Actually my reaction to *some* of the shots of Norn and Aisha was that they look overly aged up. To some degree it's a matter of teens aging fast but I honestly just think the animators slightly missed their mark on them. Rudy looks as he's supposed to at this point.

I always read Rudeus voice in my head, with his Anime voice. So I don't believe he needs a deeper voice. I just hope the character designs will be more consistent this cour. Last cour, each episode past episode 5 had a different style, and it was very noticeable. I hope they have more consistency.

I’m happy about the new director because it kinda seemed like the one they got for Cour 1 may not have developed the skills or connections yet to consistently control the quality of the animation. Faces were somewhat off model a lot, especially I noticed in in 3 quarter angles, among other things that just seemed, less than polished. It went from a great looking anime to just a good looking anime in cour 1, and I’m hoping they can edge the needle back toward great if someone more experienced is at the helm.

I didn’t think part 1 of season 2 was that bad. It did feel a bit different from the first season stylistically, but now I know it had a different director working on it, so that makes senses. What I didn’t like about part 1 was how it seemed to gloss over Rudy’s depression. I know the books get pretty dark, and maybe having an entire season about a depressed protagonist with ED is a hard sell to the casual audience, but that’s why I personally love the series. I’ve never seen an isekai character go through what Rudy has, and it’s fantastic to see the character grow and learn.

"gloss over Rudy’s depression" Just because you have depression, it doesn't mean you're moping, gloomy, or bedridden all the time. So Rudeus being functional and apparently in good spirits IMO is quite realistic, since he'd learned to cope with his condition. It's the moments one dwells on the subjects about one's condition when one becomes gloomy. But going forward I'd like to see is the same as what Sylphy has noticed: that he's gotten more confident and comfortable with himself after he gets married.

Pay isn't really the issue here. Especially in Japan, favors and social connections go a long way depending on the industry. The director is on good terms with a lot of people. He also has a lot of connections in idolmaster which was why he left. When he left a lot of staff followed him because animators like to side with friends if they have the option to.

I think this anime made me more mad than any other series, not the story itself, I absolutely love the story. No it was the comments section and all the people complaining about Rudy, calling him a “pea doh”, and people calling Paul the worst father ever. I’ve no idea why people got so outraged about Rudy in the start of the story, his behaviour in these scenes is so mild. Oh my God it made me so angry, I had to just stop reading the comments section. And yesterday I seen some people saying the same thing on a Seven Seas post about the new novel.

I'm still confused about the hate cour 1 got. There was a slight dip in quality of the animation for sure but nothing major and it was still better than like 90% of what aired that season. I'm only on volume 4 of the LN and volume 17 of the manga so maybe the issues lies with the adaptation of the source material but, I thought overall it was a fantastic arc. Really looking forward to cour 2 and hopefully things keep going smoothly with the production

Not gonna happen with voice acting change. Japan takes voice acting VERY seriously, and once a voice actor is choosen for a character, its almost a lifelong contract so they won't change it no matter how much the character changed (only irl circumstances). Take goku and naruto for example. But that's also the reason why JP voice acting always consistently high quality, the choosen actor will work very hard maintaining the image of the character as well. You won't feel any shift in the voice unless it is done intentionally. I'd say we should believe the VA to able to change her voice alongside Rudeus growing up.
