watch as we upgrade the steering, suspension, brakes, rebuilt the carburetor, installed new fuel tank and sending unit. We also sent in the starter to be rebuilt. We went through the entire car to make sure that it is safe and road ready for the young owner.
This car was purchased by a young man wanting to be able to cruise safely in an original 50's Chevrolet.
It was nice to work on an original classic for a change.

Can make a spacer from hardwood. No kidding, it works! Get her all tuned up, will be a nice driver. Oh, that stinky carb juice. I spent too many years smelling that stuff. Pine sol is quite effective. King pins on my fargo didnt go so easy.reaming bushings was real finnicky. All the little bits of wear add up to a lot of play in the steering. 00 grease. Common use is in combines. John deere cornhead grease. Snapper riding mowers use that grease in the gearbox. I dont think heavy grease is an issue, unless its winter driven. I used cv joint grease, thats what i had. The adjusment is pretty simple, dont go too tight is all.

That's a honest looking car. Seen that out behind the body shop for a while. Glad it's getting finished up.

If you put the 23 coil springs (53-54) in the hood hinges, you won't need the prop...I'm assuming it has the originally installed 28 coil springs now. By 1961 Chevrolet was calling for the 23 coil springs across the board (49-54).

Canadian Pontiacs of that era also had powerglides instead of Hydramatics

I've always wanted a 49-52 Chev or Pontiac 2 door. I've been looking here in Ontario for some time. The Canadian Pontiacs have different engines (flatheads), front clips and dashboards but otherwise the vehicles are the same. The US Pontiacs have different tail lights. I'd like a Pontiac with a straight 8, but here in the rust belt they are long gone. I recently bought a 50 Plymouth to play with but still would like a car just like this one. Nice and straight car! I'll be in for much of the same work with the Plymouth. The interior was invaded by mice. I subscribed some time ago (thanks Brent) and realize that I'm going to make this place home.

What part of Ontario are you in? We went out there early last spring and brought my very nice 52 Pontiac 2 door.

@@soberingrestorationservices Eastern Ontario - west of Ottawa. I'm a CWM and Strong's Garage fan - so I like the old original stuff. Not much into LS swaps but like fabrication.

I have done those boxes, and after doing quite a few decided they are very "doable" but if there is any chance to just find a good box, then I did that instead as its more feel than a set adjustment. Getting it centered so the shaft had equal turns both ways was my biggest issue. These boxes have some of the sorriest cast steel and wear out very early as the town taxis use those fuel squeezer cars. Also if the worm was bad, I just past them on for new boxes. I for a long time found steering boxes that were more like our late models as in a rag connector for the steering. Those made everyone happy as its so much easier to just remove a box and not the whole column. (I used parts of the old tool) I did use old feeler gages to shime bearing races up and match the play in the box. You have a tough one there guys. Also..... those older model rigs like yours with the flathead were in my estimation, a better rig as those had real oil pumps and insert bearings. I do like those 235 chevy engines very much so. Those cars were past up for the more modern v8s as kids didn't like a six cylinder engine. Power Nation did a turbo on some of these engines and I am totally impressed. Do not quote me but like four to six hundred horse power, and torque off of the map! I just hope I never confused or sound nuts here but when your practically as old as those rigs, you do see a lot of different things
