April, your story brought tears to my eyes. My family became estranged after my mother died too. I have also had cancer so I get an idea of what your journey was like. I hope this recipe brings you joy. I hope the holidays are good for you and trust that I know your mom is looking down on you and loves you.

It might be Canadian but I call what you made a mudpie and the haystacks are the ones with the chow mein noodles and peanut butter.
@thedailydee6 жыл бұрын
See that is exactly how I refer to both cookies, same as you. Yet so many people have told me, no, those aren't mud pies they are haystacks. Haystacks to me are beige (peanut butter, butterscotch chips and chow mien noodles) and haystacks are brown (like mud).

We called it Mississippi mud cookies.
@bluebird4667 Жыл бұрын
adding the cocao to the wet mixture is the time consuming way of making this. To save time and fussing with the bits of coco add and mix the cocao to the dry mixture of cocnut and oats. then mix the two parts (wet and dry) together. So much faster - same result.

Tip just melt chocolate chips. Haystacks are made with fried chow mein noodles. If you used coconut or oatmeal they are bird’s nest.

I just tried making these and it turned into a dry flaky mess... Clearly cooking it for 5 minutes, which two different recipes said, is totally wrong and medium-high heat is too much. I added the vanilla right away instead of after, does this make a difference? I melted my butter beforehand but I don't think that would make much of a difference. I'm not a big fan of coconut so I only added 1/2 C. but I don't think that would make much difference either.
@thedailydee4 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear of your issues. I would perhaps suggest using less oatmeal to make them more moist. Always add the vanilla after you take it off the heat. Vanilla extract is made by soaking vanilla beans in alcohol and then letting it ferment for months. When you add the vanilla in high heat the alcohol in the vanilla burns off and you lose a lot of that vanilla flavour.
@Pheonix13284 жыл бұрын
@@thedailydee I tried making them again and only cooked them for a minute or so and they turned out almost perfect. The other recipes I saw were just completely wrong about the whole five minutes thing.

Wow, aren't you lovely! If you have the attention span of 30 seconds or less you need to stick to short videos instead of getting angry at creators who make videos of more than 20 seconds. Doing so might relieve you of all that pent of anger you have inside. Lashing out at a creator because they just won't give you what you need in 2 seconds is fruitless. I hope you have a wonderful day and manage to get through it without being rude to someone else.

You are right. An extremely slow vdo. Needs to be edited. It is stressful to see her churning n churning to get the butter melted. The easiest thing would have been to melt the butter first b4 putting the other ingredients to mix together. Not everybody has nothing to do but watch someone deliberate
