My client is Lebanese and made me this for lunch!! Love how nearly every culture has a rendition of legumes and rice ( vegetarian)

Hey! My mom is Lebanese and this was a staple growing up. She always made a big pot and brought it to picnics lol. I thought it was so boring then but I absolutely love it now. Her recipe is different than yours but nonetheless I’m sure it’s delicious. Thanks for sharing!!! 💕

It's amazing how similar it is to what we make in India. You have made the most common Indian staple food which we call dal (lentil) rice. And the brown lentil is what we call masoor dal which cooks quickly and so i make this with a bit of a variation when I am in a hurry to cook and have no time to cut and cook vegetables and Indian bread (roti or chapati)

We used to eat this when I grew up. The traditional way is adding the rice to the lentils when they are almost done, but this might be easier. And still delicious. If I remember well, the onions we put on top were crispy. I loved it and still do. Easy, delicious and healthy ❤

Looks great. Will give it a try. I tend to caramelise my onions without sugar (find with sugar it is way too sweet for me) . They will take longer to caramelise. I also don’t use any salt in my cooking, only herbs and spices

The lentil cooked water has the protein. Don’t throw it. South of India they make lentil and rice with different spices in one pot. It is called Pongal. They also make version with vegetables called Kichidi. Also in one pot

@williamfowles29403 ай бұрын
Love that you're using metric measurements in your recipes for most of the ingredients. This cups nonsense confuses me. When you say 3 cups of water, that's ,750 ml, right (for the 100g of rice)?
@kitt74773 ай бұрын
Soak the brown lentils for 8 hrs then strain the water & add it to your raw rice with a very small peeled & finely chopped eggplant, measured water, add your caramelized, & spiced onions & salt & cook all together.

I am from the Middle East, we just add salt, no spices. Try kefir with chopped cucumber, salt and dried mint with it.

Add salt to lentils only after they have soften, otherwise the lentils will take longer to soften.
@georgebaddour3 ай бұрын
Great but Mujadarah is not made in all the countries in the Middle East. It is very popular dish in Palestine, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. Please note that Basmati rice is not suitable for this dish. Besides, The right way to pronounce Humus is "Hummos", an Arabic word that means Garbanzo Beans.
@tgeliot3 ай бұрын
What makes basmati rice wrong for this?
@georgebaddour3 ай бұрын
@@tgeliot Long grain rice is more suitable because Basmati rice has a strong taste that will cover the taste of the lentil with onions and olive oil.
@tgeliot2 ай бұрын
@georgebaddour Thanks. I do like the flavor of basmati, but I can see (taste?) how it could interfere with other flavors.
