3 things hurt that 454. Induction, low compression and the 400th. Well, maybe 4 things if you add in the exhaust. All relatively easy fixes. You've still got a 454.

I think they dynoed the stock 350 in second gear and then dynoed the 383 in third. If you look at the bottom of the dyno sheet you can see the difference in max speed. Dynoing in a higher gear can make it seem like theres more power when in reality it has something to due with the ratio of that gear and load on the engine/dyno. So it just makes the 383 swap look more amazing than it really is.

*I can't believe you're replacing a 350 with only 165,000 miles on it! that truck aint hurt. they aren't even ready for major service until they get up around the 200,000 mile mark. and that intake on the suburban motor would be clean enough to eat off of if they only used Seafoam to keep the intake running clean. 1 full can in the gas with every 3rd tank and twice a year running a can through the power brake booster vacuum line and letting it blow out all of the carbon and varnish and you wouldn't even need to wipe off the internals of that motor. that's what i use along with Mobil 1 engine oil and synthetic transmission fluid and i've never had a problem out of Any of my vehicles all 3 of my Escalades run like a top and i even use Mobil 1 for turbo diesels in my 06 dodge mega cab 2500 as well as seafoam in it for fuel system treatment and keeping the injectors and intake clean on it as well and so far they all still look brandnew inside when i run the bore scope through them* Could you guys PLEASE do an episode on the importance of using the correct coolant in vehicles also? i am tired of arguing with people about why it's important to use Dexcool in your GM motor when you change everything out for the seasons. everyone swears that it doesn't matter coolant is coolant and it's ABSOLUTELY NOT! i've experienced the hazzards of using the wrong stuff first hand as the green stuff in my 99 tahoe actually ate the intake gasket seals in a little over 3 months causing an expensive and time sucking replacement of the intake gaskets. i've had that truck for 14 years now running Dexcool and never had another issue with it. so proper coolant DOES make a difference!

To be fair, bolts/studs tend to shear off if you *don't* use an impact on exhaust. You can do it with hand tools, but it takes hours on a 20+ year old vehicle. My '85 F250 is rust free on the frame and body, but the exhaust took about sixteen hours to move out of the way for some long tubes.

Don't know why you went with stock front brakes. A PowerStop kit costs less than OEM brakes and gets you far superior brakes, calipers, and pads including slotted and drilled rotors. I put a set on my 99 Suburban and I'll never go back to OEM style brakes. I've also done an HT383E swap on my truck and I can't recommend it enough. Awesome swap. Note. If you have a CSFI model year truck, for the love of God as recommended in the video, replace/upgrade the fuel spider while you're doing the swap! The original sucks and will fail eventually. The upgrade GM fuel spider is vastly superior and more reliable and gets you both power and economy improvements! I added a Hypertech high energy programmer, JB shorty headers, and Magnaflow header back exhaust system with new high flow cats and muffler. I love this combo!
@EGGINFOOLS
@EGGINFOOLS 5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't think the spider injectors would supply enough fuel for a 383 with those mods. It would have been close in cost to do the 350 ramjet mpfi swap than to buy the new spider. I ran out of fuel on my 4.3 spider injection setup with a cam and headers. Once I port and polished the headers and supercharged it I went to the mpfi swap.

@@EGGINFOOLS unfortunately your solution isn't street legal in a ton of jurisdictions. Doesn't work with the factory harness or computer, so what's that cost to sort out? Heck, custom harnesses _start_ at a few hundred bucks. New engine computer? Kiss ABS goodbye and say hello to a third party trans controller. And get some black tape for that MIL light. Meanwhile the HT383E guy is driving his truck. Everything works perfectly as factory. No legal hassles. Life is good. He can drive his truck across the country without worrying some hack or kludge he made to get it running will fail on him.

Question, if I may. Who makes a good rebuild kit for a complete rebuild of a 700/R4 for a 91 Silverado longbed. Mine just gave up the ghost @300,000 miles...slipped a little at first...till it died with the converter. Got a used one for now, but want to rebuild dead one to put back in for my own piece of mind. Love the trucks guys, but I`m a Bowtie guy. Amazing what can be done IF you have the budget.

454SS looking good, even id not a fan of the wheels. Replacing a motor with 165k seems crazy, doesnt seem like that many miles for an old V8.

Why in the heck would you replace a whole wire harness for one broke plug? Just cut off old one and solder heat wrap new one on and done, 5 min job.
