Brainiac completely DOMINATED this episode. We thought Zero Day was dark, but it doesn't get much darker than enslaving the minds of your defeated foes to fight eternally on your side, brainwashing your adopted daughter to commit planetary genocide, altering her memories so she never questions you, and exploiting that last part to abuse her because it's not like she'll remember it. Brainiac may be following his original programming by waging war for the Kryptonian Empire, but even beyond being what he was created to do it's clear he takes absolute delight in being such a monster. And you can tell that for all Clark's holding back on Earth, he was about to choose VIOLENCE with Brainiac. "Cruel is a word created by the weak" is an awesome line and sums up this incarnation of Brainiac perfectly.

That reveal at the end made my jaw drop. Poor Kara. I'm very interested to see where her story goes, knowing she did what she did even if she was brainwashed by Brainiac, AND the complication this will bring is she returns to Earth with Clark & company. Lex Luthor and all of them already don't like Superman. To bring back someone who, in their minds (regardless if she was mind-controlled), is a mass murder will be a MAJOR issue.

This latest episode was definitely great. Superman awakened, kidnapped again, only this time he's lost in space. As misguided as Kara is shown to be, deep down, she does want to bond with Clark. Despite not agreeing with each other, Clark and Kara are definitely bonding. I can't help but enjoy how Clark teases Kara when he realizes that she has a crush on his friend Jimmy. Of course, Kara gets him back by pretending that the helmet part of her suit is malfunctioning, only to reveal to Clark that super powered kryptonians can survive in the vacuum of space. It was nice seeing them play in space. Apparently, Clark is aware of the moments when he suddenly gets more powerful and how it's usually due to a moment when he needs to protect someone. Kara seems to show signs that such a phenomenon has never happened to her. When Clark and Kara arrive on Thanagar and see it destroyed, this is where we start to see the cracks in Brainiac's conditioning over Kara. Kara showed signs of not knowing what Brainiac had her do to the planets that are made a part of the new kryptonian empire. Brainiac, tired of waiting, sends his drones to get Kara and Superman back on course with his ship, which apparently is this show's version of Kandor. We are also made painfully aware that Kara has no knowledge of her biological father Zor-El. Her adopted father is Primus Brainiac, and he's quite the villain in this episode. Around Kara, Brainiac acts like a father, but he shows more of his true personality around Clark when it's just them. Brainiac revealed to Kal-El that he knew both of his biological parents Jor-El and Lara, using that knowledge to lure Clark in. It marks the first time Clark learned about his biological mother's name. Then to test what Superman is capable of, he has his drones take on the form of a Green Lantern, and Parademon, and a Thanagarian. After seeing Superman's great potential, Brainiac is convinced that he can use Superman's powers to restore the kryptonian empire, starting with the conquering of Earth. Naturally, Superman won't let Brainiac take over Earth or use him as his weapon, but Brainiac clearly is going to try to force Superman to his will. Despite Superman's best efforts, once Brainiac used a red sun energy field, it was easy for him to subdue our kryptonian hero. To make things worse, we start to see the full effects of Brainiac's conditioning over Kara. It's a combination of raising her, manipulating her, and even brainwashing her. However, her time with Jimmy and Clark have influenced Kara to learn the truth of what Brainiac had her do, which seemed to set her up on a path to redemption. A small glimmer of hope is shown when a ship reaches Kara carrying Lois, Jimmy, Malah and the brain. I can't wait to see explanation of how they got into space in the next episode.

I think this brianiac is destroying these planets through Kara as a means of revenge. I am sure that when he introduced the green lantern, the parademon, and the thanagarian, he introduced them as original dissenters/enemies of the ORIGINAL Kryptonian empire. Thus, brainiac is probably trying to eliminate them before they become a threat to the new Kryptonian empire.
@pabloestrada51515 ай бұрын
Revenge for what?
@devinurbina68685 ай бұрын
@@pabloestrada5151 that depends on how the other planets are related to Krypton. If they were competing empires, then the revenge is for them daring to compete with empires. If they were solitary planets powerful enough to rebuke Krypton (or Krypton never tried to subjugate them by force), then the revenge is for not bowing to Krypton.If these planets were colony worlds, then they were probably very costly for the empire to maintain due to being filled with dissenters. Thus, the revenge is for not being "model Kryptonian citizens" when they had the chance.

I think the pixelation going on with the Thanagarian mural was Kara's mental programming keeping her from seeing it. She broke through, so it cleared up. I don't think it was a digital display. I'm guessing that the Red Sun energy doesn't take away his powers as is normally the case, but it just reduces them to minimum power...perhaps? The "ultimate powerup" Superman gets could very well be from absorbing yellow sun energy for 20 years or so and all that yellow sun radiation boosted his powers to 11 on a 10 scale? I'm guessing they may explain it at some point (or maybe not) but either way it's kinda fun to see "Superman Blue" type powers as part of "regular" Superman.

I don't think Brainiac is trying to bring back the Kryptonian Empire at all. He's just full of bias If he was interested in that he would just have made the populations of those worlds submit and start an occupation with his robots or something, not ordering Kara to genocide them. He just delights in making Kara do his dirty job, the same way he enjoyed torturing Clark I would think he actually hates Kryptonians. Would not be a surprise that he is resentful towards his creators that used him as a servant who knows for how long. In many continuities he's either responsible or an accessory to the Kryptonians fall. My guess is that he's following the same procedure the Brainiac fellows in other adaptations: invade a planet to take all their knowledge, take a few samples and specimens and in this case have Kara kill everyone. The idea of a New Kryptonian Empire was just another lie.

She isn't brainwashed, it's just like how the virtumites aren't brainwashed it's the culture and beliefs
@Omn1Media5 ай бұрын
No it's not. She is literally brainwashed. She's a tool. Brainiac says as much. What she believes isn't real. He's programmed her with propaganda and trigger words to activate his control over her. She literally blacked out, committed genocide and doesn't remember any of it. Her idea of what they are doing isn't true which isn't the case with Viltrumites. All of that was against her will. There is no empire to be welcomed into, it's just death. That was the whole point of the last section of the episode was her learning the truth.

I think the Kryptonians actually bothered ruling people, unlike Brainiac that is just looting and genociding like a plague of locusts. He had to brainwash Kara so she went along with it and did his dirty work. And Brainiac enjoy it as he relished torturing Clark. He's a colossal dick.

Why is Jimmy Olsen in black face on this show? Isn’t that viewed as racism these days?
@MasterofRoku4 ай бұрын
This isn't offensive Blackface where a white character covers themselves in paint and pretends to be black. The term you're looking for is raceswapped, and this isn't bad as this version of Jimmy is interesting and fun to watch.

@@MasterofRoku Jimmy Olsen is white, they are coloring him brown in this show to represent a black person. That is the actual definition of black face. I just can’t figure out how DC plans to incorporate a character doing this into a storyline. It’s bold but a pretty risky move since most people find black face offensive.
@MasterofRoku4 ай бұрын
@ghostcircuitry That's not it. If you google the actual definition, it states, "The term Black Face is used to refer to the practice of wearing makeup to imitate the appearance of a Black person. The use of such makeup was associated with minstrel shows in the United States from the 1830s until the mid 20th century. " Jimmy is not portraying Black people in a negative light here in this series. The better term for this IS "Raceswap," where a previously established character's race is changed in an adaptation. Some examples of this are Jim Gordon in The Batman movie, Deadshot in Suicide Squad movies, and heck even Lois Lane in My adventures of Superman because now she's Asian. Going back to Jimmy, some people are upset about it, but they're in the minority. Others are mostly fine with it because it's not like Jimmy's original race was that important in the comics. He was a side character who would sometimes get into weird shenanigans. Also, Jimmy in MAWS is a good friend to Clark here as he knew Clark was Superman in the show but respected that Clark would tell him his secret when he was ready.

@@MasterofRoku Jimmy Olsen is white. Either he spent way too much time in the sun or he is painting himself brown every morning when he wakes up. Maybe they will address why he is doing so later on down the line in the story , until then we can only speculate. I say again, I’m not sure if DC is trying to normalize alternative lifestyle culture (black face is not unlike drag queens in a lot of ways - one’s desire to portray what they are not born as , characterizing in the process) but again, very progressive move by DC to say it’s acceptable to wear black Face if that’s what you identify with.

@ghostcircuitry Now you're just being a troll, or you're not grasping what definitions or examples I laid out. At the end of the day, this show is just an adaptation of a superhero comic, the Multiverse exists, and Jimmy Olsen has been Black before (Live-Action Supergirl Tv show). Later.
