When I blew out one of the heads on my 2007 Type-S back in 2013, I gave it to them as their first ever J35 engine build project. I was able to spend time in the shop with Chad and Tim and see first-hand how amazing they are at what they do. It cost me about $17k for the build but the end result was amazing. The tuning is no joke. Tim is a master with honda tuning. I'm glad to see them being represented on this channel. They are a good, honest shop. That old guy has been separating young guys from their money for 30+ years. He knows all the right things to say. (“Buy a used R and then spend thousands on it with us.” “The next R might be electric.”) Mark and Jack have to make nice but a) the springs are too harsh to be usable on the street; and b) that $5k exhaust doesn’t really make power but it will turn your freeway commute into a torture chamber. From what I’m seeing on the track is less than impressive performance, and yet the track is the only thing this car is meant for.
@TassieLorenzo3 жыл бұрын
@@johntechwriter You don't think the car is impressive on the track? It seemed very capable to me. Mugen products have never been value for money, but they do spend on the R&D. Copy cats often come along and make cut-priced copies of their parts, so Mugen parts must be somewhat well-engineered... For example, the Mugen DC5 intake I had, had the smooth mould side on the inside of the airbox. While you'd think it's obvious that the smooth side should be on the inside (like a Grand Prix car intake tract for instance), the Gruppe M DC5 intake I had begged to differ -- that one had the smooth side on the outside and the coarse side of the FRP on the inside! [I didn't spend thousands on either though, they were both used.]

The sound track in the beginning makes me feel like I’m playing the early Gran Turismo lol

I remember articles featuring King motorsports back from the sport compact car magazine days. They had a 4cyl cr-v build with intake, cams, header, etc and of course SCC had the comparison dynos vs stock.

That was from 1999. I have that magazine.

no homo... that last bit where he was saying how we should appreciate this new gen type R because it could be the last made me cry a little.

The only thing I would get from this "Mugen" parts, Steering wheel and maybe the lip kit, everything else stock on the Type R looks better from factory

At 69, wild exterior design does not bother me. I already love my FK8. Spring changes sound like a mixed blessing, although getting even more rotation out of this chassis is great. All the other mods seem like a no brainer. At 180 cm and 78 kg no worries fitting in the seats. Although I really love the ones in there now. So how much would it cost to send my '18 FK8 to King and have them Mugenize it? The idea of less weight- and especially less unsprung weight and more useable and consistent power delivery appeals . And you can never have too much carbon fiber or titanium. right? Best news might be the needed cooling improvements. Aero was already excellent. Now if only they could up the fuel tank capacity a bit...

I love how Honda has 2 racing development divisions. Spoon and Mugen. Can't go wrong with any!

Spoon aren't official. :) Whereas, say the Mugen engine factory and the Honda F1 engine factory in the UK are across the road from each other, and are part of the same complex: www.google.com/maps/@52.0268353,-0.7644843,3a,81.9y,43.99h,86.9t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sQU7cBgiazofLkPcXQbmEZQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

As some others have already said, by leaning even heavier into the aggressive design i actually like this more than the standard Type R as far as looks are concerned

Might as well go all in. The front fascia is a nice improvement with the partly blanked out (whited out?) fake vents and the lip (though it would be scraped up in no time). The decals are fine on a car of this sort, and the car looks like what it is.

What boost does this tune have and what fuel was used? Love setups like these! Great video 👏
