I have the same Exhaust Valve Fail on my '17 F4RR. I disconnected the cable to let the valve open at all time. It still doesn't help as I occasionally get the Exhaust Valve Fail warning on my dash when I'm traveling at the same highway speed (i.e. steady throttle position) for several minutes. My dealer advised me not to worry about it and to reset it, you pull over and shut off the engine for a minute or so. I am truly done with MV Agusta brand as the machine is extremely finicky and the fuel tank is made of plastic. I am slowly decommissioning my F4 as soon as I receive a new fuel tank replacement (deformation due to ethanol content in gasoline). The F4 is truly a bike for the living room and I intend to make it that way. LOL!!! I have learned my lesson to not get any bike with a plastic fuel tank. I am moving on to other bikes with aluminum fuel tank and better reliability, better engine design, and therefore cheaper to maintain. Riding the F4RR is truly a special event for me every single time. I just don't like to deal with its poor reliability and its too many unforgiving characters. I thought when I got the bike, the F4 engine design has matured and therefore its reliability is very high. I mean, the design barely change since 1999[?]. Surely, one hopes that all the bugs have been squashed. Boy, was I completely wrong and disappointed. My Ducati is much better in terms of reliability.
@amv_moto3 жыл бұрын
Yep. The exhaust valve thing is annoying. Luckily mine was replaced under warranty. It took MV almost 2 months to send me a new fuel tank after my first one cracked due to ethanol and then they sent me the wrong color. Dealing with them is a pretty miserable experience. People ask me about buying an MV - I tell them to do it only if you're crazy like me, otherwise get a Ducati.
@kittehmeow64743 жыл бұрын
@@amv_moto My F4 fuel tank should arrive in January 2021 after more than 1 year since the warranty was submitted. I learned to be patient when dealing with MV Agusta. LOL!!! My patience has run out. My last clutch slave cylinder replacement costed me over $1500 because the engine transmission needed to be disassembled just to get to the O-ring on the actuator rod of the clutch. This last service has put the nail in coffin for my F4. I am not getting another MV even though I had seriously considering the Brutale 1000RR. In my own personal experiences, my Ducati never let me down. Ducati manufacturer's recalls were performed flawlessly and expediently by a Ducati dealer. I am truly satisfied with the way Ducati engineered their bikes. And the way the dealer handled the factory recall service to ensure customer's satisfaction. Thank you Ducati.

Thanks for posting this- I got the dreaded malfunction- exhaust valve message today on my 2020 Brutale 800RR SCS around 180 miles from home on my way to Wickenburg AZ for overnight then back up the twisties tomorrow… called the shop and they said it was ok to ride and it could be dealt with at the next oil change… had to look online tho and found this- puts my mind at ease and tomorrow I’ll have even more fun getting home 😂🤣😉

There is a small potentiometer in the servo which operates ex valve. Problem should disappear when you replace that potentiometer. I did that on my Aprilia Tuono which uses the same mikuni servo. Error from the dash disapered and valve operates like it should.
@amv_moto4 жыл бұрын
That's good to know. Since it was under warranty, the shop said the easiest thing to do was to replace the entire servo.

The problem with the exhaust valve motor is that the gears inside this black little box are made from plastic. So when the cables that connect valve and motor are dirty/ rusted/ have any more resistance than they should have, the motor may jump a tooth or two. Unfortunately you can't reset these motors once they skipped teeth

It happened on my f3 800. Had an exhaust buddy fitted to over come the fault.

Tis merely a flesh wound! My B3 keeps me entertained much more. Radiator cracking, sprag issues, hub issues, clutch basket and pressure plate exploding, cam flaking, cam journal wear, multiple sensors failing and set of cush drive rubbers per every tank of petrol. Most unreliable yet most fun to ride bike i ever had. (Tried to get rid of it, of course :-D But nobody wants it :-D)

I suppose if that same setup was on several other brands, it's just a matter of time till they have the same issue too. Side note, picked up a 2020 F3 800 last Saturday (10/31). It's my 6th MV since 2000. (I decided to retire from motorcycling last year....but it didn't stick).
@amv_moto4 жыл бұрын
True. A lot of modern sport bikes use this setup so eventually they have the same problem. Maybe someday someone will come up with something better. Congrats on the new F3 and getting back into riding. Once you have the MV bug, sometimes it's hard to get rid of.

the same error came up on my 18 dragster rr at sub-600 miles. it turns out the exhaust valve cable was completely missing. it took 2 months for the dealer to receive the replacement part from Italy.

The cable was completely missing?! Wow. That’s some great quality control there. And then 2 months to get the part? Yep, that sounds like MV Agusta.

I just had this issue last month and yes the shop use a little box with signal to cheat the computer which would all the way open the valve. The shop told me if change a new set might have the same running a while. Don’t know if the information is true?

Wish MV was more forthcoming about these upcoming issues or would 'gasp' resolved them by offering service bulletins? Maybe they do in Italy but not so in the states. This BS is causing the value of all of these bikes to sync and have existing owners question their buying decision. Waiting for this to happen to my Brutal 800 as well.

@heinzmuller16164 жыл бұрын
Tauren Miller changing the silencer doesn't do anything because the valve sits in the header right after the kat. A full system probably doesn't have the valve
@amv_moto4 жыл бұрын
Yes, MV is still using the same exhaust valve system on the newer bikes so chances are they'll have the same problem eventually. If you get a full system (headers to silencer) that should delete the exhaust valve. If you just get a slip-on, that won't affect the exhaust valve (because it sits in the lower canister in front of the silencer) so you'll still have the same problem eventually.

@@amv_moto In order to clear the check engine light you must install a Healtec Servo Buddy and even then you are not guaranteed to clear the code on the dash. Its irritating to say the least.
@ESBKLife11 ай бұрын
Just FYI, this isn't an MV problem. MV's get a bad rap for a lot of problems, but this isn't MV-specific. My S1000RR HAD one as well. As mentioned a LOT of bikes have these exhaust valves. It's a poor design to a poor solution to a problem that shouldn't even be a problem to begin with. Especially with loud-ass Harleys all over the place. Unless you're in Cali, replace the exhaust system with something like an SC Project, Arrows or Termi exhaust system. Then get the ECU flashed and live happily ever after 😀. Or at the very least get a servo buddy to disable the damn thing and a piggyback fuel controller like a PC5 or a RapidBike Evo unit. I dunno what it is with Italian bike manufacturers, but outside of Aprila they can't tune a motorcycle worth shit! At least not US-bound bikes anyway! So a proper tune should be in your future regardless. No matter if you get it from a piggyback fuel controller or an ECU flash!
