Hello Josh, Coming from Ableton, i was a bit struggling with LPX and I have enjoyed your videos from KZbin so much. I have started with your Logic X 101 series which i am finishing. I want to know where to go next and i am confused by the content of the channel. I see playlists for 202 series which makes sense as the next series but then i have this massive Logic Pro X video tutoral series at Logic Pro X Video Tutorial Series Logic Pro X Video Tutorial Series which contains 173 videos. Is this still relevant? What is this humongous series? Maybe a note on the about section of the youtube section can guide us. Thank you again for the great job and help Frank

I started using (Emagic) Logic in '94 with "Logic Audio v2.5". Back then Logic ran on macOS, Windows, and even an older version called "Notator" still ran on older Atari ST computers… and controlling (sequencing) external MIDI synths, samplers and drum machines was the main objective, and an "audio" version of the program was created to add multi-track audio recording in the same random access production environment. Speaking of "environment", Logic's "environment" was the most significant feature that set it apart from its competitors (today a lot of new Logic users don't even know what it is or even that it's there… it still is). I stumbled upon this and it's just remarkable how a $800-$995 software DAW with NO software instruments could turn into a $199 DAW with a whole suite of software instruments, fx, and other tools. Furthermore, it's fascinating that a beginner's tutorial for what people want to do now with Logic is so very different than how you'd guide people to begin to learn the program 25yrs ago. The reason for guys working with electronic instruments to choose Logic 25yrs ago was without doubt the "environment"… I'd argue today that's still significant if you're an advanced user of MIDI… but the biggest reason now if you're a Mac user is the price vs Pro Tools, Digital Performer or Cubase… and the fact that the same hardware & OS developer also owns and develops the DAW software.

I have watched most of your (currently 91) Logic Pro X videos, and found them to be extremely helpful. I have a music degree and been writing music for many years, and have used other digital audio workstation packages in the past, but a few months ago I began using Logic Pro X and then came across your tutorial series. You helped me get up to speed quickly, and even though I'm still just beginning to scratch the surface of what Logic Pro can do, I've already produced four recordings with it, and I'm very pleased with the way things are headed. Thanks so much for providing these many hours of instruction. I recently signed up for Patreon.com so that I could chip in a couple of bucks each month to help support your work. I hope many others will do the same. Best wishes!

I've been using a Sonar on a PC to record with for years. I recently purchased a Macbook Pro and loathed the idea of learning Logic Pro X. I stumbled across MusicTechHelpGuy on KZbin and I now can get around as if I had been using Logic all along. I want to thank you for making these tutorials in such an easy to understand straightforward way. This is priceless to me personally, as well as a generous contribution to the music making community. Words cannot describe the happiness and inspiration you have given to me, as I have searched, but never found, a reference of this caliber. Again, thank you.

@Leonardo Miguel -- I'm responding this way because there is no replay button below your message. Yes, you can turn off or bypass and effect at some point in the track by using automation. I have a basic video on Automation, but this will be discussed in more detail in my mixing tutorials coming out in a few weeks. Press A to open automation, and then you can choose the parameter you want to automate on the track header.

Hello, I'm confused can anyone help? I have Logic Pro X version 10 and am a complete beginner - on the channel strip, it looks completely different to what shows on the tutorial here which should be the exact same version I believe? I believe it’s at 10.5.1 now, where this video would’ve been on 10.1 or 10.2 maybe? If you look at the comments there’s a link to 10.3 tutorials which may be more useful for you.

Last Friday 21/10/2015, was 'Back to the Future' day... So I thought I'd add a note...For the last 10 or so years I have been battling with my XP (1 gig) Emagic Logic 5.1 for windows setup. 3 days ago I became the proud owner of a 27" iMac retina with Logic Pro X 10.2. At first I was a bit dazzled with all the changes, however now it kind of seems the same as it was back in its windows hey day. Sure, there are plenty of new bells and whistles, but in essence, its still the same. What I am glad about today is that I found your video series..... and what a great way to refresh my memory and learn some new tricks. You do have a very relaxed commentary and everything is well explained and understood from my end, for sure. Thanks heaps, from Greg in Australia ... and I am enjoying my new Logic .... Hi Josh, I would just like to thank you sooooooo much for your time and effort in creating the BEST tutorial for Logic Pro X. After playing live on stage my whole life, I have finally been able to build my own studio in my basement. I must admit I was a bit lost when I first bought Logic and have spent the first 6 months doing simple recording with just getting by on my limited knowledge of DAW programs. I am only half way through your tutorials, and have already learnt so much more on how to use this program. Again thank you for making it even more fun and making my time in my studio a hell of a lot easier. Gareth

Sup Buddy Create an instrument track. Look for the Instrument insert on the channel strip. Click on it and choose the instrument you want. (btw, Logic doesn't use VSTs, it uses AUs). I like Live just fine, I use it quite a bit actually, but in the world of DAWs Ableton is the oddball as far as its layout. Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic, Garageband, Sonar, and StudioOne all pretty much have a similar layout.

Thank you for your descriptions. I’m completely blind, so I appreciate you using the terms that Logic uses, and also keystrokes. Voiceover uses the Logic’s terms to identify things, so when you use the term Inspector, that’s what Voiceover uses. Or if you were to talk about piano roll and other things. Even if it’s not visually name, the fact that you are describing it that way means that I can find it. And the fact that you are describing what keystrokes to use also means I don’t have to look it all up in the keyboard manager all the time. I really appreciate how you do your videos.

Awesome! Just downloaded Logic Pro X last week, never navigated or used a daw or any recording software learning to crawl & your videos make it a blast to use Logic Pro X looking forward to future successive video series of "how to" for beginners

Excellent tutorial! I am new to Logic and need to get a quick run down on some of the basics. You are well spoken, concise and get right to the point. This is exactly what I'm looking for when learning new software and gear. Thanks man! Keep the tutorials coming!

Thanks for posting this tutorial. I think it is a great intro to the Logic Pro X DAW which I used and love. One suggestion I might make is that you point out the fact that the software can be run in a regular mode which bears many similarities with Garage Band X but is less overwhelming for new users. The mode you are running in is the advanced mode which is very powerful but also somewhat overwhelming.

I think the video is great. Not sure why there are so many negative comments. People need to realise there is some effort required on their part as well if they want to learn something. Keep up the good work. Thanks.

Just to say a huge thank you for putting together this series. I love your style of teaching - so clear, logical (pun intended) and well structured - friendly tone and making it feel easy - even for a Logic beginner like me. I'm a voiceover artist myself - coming from a hybrid of Audacity/Audition/SoundForge - and looking forward to seeing what I can do with logic on my iMac. I'm eating up the episodes at a rapid pace and hungry to learn more. Cheers! Pete
