What's a movie you didn't fully watch as a kid because it was to scary?
@T0mat0_S0up Жыл бұрын
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory played by Johnny Depp because of Augustus Gloop getting sucked into the pipe pretty much scared me really badly and I hated it when someone mentioned that movie to me. I used to completely avoid that movie because of that scene. Same with Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory played by Gene wilder because I hated seeing that pipe scene as a kid. As I got older I can now acknowledge that they’re both classics and really good movies.

I appreciate that you brought your orientation up. It's important to talk openly about these things, which hasn't always been the case. I remember when I was around 11 or 12 years old in the late 90s, watching the movie Starship Troopers with a couple of friends. I don't know if you've seen it, but there's a famous shower scene in which both male and female soldiers are featured - all naked. I remember how my friends (boys) drooled over those bare tits, but I didn't pay that much attention to them. But I sure got really excited (and a concrete physical reaction) when I saw Casper Van Dien's absolutely gorgeous bum at the end of the scene. I didn't feel like mentioning it much to my friends. 😅 Movies can help people realize interesting things about themselves.

That makes no sense there's far better looking more attractive women & males that straight males could understand women being attracted to then Brendan frasier or the cast of this film series. I guess I could a case of brendan being sort of a nice guy type but I still don't see it while Chris Hemsworth or Tom Hardy I can see why women dig them as celebrities & even without their fame or fortunes let alone being nice down to earth guys even as famous & rich as they are. Keanu Reeves I also in a way can see. These would probably be the only 3 male celebrities of any sense of fame that I'd be remotely jealous of. Even the Idea of a woman being only covered in ink doesn't make her beautiful.

Gr8 film and reaction! My late wife and I caught this one in the theater upon its release. Debbie was employed @ a CPA firm for a time where Brendan Fraser happened to be one of the clients. She met him on several occasions when he'd pop into the office (she noted that he was a very friendly, personable individual), and she even secured his autograph (this being about the period when "The Mummy" premiered), so therefore, for me, is now a special possession inherited from her in remembrance. She and I have enjoyed his performances going back to the days of "Encino Man and "George of the Jungle". His Oscar was well earned, too.

I love the "covering his bases" joke as you described it - it's initially goofy, but the way it segues in to a plot develop is genius! This is a film with a lot of fun and charm and heart. I miss films like this, to me it feels like the major studios play it a bit too safe so you don't tend to get the films that take odd chances (except if they can fit them in to an easily marketable franchise). It helps that Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz and John Hannah are fantastically broad actors who can switch from comedy to tragedy so when the film needs that deeper moment, they have the acting talent to deliver it. There are some great moments in the seuel which most people who love the first film also enjoy (barring a few janky CGI bits...). Fraser had a long acting hiatus, but if you fancy seeing John Hannah at his best, he is pretty good in Sliding Doors, and excellent in Four Weddings And A Funeral. For Rachel Weisz, there is a number of films you can pick, but the acting on the whole with her and Ralph Fiennes in "The Constant Gardener" is top level and I find it a fascinating and compelling story too. If you want to try another charming adventure film from around this era, The Mask Of Zorro with Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta Jones is a bit of a throwback to the swashbuckling films of the 30s with lots of swordplay and a good dash of humour.

Speaking of the 1940s, society was MUCH more misogynistic back then. So, not many women were educated in fields like archaeology so the remark "what does a women know" was typical, especially if it was a man from the Middle East.

8:55 "A book out of pure gold? That's got to weigh a lot, right?" I dunno. Ask Joseph Smith. He claims he found an Egyptian book made of pure gold. When translated to English, it had almost 270,000 words; that's more than the first two Harry Potter novels put together. But in Egyptian Hieroglyphics, it must have been massive. He and his few friends that claim to have lifted it say it weight between 14-27 kg (their estimates varied quite a bit). For comparison: typical gold ingot (the kind that is about the size of a brick you might use to build a brick wall) weighs about 12 kg.
@Sessis Жыл бұрын
Cool I’ve never heard about that. Did they ever provide any prof that they found a golden book?
@blakewalker84120 Жыл бұрын
@@Sessis About 17 million Mormons believe it. The rest of the world does not. No proof was ever given. Joseph Smith was the only human who saw it (his friends helped carry a closed box but never saw the book). Smith claims angels took it to heaven when he was done translating it. Convenient for his story, but very inconvenient as far as proof goes.

I don't think that nepotism was involved in hiring Evie as the librarian. Unless I misunderstood what was meant by 'patrons'. "I put up with you because your mother and father were our finest patrons." I understand 'patrons' as meaning buyers, but I suppose it could mean that they supplied many of the items in the museum. In that case, you would probably be right.
@Sessis Жыл бұрын
It kinda feels like nepotism because while she seems definitely qualified would that man really have hired her if it wasn’t for her parents influence. Which of course is a him issue so yeah, that’s why I said a little bit of nepotism because it’s not as obvious as say Percy in The Green Mile.
@ronfehr7899 Жыл бұрын
@Sessis I see your point. I guess it all depends on how people define nepotism.

Great reaction Sessis like always, I remember when this movie came out it was so fun to watch i really enjoy it, great cast. The Mummy is a Universal movie, and the Mummy is one of the classic Universal monsters. Though Universal did not invent the concept of the mummy, “The Mummy” is their character. This 1999 movie is considered a remake of 1932’s The Mummy, even if it doesn’t feel much like a remake, and some fun facts about this movie this was shoot in africa and not in Marrakech, Morocco, and then they went to shoot in the Sahara Desert in Morocco and was wellIt’s hard to avoid dehydration in the desert. Apparently, it’s impossible to avoid sandstorms. Sandstorms interrupted shooting basically every day of the production. More concerning is the fact multiple members of the crew were hospitalized for being bitten or stung by bugs and animals in the Sahara. And in that scene where O’Connell is hanged, Fraser actually stopped breathing and had to be resuscitated. In their respective DVD commentaries, both Fraser and Sommers point to a close-up in the scene where he couldn’t quite touch his toes as he hung in the noose, and ended up passing out. Keep up the amazing work Sessis. Take care and have a wonderful weekend.

12:45 "What? It's inside his body? How the F does that work?" Painfully. 12:54 "That's not real, right? There's no bugs that can do that?" No. No bugs can do that. This is a monster movie about monsters and magic. Sometimes we just have to suspend our disbelief.

Okay that’s good to know, I was thinking since there are some things like tapeworm that can enter the human body maybe there are bugs that I haven’t heard of that can do it too
@blakewalker84120 Жыл бұрын
@@Sessis No, nothing invades any living body, doing what this beetle did, in seconds or minutes or even hours. Tapeworms grow inside us from eggs. Some microscopic mites live on our skin and can burrow into it, but just barely into our outer layers of skin. The scariest creature that I know about that can burrow into a human body, still nothing like this beetle, is the Candiru fish in the Amazon river basin. Google it at your own risk; it's pretty gross. But it does take days to kill a person, not seconds, and can be surgically removed with no harm to the human except a scar.

I've said it before and I will always say it with both pride and confidence: The Mummy AND The Mummy Returns are both better than The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor. I LOVE the chemistry between Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz (love Maria Bello, but her faked accent left everything to be desired) and while I LOVE Jet Li, Arnold Vosloo plays a villainous ancient corpse way better. Also, as many times as I've seen this movie, I always get jumpscared when Jonathan pops up out of the sarcophagus with that mummy to scare his sister. Fun facts: Camels are slower than horses, but are built for life in the desert. Even though they do eventually need to eat and drink, they can live off the fat reserves in their humps for short periods of time, they have long eyelashes to keep sand and dust out of their eyes, what they lack in speed, they make up for in endurance, and they have large feet, so they don't sink into the sand when they're walking. You know the swarm of locusts that emerges as soon as Imhotep wakes up? The ones that are crawling on the Egyptologist are actually grasshoppers that were refrigerated to make them sluggish.

I don't think that there's anyone who would disagree with you about TM and TMR. But even the third one I think is much better than Tom Cruise's "Mummy" reboot. And TMR is great except for the extremely dated and bad CGI of Dwayne The Rock Johnson's Scorpion King. I also love Arnold Vosloo's villian in "Hard Target" (1993), and in "G.I. Joe" (2009)
