- About Dr. Mary Claire Haver and The Galveston Diet -
Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a passionate women’s health advocate who believes women in midlife deserve to live their best life. She cuts through fat-shaming and fads, so women are empowered with the science behind anti-inflammation nutrition.
Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a wife, mom, physician, and entrepreneur who has devoted her adult life to women’s health. As a Board-Certified OBGYN in the Houston area, Dr. Haver has delivered thousands of babies, completed thousands of well-woman exams, counseled patients, taught residents, and did everything an academic professor and OBGYN could do.
As her patient population aged, Dr. Haver was overwhelmed with the number of complaints and concerns her patients had with weight gain while going through menopause. For years, she told her patients to eat less and exercise more. It wasn't until she experienced the changes of menopause and mid-life weight gain that she realized this advice doesn't work and ultimately led to her creating and developing a new program, The Galveston Diet.
The Galveston Diet is the first and only nutrition program created by a Female OBGYN, designed for women in menopause. The Galveston Diet helps women reach their health and wellness goals through an anti-inflammatory approach to nutrition. Dr. Haver believes in food's power to combat inflammation and highly recommends the unlimited benefits of intermittent fasting. As part of her ongoing research, she became certified in Culinary Medicine in 2019, specializing in medical nutrition.

YES, “all of a sudden”….the back/right hip and buttock/ and right calf and ankle pains. I hadn’t done anything to warrant the quickness of these pains- no injuries or active activities. Funny, I kind of felt like a BIG drop in my overall strength and stamina when it happened. Must have been the drops in my hormones?

42 and 5-6 months ago I started having consistent soreness in one shoulder joint and in the opposite elbow. I thought I slept on them wrong. My mom says “oh it’s probably early onset arthritis, enjoy” I wish that wasn’t our advice in 2023. Not one female in my entire family has ever spoken the word perimenopause to me, let alone ever have a conversation about it. You are literally my only advice beside google. I am so glad that you are doing these videos and making the information available! I am 59 years now, have been using estradiol cream for the last 5 years, but found it to be messy, dosing inaccurate. Then I found out that the cream takes care of only the vaginal problems of menopause. I talked with my provider, who knew about my other symptoms of menopause and that oral estrogen or patches will take care of but did not offer it to me! After seeing your videos I asked to be placed on oral meds so that I can get a true, measured dose of estrogen and progesterone, and noticed that my hip pain, which was getting worse, (among other symptoms) is now getting much better. Before starting the oral hormones I was convinced I would need a hip replacement and had already made appointments for steroid injections to start. I am mortified that we women are being waaaay underserved in this capacity, and am hoping that everyone I tell will also request hormone replacement for themselves. Thanks so much, I subscribed to your channel and will tell others about it ❤❤❤❤❤❤

@@karenwright5168a couple of uninformed healthcare providers “kicked me off” estrogen last spring with some version of “women over 60 shouldn’t be on hormones.” The effects were devastating to my health and well being. Over the last three months I would go to bed at night and say to myself “Please. I just don’t want to wake up tomorrow and do this again.” Among other symptoms, I had excruciating pain around my joints, in my tendons, in my feet from the waste down. Because I had significant lateral hip pain in perimenopause, I felt certain my pain was estrogen-related. I had to fight to get back on HRT, but after two and a half weeks back on transdermal estrogen, I feel better. I can finally SLEEP. I’m optimistic that the musculoskeletal pain will improve with time, but that’s a symptom I believe will take longer to resolve and require additional intervention on my part. Unless you have contraindications for HRT, it seems like you should get back on it. There are additional benefits for HRT on top of alleviating the suffering of musculoskeletal pain.

I’ve been an athlete my entire life. In my late 40’s - the same symptoms and extremely severe hot/freezing cold flashes day/night every 15 minutes. Tried everything, nothing worked. My gynecologist saved my life by prescribing hormonal patch. I am so happy to have my normal - happy life back! 🌻🦋

I actually had all of the above but I have to say it was pretty mild I stayed super busy lots of exercise very hydrated and took lots of vitamins… The hot flashes were pretty mild and only lasted about a second I actually started to count them down I’ve never had to put my head in a refrigerator like I’ve seen my friends do but my main complaint was my male GYN he had zero sympathy everything was in my head and there was nothing he could do about it to make my symptoms less or manageable. I only say this because he made me feel like I was doing something wrong that was causing my symptoms and I really don’t wish that on any other woman going through this and thankfully she has retired I’m so glad I found your site because it is open my eyes and actually giving me a lot of relief after the fact but at least I feel more in control thank you again

I have Fibromyalgia and muscelatrofy, and I'm in my pre-menopause I'm 43 and have had my menstruation for the first time when I was only 8 years young. I thought I was dying...logical, my mom did not think I would be so early with that. But I have severe pain. I take Oxycodone, Voltaren 100mg ( anti-inflammatory), and Rivotril ( muscle relaxation ), and have just come out of a marriage of 15 years with a Narcissistic pig. I have a beautiful daughter of 15 years and further no one. I'm very lonely about everything that is going on in my body as well as mentally. I had heart problems and have just done tests and walked as well as I can with a little device that records your heartbeat. I live already a little bit more than a year alone and my daughter is here every week, I find it very good that she is here in the week and only in the weekends with her dad, like that he can not try to get in her head like he did with me, but the father even does not have to pay for schoolbooks, clothes,...nothing. he played the victim and I'm standing alone for everything. She is been operated on a double leg fracture and needs to learn to walk again. On the weekends she goes to her dad because I don't want to be a bad mom and make that she doesn't see her dad. After all, he doesn't even pay for anything that concerns our daughter. I have to pay for it all. While he is working and has his own house. I need to rent an apartment next to the train rails and station. Day and night the bell of safety bars is going next to my window from the station and the trains. I had to get away from my ex a year ago, a little longer than a year ago and the Judge has decided I could go away with my daughter because there it was too dangerous. I'm sorry I tell this all here but all comes at once now and finally, I found woman to share my problems with. About the natural beauty as we can say as well as the man that thinks that they are the strong ones. Again my excuses for the whole story that I write here down. I was scrolling and found this fantastic doctor, what I remarqué is that my skin has changed of color on certain places while I'm having a soft allergic reaction to the sun and use for more than 30 years an SPF 50. I have a brown spot on my face. I never used makeup in my life. And I think it could come from the hormones that are changing in my body. I use Eucerin and all sorts of other crèmes and I have the same illness that my mom had...she could not go on with the idea that we get older. Wrinkles and everything what is a woman going true. For that and other troubles she took her own life in 2017. That is why I do this for the first time ,im very sorry for people who will find this stupid or have thoughts about it,I just have no one and sometimes it's becoming too much like now and this is the first time I wrote this down. I hope someone can help me with the problems of the menopause and my pains that I have from my 21 year but now it starts to become harder for me and I would like to find another way if possibly. Greetings, S.

Now I wonder if it can trigger Rheumatoid Arthritis. I was 44 When I was diagnosed with particularly aggressive RA and for the last 17 years it has literally eaten me alive. They say they don't know the cause of RA and have no cure, only treatment that may or may NOT work. Didn't work for me, obviously. My life is one of sheer frustration, as one can imagine. Had frozen shoulder at 49, sacroiliac dysfunction at 53 and they were painful, PT was great but my husband thought I was pretending to get attention because he was the one who was sick so how dare I get treated I should just deal with it! The only thing the doctor could do for me was give me a handicap tag for my car so I didn’t have to walk as far, that really pissed him off but it took ten minutes off the painful walk to my car after sitting all day working! Then at 60 it was the feet and elbows. So much fun!

If you google frozen shoulder It is described as one of the most painful joint issues. It’s not only an ache but shooting nerve pain like being electrocuted. This happens when you move your arm accidentally while trying activities of daily living or when sleeping and moving your arm accidentally. I tried to sleep on my hand so my arm wouldn’t move. I experienced frozen shoulder in both arms one after the other ( age 51)It was living hell With diagnosis the Dr gave me 30 Tylenol 3 with codeine. I threw them out though as I knew I would have been addicted after a year of this pain. I fought through the intense electrical pain shooting down my arm with physio and curcumin because I burnt my stomach out after using Advil . Then the other arm started. I immediately got a cortisone shot which shortened the inflammation, still took curcumin and still had physio with dry needling until it was more painful than the frozen shoulder. I suspected frozen shoulder had something to do with hormones because this affects women more than men and the age it started. Unfortunately this was 10 years ago, nobody was talking about menopause Once started on hrt years later, all my hip pain went away.

I developed plantar fasciitis in both feet, lower back ache, intercostal muscle pain and tennis elbow in both elbows... no joke as a violinist, or as anyone really!! Solutions: daily stretching and exercising (more than previously for teaching and practice), pressure bands for the elbows that I wear for 2 hours a day, Glucosamine and Chondroitin Complex supplements.
