Having a couple of 4Runners and liking to use them for camping in, one trick I've used for camping with just the three of us (2 humans, 1 dog). We disconnect the fold up seat bottoms for back seat and leave them at home. We can keep the backs in the upright position so dog can still have his "backseat" area for travel. He doesn't seem to mind not having cushions to sit on and when we convert to a bed, we have more leg room with the lack of those folded up rear seat cushions. Great content though, love the humor !
@BeThatAsItMay3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t realize they still act as a seat just without cushions. That might just work for this pup who really enjoys her backseat spot!

You & I have the same gutter covers for our windows and shower system, but I rarely stay in established campgrounds. I stay on federal lands or BLM to get the most bang for my buck. I did get a shower tent finally since there have been so many new people camping, which I put down a rubber bathtub mat + keep my bucket toilet in. I boil about a 2 qts of water & add a qt more for showering when washing my hair, which leaves just enough to wash the dog. I have a cot to slide stuff under. I use a TV tray so I can cook inside (coffee 1st), or if it's raining or cold (yes,I'm a wimp). I like your expandable bucket and I'll need to get one. It seems like a great space saver.

Nice and simple camper build in your 4th Gen 4Runner. I've been working on building an overland camper conversion in the back of my 2005 4Runner, since I'm planning to live in it full time I opted to remove the back seats and build a plywood floor/bed with cabinets over the wheel wells instead of a platform, trying to maximize both comfort and storage space as much as possible without adding too much weight. I've been working on the project off and on for about 8 months now, but pretty close to having it finished.
@BeThatAsItMay3 жыл бұрын
Awesome! If I wasn’t traveling with my doggo I would have considered taking out the back seats but since she sits back there, it seemed to work better like this. Your setup will definitely be roomier/better storage!

I prefer "Headroom" to a platform Shelves/cubbies on each side over the wheel covers works well. Then that folding mat fits in between. During the day it folds at one end as a lounge chair. I've seen that idea 💡of using the rain 🌧gutter cover as rain guards on another channel.....great idea.

You’re a lot more flexible than I am - I’d like to have a low platform like yours but it’s pretty cramped for me with just a 3” foam mattress. Love the leather drawer handles! Im building something similar in my 4runner and wanted a drawer handle that was easy to use but wouldn't stick out and prevent it from closing; and these fit the bill. I noticed your drawers don't have drawer slides, I've only seen that on trucks that have a tailgate so wasn't sure I could do it. Do those work well for you?I would like to not have to get drawer slides if I don't have to.
@BeThatAsItMay3 жыл бұрын
Nice! I didn't use drawer slides on mine but I got this Teflon tape stuff that I put on the wood rails to help it slide easier. They're a little heavy when fully loaded up but they slide great! I'd highly recommend it!

Can you provide an updated video to this one. You’re so funny.
@KG-cl9gv4 жыл бұрын
See your video pop up here, it was pretty funny, your editing style . I got a 2005 and need ideas for how to use the room in it. It’s challenging because there isn’t much of it. I had a Jeep and it was even more of a challenge! But I guess the platform IS. the answer . Hey, how deep/ high are the drawers ? AND how DID you stay cool in the heat ( was it the screens only ?). Last question: what do you use the passenger seat for ? Have you considered removing it for more room ?
@BeThatAsItMay4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, making such a small space livable is definitely a challenge! The platform helps, I think this one is about 8 inches high and I think that's plenty. I travel with a small 12V fan that I plug into my battery bank - it's tiny and draws hardly any power but is surprisingly effective. As for the front seat, I suppose I could have taken it out, but just didn't get around to it. I'm not sure how much more space it would really get you though. Worth a shot!

@@BeThatAsItMay okay awesome that’s what I’m thinking will be easiest. Like a small bin/bag down below and a large bag to refill stored above. We’re you concerned about the food in the car with temperatures really hot in places? Cus I know on the bag it says to keep it stored between like 62-74 degrees or whatever but even in 70 degree weather the car can heat to like 85/90 ish ya know? Let alone desert temps.
