You Will Know Our Names from Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition: here's my reaction & analysis to this incredible piece of music, from the perspective of a Music Producer.
I think this was the first time I ever listened to this song, and holy s**t: am I the only one noticing all these Persona, Xenoblade 2 and FF parallels?
In any case, thank you guys for recommending it for my Music Producer Reacts series!

Incidentally, this was one of the innovations that Mozart brought into the opera world. Most operas before him had full orchestras, but the music had a very segregated approach; first the horn section might play, then it was the woodwind's turn, then the strings, etc. Mozart was really the first composer to truly form the whole orchestra into a cohesive sound, which would be elevated even higher by the singers on stage. I like to say that he used orchestras the way that American Indians used a Buffalo.

When you encounter one, odds are you’ll be getting your ass beat. But if you manage to stay alive, you realize that you have a chance, and around when you realize that, the music becomes more triumphant.

I essentially stopped whatever I was doing the instant I saw this notification (because surprise: I love Xenoblade music way too much) and I was not disappointed. Although, I did have to go through the duality of being slightly annoyed that the song stops every few seconds, forcing me to adjust the song playing along in my head, but on the other hand those stops made way for the insight of the analysis, which is what I came here for after all. But yeah, I very much appreciate the analysis. I especially love that you don't just mention or explain things but also give examples by playing that part yourself or showing it in that one programm, which helps me a lot to understand some things as I am not familiar with the concepts, or music theory in general. Also, because you mentioned it: I very much recommend Xenoblade Chronicles, especially the Switch remaster, which is just way more convenient and pretty. It's obviously not a perfect game but it has a certain elegance in my opinion and is still one of the games that impresses me on many levels regulalry (a huge part of that is the fantastic music, obviously). And if you ever want to analyze or just listen to more of the OSTs, I'd recommend Engage the Enemy as just an overall killer song, Colony 9, which is a peaceful and incredibly underrated gem and Mechanical Rhythm, if you want something more metal (it's become possibly my favorite XC OST thanks to the remastered version). I don't know if it would be too much work or anything, but I think it would be really interesting to maybe compare the two versions (the original and the remastered one) of a song, as quite a lot was changed sometimes and I would love to hear your opinions on that. Anyway, I have a bad habit of usually not commenting and if I do it's usually a long mess of a wall of text, neither of which is ideal, so I'm sorry for this long comment that I'm too lazy to proof read.

Yes yesss. Become consumed by Xenoblade Music. Tempered by it! Xenoblade 1 is composed mainly by ACE+ and Yoko Shimomura Xenoblade 2 mainly by ACE and Yasunori Mitsuda (though Mitsuda also did some for 1 and Manami Kiyota is also a signature of both to me now as well) I'd love for a potential 3rd Xenoblade mainline game to follow the pattern and have ACE work with another well known SE composer on the OST. Like Keiichi Okabe or Nobuo Uematsu And their respective companies. I'd love to see more Xenoblade reactions from you, my fave song being Tragic Decision.

Don't forget Kenji Hiramatsu, he was previously a collab composer with ACE in XC1, but in XC2 he had bigger role in composing a lot of tracks by his own seperately from ACE. he did most of the battle themes, cutscene themes, and a few town and area themes. he also did the new battle themes for XCDE's Future Connected which were amazing.

Mitsuda composed the ending song of Xenoblade 1 and that was it, so him coming back for 2 and being the lead composer is a pretty big jump, and it also made his style more prevalent in Xenoblade 2 compared to 1. Though ACE is still the main hype music composers for both games.

@@dinglberry3320 Yeah. I forgot to talk about Kenji Hiramatsu. He was part of ACE+ in Xenoblade 1 (hence the +) and worked separately in 2 (hence why the + is missing from ACE in the credits for Xenoblade 2) it is an interesting situation they have going with ACE haha. I feel that despite the big names like Yoko Shimomura and Yasunori Mitsuda involved with the Xenoblade Games. The most notable and the voice of the games is ACE/+ they're like the staple of the series. Which is why I say if a third game comes out I hope it's ACE/+ again with like another big name helping as YS and YM did. Heck imagine if they got Masayoshi Soken to help out? That'd be wild (though personally still leaning more towards wanting Keiichi Okabe Myself) I didn't even talk about Xenoblade X brcause. Well it is technically a separate spin off series at the moment, and ACE wasn't involved there. Instead they go Hiroyuki Sawano to handle most if not all of the sound track. Which is cool. His music is like big hype anime music, and I love it as well, it is just a different situation from the numbered Xeno Games. Big Attack On Titan, Kill La Kill, Gundam Unicorn, etc etc music haha.

I think Mitsuda's most underappreciated track is "Before the Angel" from Bomberman 64: The Second Attack. It has this big feeling of God creating the universe and of everything coming to a head at the final battle of supreme destiny, to decide whether the cosmos should be wiped clean to start fresh or if things are okay continuing as they are. That track and the boss it heralded singlehandedly kickstarted my ongoing contemplation of the nature of the absolute and where it stands in respect to the sources from whence I ought to accrue knowledge. That protocol has gone unabated for over 2 decades now and continues to direct my processes of self-expression.

@@Dharengo the opening vocals are built from the normal battle theme, 'Bells of Battle,' followed by a fanfare take from the opening of 'Wicked Flight.' This arrangement repeats, and is followed by a guitar shred taken from 'Sings of the Enemy Invasion.' This all repeats, before moving to 'The Land of Light and Dark' and 'Ship Sailing through the Heavens,' the overworked themes for walking and Grandship. Next is a snip of 'Visitor,' the asterisk boss encounter theme, that leads into a segment of the non asterisk boss theme, 'Fighting to the End.' Then the four hero's themes take over, leading into 'That Person's Name Is'/the main theme, and all called off with History's chime, before the entire track loops, or ends of you're listening to the ost.

Florsch Personally, Bravely Default is way better than Octopath. Octopath could never hold my attention since the stories seemed very shallow. But to each their own. Hope you give Bravely Default a shot soon. And if you like it, there is a direct sequel titled Bravely Second, and another game in the series that was announced titled Bravely Default 2 (which as far as I know is not part of the same narrative as the first two games).

@@sebastianserrano89 I thought some stories in Octopath were more interesting than others, but overall, yes, they are more simple than other games. Still, love the music, the graphics and the battle/skill system. Been thinking about trying Braverly Default a couple of times. Also saw the announcement for BD2. Hmm, I think there was even a demo out.

I don’t know if you know, but, Xenoblade is a spiritual successor to Xenosaga, of which is a successor to Xenogears, which was made by the FF7 team as a side project during development. So the similar composition may not be that coincidental after all

Composers were different though FF7 was done by Nobuo Uematsu, while Xenoblade is pretty sure Yasunori Mitsuda (also responsible for most of Chrono Trigger's OST) and other composers, which i don't remember. Edit: Wait, Mitsuda might not have been involved. The track was composed by ACE+ or whatever their name is

@talonhowe8131 2 жыл бұрын
@@balsamon69 If I recall, Mitsuda had a somewhat supervising role over 1's soundtrack, and has since made tracks for 2 and 3. Yoko Shimomura is also a pretty key contributor to at least the first game's OST, not sure on the others though.

I love how the guitar starts at the forefront, then immediately backs off to let the strings work the melody; then, as the song builds and builds, the guitar is brought out more and more, right up until the climax where it breaks out in the iconic solo. Perfection.

Xenoblade's music is actually composed by a collaboration of Yoko Shimomura, Yasunori Mitsuda, ACE+, and Manami Kiyota. Xenoblade 2 brought most of these back with Mitsuda playing a larger role. Shimomura wasn't brought back but they did add Kenji Hiramatsu. So yeah, lots of big names involved in the music.

I get the impression that you probably would like Cave Story's soundtrack, especially "Running Hell". Not only are they cool, but the fact that they were mostly made by one man who wasn't even that much into music makes it even more impressive For those who don't know, Cave Story is an indie game from 2003, one of the first to make it BIG. It's maker, know as Pixel, is considered the father of indie games because of it and he made this game in his free time during university (took him 5 years). You can play it on pretty much every console in existance, but the original Free-ware version is still online and can be played
