I was expecting 6 months but its looking more like 18 months! So many bits to replace or refurb....I don’t like doing half a job so I’ve been delving deeper and replacing more parts than perhaps I could have got away with but I don’t want to have to strip the engine twice! 😄

Stick with it Chris, the GTVs are getting quite rare now, and prices are definitely on the rise. They're a thing of quirky beauty. A couple of years ago there were plenty for sale, this year I've only seen three come up on the local internet auction site.

Yes I think so too - the V6’s have started to be a rarer car now and are hardly ever seen on the road sadly. I plan to drive mine plenty next year! 😉

Cheers for watching - mine has done about 115k, so the Busso is only just run in! 😄. The engine shop commented on what perfect condition the valves and heads were in. Just gave it a very light skim for safety and new valve guides and a clean! Such a great engine.
@DoctorDARKSIDE5 жыл бұрын
115k km or miles? If miles then roughly the same mileage as mine - they are bulletproof, low stress engines quite overbuilt (also why they are rather heavy units). I drive it quite hard and I think it's one of the secrets to keep a Busso going as it keeps everything well lubricated and deposits-free. Nice mod with the GTA cams - will you do a remap afterwards? Got mine done and truly would never go back. Would definitely get a good exhaust system done also - nice to let the Busso breathe and to celebrate the aural presence it has. Free sample on mine: kzbin.info/www/bejne/poPSlZWMaNdmmZY
@TheAlfaNut5 жыл бұрын
@@DoctorDARKSIDE Yes 115k miles - looking at all the invoices I have, mine has obviously been well-maintained for most of it's life which helps but I'm a big believer in more frequent oil changes and I use top-drawer Millers. I'll definitely do a remap afterwards and I have a larger bore Cybox stainless exhaust for now. I may eventually treat myself to a Wizard exhaust and manifolds! (Remortgage required!)

Haha well....we’ve got the belt on, new tensioner, pulleys and it’s timed up correctly - we were turning it by hand today and all seems good after several attempts to get the belt tight enough. We stood back and were pleased with ourselves until I noticed that we’d forgotten to fit the cam belt covers before the pulleys went back on!! Bollocks! Yes you’re right - I just wanted to go slowly in case of “user error”!! In fact I’ve bought a Dremel for the little hard to reach areas but there isn’t a lot of rust to be fair, just some little spots here and there on the front chassis rail etc. (A bit more on the floor pan though which I’ll be dealing with once the car is moving.)

@therushden5 жыл бұрын
Tar and glue remover. Autosmart tardis is good. Sometimes a petrol soaked rag is good for stubborn marks. Obviously give it a good wash after.
@aussiebloke6095 жыл бұрын
If memory serves, super glue is a cyanoacrylate - so acetone should soften it up nicely (and dissolve it completely if you give it enough time.) But like with any solvent, check first to see if it will also dissolve your paint before you try it.
