A tribute to the Muhammad Ali vs Brian London bout of 1966. Ali knocked him in the third round with an unbelievably fast 12 punch combination.

London, known as the “Blackpool Tower,” was a C-Level mediocre undercard boxer who had been beaten by Cooper three times before he fought Clay. Ingemar Johansson had said London would have struggled to beat his sister. Just another typical bum for extremely overrated media hyped Low-Power Clay/Ali.

London was 6'0" 201 lbs vs Ali's 208 lbs. That's why Skinny Featherfisted Clay moved so fast, he was a glorified cruiserweight.

@@joebidens_touchyhands9477 Huh? During Ali's (then Cassius Clay) rise to prominence beginning in 1961, he fought his share of bums, never-was and has beens, and the media pretty much called it as they saw it, and referred to them as such. The August 1966 fight that you see above with Brian London, was telecast on ABC Sports with Howard Cosell calling the fight at ringside. Although Cosell was a great admirer of Ali and his abilities, he was disparaging in his comments towards London, in effect calling him a bum and a club fighter without necessarily using those exact words.

@@black_David_Frost. you are a moron. i don’t really understand your argument. are you questioning if Ali can take on big heavy weight hitters ? like Sonny Liston, George Foreman, Earnie Shavers, and Henry Cooper? all bigger than Ali and hit way harder. Ali danced on them all and outboxed them. Klitchoko would get destroyed by Ali no case. Lewis and Fury have a good chance and it’s honestly a toss up. but you’re an idiot if you think Ali would definitely lose. Lewis got taken to the distance by a past prime Holyfield, who got taken to the distance by a past prime Foreman. i’d put money on Ali against lewis. Fury would probably be the best to face Ali in my opinion

Doesn’t mean Lewis wasn’t the best of his era. once i have time i’ll make a proper reply. but in my opinion i do believe Fury to be one of the best heavyweights ever so i do give him out of everyone a chance to legitimately defeat Ali. theres one thing i noticed about him, no matter how many punches he landed in a short period of time he wasnt losing strength, it looks like the power coming from the punches are all equal even after doing long combos. we all know that if a boxer throw a heavy with lighting speed punches they will lose stamina and strength for a while. And another thing about him is the way how he dance in the ring and that makes him really hard to get hit. what a truly incredible man you are really the greatest of all time

His punches move with the momentum created from his feet. His balance and timing are adding to his speed and power a lot. He doesn't throw power but his punches land with power because the momentum of the impact is so well transferred from his toes all the way up his body into his hands. Almost all of his punches start at his feet and he uses faints to the set up the shot. It's beautiful.

@qbconnect
@qbconnect 2 жыл бұрын
You gotta have a quick eye to know what you're seeing. The whole combination worked together to get the opponent to drop his hands. The 'taps' you saw were to the right arm that was guarding his face and to the body which causes a fighter to drop his arms to cover the vulnerable midsection. It's impossible to cover your whole upper body and your head at the same time with your arms while standing upright like he was. The hard punches came very fast in between when the guy dropped his hands. And all it took was one good shot to the chin 😴

It's not only the punches, it's how Ali backs off after his man is hurt, like he is standing back to admire his work (he did it when he knocked out Foreman too). Other boxers (Marciano and Tyson for instsnce) kept punching their opponents on their way down, which was chickenshit sportsmsnship. When Foreman starts falling, Ali is braced to throw another blow, but pulls off after seeing Foreman is not a threat. As bad a dude as Duran was in the ring, he didn't do it either. @Daft Donkeys I disagree……Ali fought some monsters who outsized him and whooped them all…..Ron Lyle, George Foreman, Earnie Shavers, Sonny Liston, etc….those men rank top of anybody’s list of hardest hitting heavyweights, yet Ali defeated them (Lyle and Foreman were physically taller/bigger than Ali). I am not sure if Ali was the greatest, but his sturdy chin coupled with his strong will to never stay down made him the real deal.

Miscounted...that was about 15! Ali had TREMENDOUS handspeed...this guy is a damn HEAVYWEIGHT and had quick hands and light on his feet. And then would talk shit shit to you!!!

Mike Tyson? NO! Iron Mike (1985-1989) would certainly get to Ali and inflict punishment, as Joe Frazier did to Ali in their 3 wars. Tyson was heavier and punched harder than Smokin' Joe, at least the Mike Tyson for the period I mentioned.
@michaelbassey1993
@michaelbassey1993 2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesanthony5681 Joe Frazier didn’t fight a prime Ali (and yet he lost 2 of their trilogy fights)….I watched a prime Tyson fight an older guy who mimicked Ali’s style (James quick Tillis)…Tyson couldn’t KO the man (won via UD)…..A prime Ali had the speed of a welterweight and an elusiveness never seen till date in heavyweight…I say he boxes any version of Tyson to a UD or late stoppage.
@jamesanthony5681
@jamesanthony5681 2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelbassey1993 I've said this elsewhere, but if Tyson at his best (1988?) had faced Ali at his best (1966? 1967?), I believe Ali would have won a split decision. The deciding factors would have been Ali's ability to absorb punishment and his iron will & determination, his greatest assets, IMO. Yes, Ali had hand and foot speed, but the young Tyson (1985-89) had incredible speed himself; knockout power in either hand; and was a terrific body puncher with an excellent defense. I think Iron Mike was a heavier Joe Frazier who punched harder than Smokin' Joe. Ali lost his prime due to the 3 1/2 year layoff. After 1989, Mike Tyson was not the same fighter for various reasons. The Muhammad Ali that fought Joe Frazier in 1971 was still damn good, despite losing his best years. The Tillis fight was interesting. Tyson won the fight (UD) and knocked him down in the 4th round, but be mindful, Tyson was only 19 at the time. Where was Ali at 19? When Iron Mike fought Tillis, he (Tyson) was still learning and serving his apprenticeship by fighting different fighters with different styles. I believe if Tyson had fought him again, then he would have knocked him out.
@michaelbassey1993
@michaelbassey1993 2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesanthony5681 Agreed, you’ve made interesting points…..It’s just Tyson (at any stage in his career) seemed to struggle against slick boxers who could move (Tony Tucker, even Bonecrusher Smith who was past his prime when they fought)….additionally, Tyson never defeated a PRIME hall-of-famer. He lost to the only two he faced (Lennox and Holyfield)….A careful inspection will reveal Tyson’s resume is not as impressive as we may think…..so I’m not sure about him winning a super-slick, tough-chinned, very courageous dude like a prime Ali.
