I have had stomach problems for years, most days I am in pain. But I love proper English food. Since watching this channel, I have enjoyed cooking from scratch…lots of recipes from this man. I have never been a bad cook, I seem to be good at adding herbs and liquids to add extra tastes to dishes. This man is brilliant, to me he is a top chef. He shows you can cook the food you enjoy, you don’t have to eat ready meals as his recipes are easy to follow and take hours to prepare and cook. Also, my stomach seems to be a lot better than it has for years, no more ready meals for me unless it is a good quality pie though Rik shows you how to make and deliciously so too. So thank you, 🙏🏻 I never watch the Ramsey’s and co when everything I like to eat and prepare with minimal fuss is here

This is such an amazing comment!!! I thank you and this is not even my channel. 😻❤😻 This is the first video I've watched on his channel now, cause I've been looking for a good recipe for mushy peas since I had it in Britain (Both of my cousins have lived there, for more than 20 years now... wow LoL) So your comment really helped me with deciding which recipe to use + wanting to check out his other recipes as well. I love British food very much. Is there anything here that you recommend specifically that I should check out? There are still many things that I obviously don't even know yet to even search for them. I would greatly appreciate it since I too have stomach problems :) 😋 I agree that British food for some reason is easier on the stomach. I don't know why that is. 🤔 Also, I want to recommend Asian Kitchens (Japanese, Chinese, and Korean) to you :) I'm recommending these Asian Kitchens because as I've said, I have stomach issues as well and the Asian Kitchen uses very balanced meals with fresh and healthy ingredients, that's also EXTREMELY YUMMY

I ordered 6 bags of Batchelors brand. I am in the US and they are $6.50 a bag on amazon. I think they are fantastic. I got hooked on them. Due to them being so expensive I bought Rani green whole dried peas. Got 4lbs for $15 on Amazon. I just got them today and got them soaking overnight with this way of doing it. They are not split but whole. Is it the baking soda that gives the flavor? Guess I will find out tomorrow. Thanks for the video.

Garden peas? You jest surely? I too put a touch of sugar in the peas and a splash of vinegar, never thought of mushy split peas mind. Recall my grandparents with a box of marrowfat and a tablet they put in a little mesh bag. And what a simple wonderful dish mushies are, I like the leftovers on toast occasionally instead of baked beans. Throw a few ham hocks in that pan manna from heaven .

I used dried split peas but the peas are disintegrating after 10 minutes on simmer. Wonder what is going on. Might have to have pea soup this time around. I love real mushy peas!
@BackyardChef Жыл бұрын
Did you have the split peas soaking for a long time? When disintegrating is the water being absored and going down? Are the peas actually going soft when disintegrating? If the water is not being absorbed and the peas are going soft - ladel some water out. If the peas are soft not a problem get the water out and mush the peas. Remeber these are split peas not Marrowfat peas - the split peas should work like my split peas in this video. Let me know how you get on. Best, Rik

@@BackyardChef they soaked overnight. It turned soupy but I just cooked them down and they turned out very good and tasty but much smoother than traditional mushy peas. Your flavour profile with the mint (I used Ballymaloe) and a touch of sugar with the salt was great. I'm going to order marrowfat peas and try it again. Cancel Reply
