MUBUTV's Ritch Esra sits down for the season premiere of the "Insider Series" with renown record producer and former RCA and Hollywood Records A&R Executive Brian Malouf who has worked with Madonna, Queen, Michael Jackson, Hall & Oates, Eve Six, Smokey Robinson just to name a few. They discuss many topics including; the main differences between working with an artist as a record producer and signing an artist as an A&R Executive, what the most important factors he looks at when considering producing an artist, knowing that when you get signed to a recording contract, “You’ve just arrived at the starting line” as well as some of the biggest mistakes artists make at the start of their careers.
Brian Malouf is a multi-platinum American producer, engineer, and mixer who has worked with acts such as Michael Jackson, Queen, Madonna, Pearl Jam, Stevie Wonder, Dave Matthews Band, Tokio Hotel, Wolfmother, and All Time Low. Also serving as an executive at several major record labels over the years, his work has amassed a total of 53 gold, platinum, and double platinum records to date.

What was your criteria when you were gonna sign talent at the label?
19:13 - In the days when you did A&R, in the days that I did A&R Eresta, you signed a hundred artists ten or twelve of them were successful. That ratio hasn’t changed. That ratio is still the same. Even though that barrier is we want the natural forces of the market to tell us what is successful, what is it of interest, the success ratio of you think that would prove that there’s a market for it or the beginnings of one isn’t really the reality. What’s your sense of that?
