Great video! Where did you get the EMG data for this video concerning the golf swing? Thank you and keep up the good work!

Question for you: I'm squeezing in a couple of brief sets at my gym at work which is ill equipped. Do you think regular squats and bench press are still useful? Thanks for the video!
@ScienceBasedFitness
@ScienceBasedFitness 8 ай бұрын
100%. Those compound movments, like the squat and bench press are great for overall strength. They also have a significant amount of synergist muscle recruitment. Meaning the smaller aiding muscles. Even some basic movments should help and can be effective. Hope that can help.

I started doing some of these exercises with my trainer and doing so helped my distance, but the problem is that I have no arch in my feet, so what could I do to improve my balance?
@ScienceBasedFitness
@ScienceBasedFitness 8 ай бұрын
Balance can be trained multiple ways. 1, you can train unilaterally meaning one side at a time. something like a single-legged squat (TRX can assist), single-legged hip thrust, step-ups, etc. 2. Carries- a suitcase carry is a great core stabilizing movement. I would look into some of these. 3. rotation or anti-rotational with holds. Cable rotations and Palof press are great for core strengthening and stabilizing. 4. training on less stable surfaces. going from hard flooring to standing on a mat will be more challenging, and recruit more stableizers for control. You can work your way up to a bocce ball. I hope that was useful, and it's great to hear you're already working with a trainer. LMK if you have any more questions about this.

@@ScienceBasedFitness is it realistic to assume the more your upper body bulks up, that you should alter your swing speed?
@ScienceBasedFitness
@ScienceBasedFitness 8 ай бұрын
Think of this. To hit a ball farther, you need more force. Force is mass x acceleration. If you increase mass, you can increase force. Unless your mass starts to slow you down. There is a happy medium. Things are never just that simple, though. If you train for speed, you can improve your speed and explosiveness without greatly affecting your size. This can alter the acceleration side of that formula. Training Our fast twitch muscle fiber can improve recruitment ability, and this can impact distance. The best way to increase distance I believe is to practice faster swings.
@corn1078
@corn1078 8 ай бұрын
@@ScienceBasedFitness so, if im building bigger shoulders and traps that adds more force but in a way less explosiveness unless I allow my lower busy to do that

lats have the most contribution in creating the swingspeed how are they not on the list ?
@ScienceBasedFitness
@ScienceBasedFitness Жыл бұрын
I had that exact same thought when I started researching this. I have like 2 or 3 thoughts on why this might be. 1, the lats are so big that the % of maximum voluntary contraction isn't very high. But that might not be right bc that would mean you could increase more fiber for more power. 2, the lats primarily work in the sagittal plane. Where the golf swing functions more in the frontal and transverse plane. So I think it's probably less useful than we think

Weight lifting and golf do not mix well together. I play far better golf when I avoid all weight lifting. Weight lifting makes me too slow and stiff in my golf swing I hit all my irons and drivers with less distance. Tiger Woods also played terrible when he started lifting weights.
@ScienceBasedFitness
@ScienceBasedFitness Жыл бұрын
I appreciate your comment. Although I think there is some misunderstanding here. All the tour players do some level of weight lifting because that's what it takes at that next level. I have 3 points to all of this. 1, The science of weight lifting has come a long way, and training fast twitch muscle fiber and explosive movements make athletes faster. That's not my option, that's fact. 2. Traditional body building style of weight lifting for the purpose of growing the muscle to be as big as possible could negatively affect the golf swing, but thats not the type of training golfers do. 3. This is why I make this content. I use my degree in exercise science and my Titleist certification to help people understand better ways to apply fitness and golf. I recommend checking out my video on driving the ball 300 yards. I explain a few exercises that can help and might give more clarity.

Well I used to go to the driving range before I started going to the gym and went back after not touching a golf club for like 2 years and my driver was going about 80 yards further and I'm still hitting the ball very gently compared to how I used to so I can get used to technique again to be fair I was also like 5 foot 8 a couple years back and now I'm 6 foot so maybe that's also a reason why I'm hitting it better

@@AlphaAbyss_ I'm honestly constantly driving my ball 300 yards with no weight lifting. How far were you driving the ball before? Everytime I begin lifting weights the way I love to my swing speed decreases and out the door goes my smooth form/ tempo. Does Any of the big names in golf look like they worry about being jacked with muscle ? Same with mma too much muscle just slows you down. Speed is what professional athletes focus on.
@AlphaAbyss_
@AlphaAbyss_ Жыл бұрын
@@David.lovesU yeah all MMA fighters to weight lifting some of them just do less ordinary exercises that are more task specific like plyo metrics but they all lift weight to improve speed and power like before the gym I could barely drive the ball 150 including roll now I carry over 200 and it will roll ABIT from there so I'm not sure how much I hit since at my driving range there is a back fence soon after the 200 yard mark but it's far further than before and that's while I'm taking a half swing and not really prioritising club head speed since my technique is still quite of and my dad who barley ever plays golf who is a absolute monster in the gym constantly hit his drive over the huge back fence of the range and I have never seen anyone else there do that even very low handicappers
