I have 4 children with my black husband (I'm white)..never not once did our kids came home crying being bullied over their race..they are now 40, 38, 33 and 31..they weren't raised black or white..they were just raised..we now have 11 grandchildren in every flavor..saddens me people think each race will turn their backs on them.This has just never happened..my kids don't walk around with a mark on them..they are unique and beautiful. I'm American, and I'm here to tell you that Americans use race and ethnicity interchangeably bc of racism in American history. If you weren't white or pale Asian, you were considered black. No one cared about ethnicity. Everyone was clumped together as black regardless if you were or weren't. So when the Civil Rights movement happened, we adopted the term "African-American" and/or "Black American" (eventually just "black") bc that was the best way to identify and distinguish ourselves at the time. All black people regardless of nationality needed a united name to show unity. And African- American lineage documentation was destroyed during slavery so many of us do not know where we came from. Black is a title we still use and use interchangeably bc many of us are still not knowledgeable about it till this day, and even if we are, technically we don't know our own lineage and the PC term "African-American" for every black person born out of generational slavery can be wrong (what if your lineage is from an island or another country and you just don't know). And we still haven't even talked about the fact that there are Africans who immigrated to American with the same title as "African-American". Yes, for Americans, it is sad and confusing. Please feel free to give any feedback if my little history lesson isn't accurate. I'm always down to learn more :)

what the chinese man said is very true, they tend to date within there own race. my grandpa is chinese and he's the first person in his family to date outside of his race. he married my East Indian grandma and my chindian mom married my black dad. and now all 8 of my siblings are dating hispanics, creoles(black), Caucasian and i'm dating a chinese guy. this race mixing thing all started with my chinese grandpa thou. my dad's side of the family is like 85% black and i'd say 15% hispanic. and i feel like my dad went through hell when he started dating my mom because his family they only dated black people so seeing my mom, my grandparents and us around was a new experience for them, and now my dad isn't talking to his family anymore. we have no contact with them even thou we all live like an hour or 2 away from each other.

But I think it is more of an American term, a label that’s been reclaimed because they aren’t aware of their lineage (the country they are from etc) due to enslavement and not keeping records.
