If you didn't already know, what's even cooler is that the band's name itself is a reference. Ice IX is from a book called Cat's Cradle. I haven't read it myself but Ice IX is basically a version of water that was created in a lab/found and it's a version of water that freezes at room temperature. The reason that's important is that any normal water Ice IX touches will get turned into Ice IX. And since humans are mostly water...you get the idea. Hence, Ice Nine Kills

@@anthonynelson1699 Tbh i’ve never seen the film, so i wouldn’t have caught that. They do a LOT of fun stuff like that, little musical references and homages. It’s super cool. It’s wild how they really sell me on a movie just by the song, like, i never paid attention to Candyman, and never had any desire to watch Evil Dead. But now, I’m probably gonna watch both on Halloweekend because the songs left such a good impression.
@anthonynelson16993 жыл бұрын
@@JesusOfPaign Okay so Evil Dead is great, really, but it is a bit of a hard watch for modern audiences not used to such a rough and dirty film. It's rough and it's clearly Raimi's first feature. I kind of always recommend people go in with Evil Dead 2 because it's truncates the first film into the first 10 minutes and then goes from there (it's a fascinating story about rights in film production I recommend looking up Bruce Campbell's interview on it.) Candyman, however, is a masterpiece. It's one of the best movies ever made, not just in the horror space. The psychological aspects of the film give modern audiences the "whodunnit" fix, while also subverting a large amount of the stale slasher film tropes. REALLY recommend this one.
@JesusOfPaign3 жыл бұрын
@@anthonynelson1699 from what I’ve seen of evil dead 1 - my first/only exposure to it was seeing bits of it in a reaction video just earlier today - it really wasn’t that off putting. It does feel a liiiittle bit amateur and rough around the edges, but honestly that’s true for pretty much every horror movie from the 80’s. If I can get past it for them, evil dead would probably be no exception. Not to mention, there are some things it did very well, as far as I could tell. The practical effects were overall pretty good, and the tone and timing of the action and scares seemed very competent, in some ways even better than its contemporaries.

There is so much to say about this band, I could never compliment them enough in one comment. One of my favorites of recent years by a large margin. I’ve seen them live twice recently within a week of each show. I can’t recommend it enough, the experience is unmatched by any other show I’ve been to. They newest album is my Album of the Year as of now without a doubt. A couple bits of useful information regarding this song: as with almost every song from their last three albums it is a reference to a specific story, this one being Halloween. The storyline presented in the music video has multiple parts throughout songs on the silver scream to form a nice conclusion on ‘IT is the end’ (based on Steven king’s IT). The silver scream 2: welcome to horrorwood that was just released this month had a similar styled storyline with 4 parts as of now. The order is: hip to be scared, assault and batteries, rainy day, and finally funeral derangements. Even if you don’t make a video of it, I highly recommend enjoying the side stories they have created. Thanks again guys for making another wonderful video. I’ll be here to see every release of this 6 by right away. I’ll make sure to drop some more INK facts along the way. Awesome choice and the excitement you show perfectly resembles my love for this band and what I feel every time I hear them. Have a wonderful day! I’ll see you tomorrow.

I'd recommend Howie to look up each songs backstory and the movie/book they are based on, so you David get a better grip on the details. They dont just make great music, they hide a f*ckton of tiny references in their songs too. For exaple in Rocking the Boat (based on Jaws) and in Shower Scene (obviously based on Psycho) they incorporated the iconic movie soundtracks in the breakdowns. I absolutely love that you do a 6 by INK tho, keep it up man, love the channel!

Honestly it is really lovely seeing you get this excited about a band. These guys have blown me away. I am an AVID horror fan but had never known about them until I stumbled onto them a few months back. The ability to write honestly REALLY complex music but make it entirely accessible to the ear is such a massive testament to their talent. JD’s riffs on this album are insane and shouldn’t be undersold, but Dan joining the band brought this insane level of jazzy chromaticism in the dynamics and phrasing of the guitar work. Me and Dan talked every now and again back before he joined the band and I haven’t really spoken to him since I deleted my Facebook account a fear years back. Well fast forward a few years to August this year, where I was listening to his solo album, and whaddya know INK auto played. I am so happy they did because they immediately rocketed to the top of my favorite band pile.

Fun fact Ice Nine Kills got their name from Cats Cradle the book. In the book Ice Nine is a form of water that freezes at room temperature and they put it to use for military equipment to help them traverse muddy areas. Laughed my ass off when you jumped at the intro scream, hahahahahaaaa! The video is delightfully campy to balance out the grisly horror, that's why it's funny. This is based on the Halloween movies, hence Michael Myers and the lyric "It's you or some kid down the street; the choice is yours, TRICK OR FUCKING TREAT!" BTW, Ricky did some of the tracks for STARSET's new album. Something Wicked is a masterpiece. Devolution, Icarus, The Breach, also great.

@@jacobbernard6867 I don't have a CD to check the liner notes about which songs he contributed to, and I haven't found any online source that gives the full performance credits yet, only writing credits. I was kind of meh on Horizons as a whole the first listen, with a few exceptions that I absolutely loved immediately, but I love it more with every listen. I remember it being kind of similar when I first heard Divisions. Like, "where are the screams? Just one heavy song?" I do wish Dustin's screaming was showcased more, like it was on Transmissions and Vessels, but other than the vocals, the music is super heavy. There are a couple of songs in drop E that required an 8 string to record. The lyrics are heavy on a lot of the songs, too. That's part of the appeal of Something Wicked. It doesn't follow any formula, the music is haunting, the lyrics are dark and very personal, and the whole thing is just raw emotion. A masterful work of art. Dustin has said this is their last album with Fearless and they'll be going indie for the next one. I'm curious to see how that affects their artistic choices when they don't have to meet the demands of a record company and can essentially do whatever they want.
