearts just because we couldn't see anything!

I never knew Mototrax was an 02 game. I played some Motocross games on the N64 and PS1 as a kid and I liked them. I collect the extreme sports games too so I think I am gonna look for this game and see if I can find a copy.
