"Keep some sunshine on your face" It's been almost 20 years since I first saw this (I know, I was late to the party), and I try to live by that every day.

I'm from Peoria, IL and we still hold him as a national treasure in our hearts. He's got a few municipal buildings and a road with a variation of his name in all of them. The fact that he's able to use Mudbone as the old timey voice of reason to rip on himself through improv without missing a beat or mistakes. It cracks me up because if you drive around any working class poor neighborhood you'll actually run into a guy like Mudbone sitting outside the liquor store or inside the barber shop giving out unsolicited advice from over 50+ years in this rat race of life. It's ironic too that no matter how bad the neighborhood is or what's going on Noone and I mean Noone will lay a hand on the old timers out of respect. Even though they can tell some tall tales and always ask for change they'll never get hassled and are always welcomed to any barbecues happening as well. It's really important to show them we care and that they matter even in the last days they have. 😊

It's a shame he didnt expand his Mudbone character. He could tell stories like him and have you rolling! I grew up listening to him, Redd Foxx and George Carlin. Laugh In Peace Gentlemen!

A little part of me died when Mudbone passed. When Mudbone says, "the boy was fucked up", he was referring to RP.

was "mudbone" meant to characterize a political statement or be a metaphor of his life, or the lives of african americans? ;o cuz i kept sensing from all the hollers of the audience that i was missing something vital ;o -- or am i just analyzing it with too much 21st century comedy junk in my head? x_x
@jamespfitz3 жыл бұрын
Everybody in the audience knew a Mudbone. Mudbone is what's known as an archetype.
@jamespfitz3 жыл бұрын
And yes, too much 21st Century. The idea of politics in humor is new as in a 21stC phenomenon. Not everything was political, and life was SO MUCH BETTER. Also, there was humor. Butt-hurt wasn't a term because only assholes would be boldv enough to complain. Then came Jon Stewart. Then Twitter. Then Trump. No more fun of any kind!

@@JoeBlack540 No, it's not. That's why I commented. It's just a place name, not a joke. You misheard it, and thought it was joke. But it's not a joke. It's just Tupelo, Mississippi.
