Getting a Dremel or other type of small rotary tool with a couple of router bits (and they make all kinds of bits for different jobs) would make doing pockets for hardware much easier, faster, and cleaner. A ton of uses for these versatile little tools.

Congrats for 1980 boat aquizition ! You will never sorry for having one, because the valiu never drop but increase and it is beautiful, easy to handle and also reliable. In my oppinion you should also paint (with the same colour) and the bottom of the carved side of the handles, just because it is possible to drop some liquids on the floor and it is indicate to protect the wood under those handles .... no offense please ! It is not to late to do this opperation after reading this. For the rest .... only RESPECT !! Carry on !!

Bayliner boats are popular in the US. I am betting that is a General Motors 4 cylinder cast iron block pushrod engine. Usually very reliable and easy to work on. This engine was first manufactured in the 1960s. If you have access to the front pulley on the engine and a long socket wrench (the nut is probably SAE) then I would remove the spark plugs, add some penetrating oil to each cylinder and let it sit over night. Try to turn the crank the next morning. Repeat for 3-5 days before giving up completely. If it does move, proceed with normal checks for starting an old engine, fuel and spark (the carburetor likely needs cleaning). If you can get it to start, you can use it as is for the rest of the season.

G'day Crew,, After your recent adventure of acquiring the dock, fitting it with navigation lights and crusing across half of Europe to unite it with your "first boat" ,the pontoon dock could rightly be considered as the "second boat ". So my friend,, you are now the proud owner of your "third" & "fourth" boats ,, if my pontoon math is correct . Sorry to rock the boat . Love the speedy new acquisition , hope the engine is a relatively simple fix. Yet another cool episode for the faithful, Respect from Down Under

Hi, it is completely normal for a boat to turn that way when you direct the engine in that way, if you direct the engine in the other direction, you drive the bow into the bridge so, To get the bow out, the stern must turn a little into the bridge / portside. Regards Per

The outboard motor's thrust was pushing you into the dock. You could have put the outboard into reverse to pull the stern away from the dock, once clear, you could go forward. Attaching the dingy painter on the same side as the outboard was a good move. If you have to install more hatch pulls, I suggest you invest in a router to make the job faster. Even just a router attachment for a Dremel tool would help.

The out drive on the larger boat has to be turned in a 90 degree to the boat with the small moter if it is turned in any degree from dead ahead it will try to steer the boat. If you put thin epoxy on the pocket cut then apply a small amount of thicken epoxy and put a cover of thin plastic sandwich wrap over the cut out section and then put in the pull and put weight on it until it sets . When you paint it, it will look as if you molded the board to the pull The plastic will not stick to the ecpoy

That issue with the dinghy is how you steer if you loose rudder, but have power. In fixed shaft boats, have needed it once. A bucket on rope or rope with ballast will give steering based on attachment relative to propulsion. 🤓

I have been daydreaming of buying a boat for much longer than you have been posting these delightful videos. Boats here (St Augustine, FL, USA) have gotten really expensive and marina space harder to find. A while back there was a 52 foot iron ketch about 300 miles away for a very good price. It was floating at least and the seller was saying good things. Part of my daydreams is to temporarily attach auxiliary outboards in such a situation and motor home. Although I haven't finished all the desirable sailing training courses (ASA-104 and more) one day I might get a boat. I understand the time and effort needed on a project boat. Also here in Florida, USA there is a lot of lightning whenever it storms which seems like every afternoon. Please keep making the delightful videos! It is inspiring.

I love your channel, but next time you need to install a recessed a.k.a. a flush mount handle in wood. Chisel out the opening like you normally do, but then just use a "Forstner bit," put two holes directly next to each other, and connect them together with your chisel. Then you can just chisel out the excess material and the hinge relief. It will save you a massive amount of time in the long run. Especially if you're gonna have to do more of those; which on a boat usually everything has a recessed handle. Anyway, good luck, stay safe, and great job with the new addition, it looks like a lot of fun.

@@oualie705 there is Marine grade plywood. As a boat owner you’ll realize that there’s not only water from the ground. The constant level of humidity In marine surroundings plus the expose to heat due to lack of shadow will make a lot of plywood expand. Plywood wouldn’t even work in humid countries like Southeast Asia. Therefore there is frp reinforced plywood for marine purposes. It’s hella pricey but there’s a reason why an engineer or a shipwright decided not to use regular plywood or „siebdruckplatten“ on boats. Their craft has hundreds of years of history and sometimes it makes sense to think twice. Not taking anything away fro the work itself. It’s just the wrong materials

You're working so hard I hope it turns out great. This is to help; next time you run wires on a boat, pay the little extra for tinned wire, such as from Ancor Marine. It's more expensive but will last significantly longer, especially if you're near salt. On a boat, corrosion will start at one end of a copper wire and run right through the entire wire leaving you with a mess. Tinned wire will last significantly longer. Fill any connections with dielectric grease to make it last even longer. For butt splices, pack the connector with dielectric grease, pull heat shrink over the joint and fill the heat shrink with dielectric grease before you shrink it. This does an excellent job at keeping water and corrosion out for years.

Seized engine= REBUILD= Tear Down Completely... while you could, theoretically, tear down the engine in place, the question becomes: will it be quicker/easier to remove the engine completely for easy access to all the little bolts holding all the various odds-and-ends attached to the engine (the removal of which will have headaches all its own), or suffer the slow and tedious trials and tribulations of removing those odds-and-ends in a cramped space? Both options have negative points. I would personally opt for the removal headaches, bolt the engine to a stand, and tear it down on that. Why? You can more easily find ALL the little problems on an engine with easy access to every part. Trust me on this.

The only question I have, so far, are you "grounding" the electrical components (their chassis to the steel body of the boat)? Just something to check on.. Some sensitive components may not operate efficiently without it. Happy boating!!.. just have you know, you are truly living the dream of many of your viewers.. lol.. mine included.. CHEERS!!!
