All this alternate timeline nonsense! Just say it for what it is. Writers, directors, qnd other filmmakers got hold of the IP after the original trilogy and wanted to do their own thing using existing characters to draw an existing fanbase to their movies. Simple bait and switch. Then they convolute a whole "alternate timeline" shtick to explain off all the changes they wanted to make. Problem is, they lost the plot and started delving into things they couldn't explqin away with just a timeline trope. Bad writing. It's the Rian Johnson/jj abrams effect.

This takes place after the time reset from Days of Future Past, (so before Logan enters the story,) and the events in the first several movies has not happened and may change (has changed). Many events may not happen in the new timeline. Jean's origin story has changed from the 1st storyline where she was born w/ the gift of the Phoenix and it's powers. Jean is possibly alive at the end here, but no one knows it. Everybody loves the Deadpool movies... except me. They are very good, but it's just not my type of humor. I think they're okay, but I'm an outlier fan. I do recommend them to most other people, so do watch them. The New X-Men is in the X-Men universe and there are references in the movie, but there is no current crossover of established characters, thus far. Not exactly a popular movie. Watch it or not is fine either way. I liked, but not loved, the movie. The movie Logan occurs at a point well after this film, so it could be better to watch Logan last.

Hey, Sessis! Your Xavier question was answered in the end-credit scene of "X3: The Last Stand"! Multiple commenters have replied to you about this on multiple videos! You didn't seem to recognize Caliban from "Apocalypse"! He was Psylocke's underworld employer played by Tomas Lemarquis. Different actors, same character! "Shane", the movie they watch in the hotel, is an incredibly famous Western with an iconic ending. This movie mirrors its symbolism and referencing it foreshadowed the ending. "Logan" was rated R! The success of "Deadpool" made it possible to produce an R-rated superhero film. Fans had clamored for this since Wolverine is savage in the comics! The previous films had toned him down dramatically! The movie is based on three graphic novels: "Old Man Logan" written by Mark Millar and illustrated by Steve McNiven, "The Death of Wolverine" written by Charles Soule and illustrated by Steve McNiven, and "NYX" written by Joe Quesada and illustrated by Joshua Middleton. I have mixed feelings about this film. The performances by Stewart and Jackman are superb and altering the source material to make Xavier the cause of the team's destruction is a brilliant choice. The Xavier seizures are intense and Wolverine gets to finally cut loose showcasing unfettered versions of their power sets! Having Wolverine confront a feral version of himself is compelling and his sacrifice is powerful. The relationship with X-23 is poignant and funny. Dafne Keen was a revelation and continued to impress in her subsequent roles! Bringing his death into metaphorical alignment with Yukio's vision in "The Wolverine" is a stroke of genius as he dies holding his "heart", Laura, in his hand. The subtle technological advances like automated highways are very creative touches. I loved that they brought an obscure bit player like Caliban back and gave him such a meaty supporting role which Stephen Merchant made a meal of. Donald Pierce's characterization diverged from comic accuracy significantly but Boyd Holbrook's charismatic portrayal was riveting! I loved the introduction of the cyborg Reavers! It's a fitting end to the Fox continuity. My problem is that it renders all the X-Men's struggles meaningless. They are tragically undone by their own founder and leave a legacy of fear behind. It is far too bleak an outlook to accept that they accomplished nothing. Very moving, very sad but a little disappointing. Plus, although the comic "Old Man Logan" could never have been adapted faithfully, I would've loved to see Old Man Hawkeye as well as Logan bursting out of the Hulk's stomach like an "Alien" chestburster! Lol. The death of Wolverine occurs in a different graphic novel entirely. Logan suffers from adamantium poisoning as in the movie because his healing factor is weakening but he gets entombed in molten adamantium in "The Death of Wolverine" roasted and suffocating. Of course, being comics, he returns after a time. I definitely recommend watching the first 2 Deadpool movies they are great fun and I know you will laugh and cry with them but they are on the dirtier side of jokes but when you get to Deadpool 3 Deadpool and Wolverine it requires a bit of homework before watching (Marvel movies Blade, Fantastic Four, Daredevil, and the Loki Disney+ series at least if you want to go all out then also watch Blade 2, Blade Trinity, Elektra then some none marvel movies Mad Max Fury Road, and Furiosa A Mad Max Saga).

Hey, Sessis! The Phoenix Saga ranks among the greatest X-Men stories ever. A studio would require four complete films to do it justice! I appreciated that "Dark Phoenix" made a good faith effort to tell the Saga with as much fidelity as possible despite unavoidably necessary alterations based on the franchise's early narrative choices and the lack of cosmic build-up. A cosmic element is at THE ROOT of this story and a lack thereof in "X3" contributed greatly to mangling the tale during Fox's first pass. However, even without that background knowledge, the movie takes great pains to seamlessly integrate the more outlandish elements by carefully explaining what the Phoenix Force is, how it destroyed the D'Bari world, how Vuk's group survived and why they wish to harness this power in that beautiful starscape sequence. Rather than finding it jarring, I saw it as a natural expansion of the X universe. The single greatest correction directly contradicts the end of "Apocalypse" which implied the Phoenix Force was an intrinsic manifestation of Jean's power. The plot quickly establishes that an EXTERNAL presence bonds with Jean augmenting her telekinetic abilities. Once the writers established that, I forgave the film any flaw because I realized that Fox was earnestly attempting to give fans the story they so desperately wanted to see. Not only did they get the power source correct but then they added the shuttle incident, the planetary holocaust, an extraterrestrial presence and Jean's apotheosis. These were all accurate but risky decisions since the series had been so earthbound up until this point. However, as the license was expiring, Fox decided to go for broke and I applaud their effort. They so aimed to please that they even give us a brief glimpse of Genosha, the mutant sanctuary. Sure, Genosha looks like a refugee camp instead of a bustling tropical metropolis and Jessica Chastain is not Empress Lilandra of the Shi'ar Empire but Fox gets points for trying. Although there is less social allegory and more derivative beats, you still get the powerful duality of Erik and Charles, the same clutch of terrific actors and some extraordinary fight sequences with powers used in concert. X-Men movies may not all reach transcendent heights but they never fail to entertain. It's impossible to dislike a movie that has Jean humble the two most powerful figures we know by crushing Erik's helmeted head and by forcing Charles to stumble up a flight of stairs! The concluding train reshoots were cobbled together hastily but we see the youngsters cut loose for the first time with savage results in a brutal climax! These are the simple pleasures to be had in this film. You should see the animated adaptation of the Phoenix Saga from the '90's cartoon! It is by far the most comic accurate with Jean's gut-wrenching heroic sacrifice on the Blue Area of the Moon. The mutant student in white with the blue eye paint who was singing amid the swirling lights in the garden of Xavier's school during the nighttime party was Alison Blaire aka Dazzler! In the comics, she's a pop star who's closeted as a mutant and exposed. The discrepancy between "X3" and "Dark Phoenix" regarding Jean's childhood is the result of this story taking place in the secondary timeline. This film should have been seen after the 1983-set "Apocalypse" and before the 2016-set "Deadpool" as it was set in 1992. Jean was protected from vacuum by a telekinetic shield. X-MEN TIMELINES: Egypt --> 1845 --> Nagasaki --> First Class --> DOFP --> Origins ------------------------------------------------> X1 --> X2 --> X3 --> Wolverine ----------> New Mutants ---------------> DOFP Utopia Egypt --> 1845 --> Nagasaki --> First Class --> DOFP ----------------> Apocalypse --> Dark Phoenix ------------------------------------------------> Deadpool --> Deadpool 2 -------------------> Logan Egypt --> 1845 --> Nagasaki --> First Class --> DOFP ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> DOFP Dystopia Do NOT watch the films in release order!!!!! 8:45 "so, she wasn't born with the Phoenix, it came now" Yeah, thats at least more comic accurate, however the conusing part now in this timeline is that she already showed the Phoenix in "X-Men Apocalypse", which makes no sense then, and it would have been more accurate to show that movie after this in that case. But VOX never cared really much about consistency.

You will need to think of this movie as a different alternate universe from other X-Men films. The movies where Raven was alive were one universe, this one where she isn't alive is a different universe (or alternate reality). If you rewatch some of the previous X-Men movies, you will see that Charles Xavier & Eric were older than this movie shown and her parents (both of them) were alive. Certain events remained the same, but there are some subtle differences between films that show the possibility that the "future" movies will not occur. As mentioned in some of the comments here, Days Of Future Past has changed some of the storylines (i.e.: Scott did not die, Jean did not die, etc.). As for the movie New Mutants, this is a movie very thinly connected to one of the Wolverine movies. I say thinly because only in the end credits is something mentioned (I won't say what) that connects these two movies. You do not need to see any of the marvel movies however before watching New Mutants, but it does help a little bit. To me, it is a movie you can freely miss, but if you are curious about the movie, or if you just want to watch all movies that are Marvel, then you should watch it. They do try to brand this movie as a horror movie.

As others have mentioned, we’re following the timeline established after Days of Future Past, where history was changed in 1972, creating a new timeline moving forward. Essentially, forget about the 2000s films; while similar events may have occurred, this is a different timeline with significant changes. For instance, Raven was killed in the 1990s, meaning she never appeared in the 2000s. We can assume Jean will return, as she, along with Scott, is shown alive at the end of Days of Future Past in the new future of 2023/2024. Timeline: X-Men: First Class - *1962* X-Men: Days of Future Past - *1973* X-Men: Apocalypse - *1983* X-Men: Dark Phoenix - *1993* Deadpool - *2016* Deadpool 2 - *2018* Days of Future Past Ending - *2023* Logan - 2029 We know nothing about events in between so we can assume there similar to the films just without Raven. X-Men: The Last Stand most likely never happens but maybe Jean does return as The Phoenix off screen for a while. But Wolverine will make his way to the school, so while characters like Rogue as well, Bobby and Rouge will still get together etc. But they'll still be changes in between.

I personally would recommend X-Men '97 over watching these later films. It's such a great animated series that does more justice to the X-Men than these movies ever did. Though I still love a few of the movies, Dark Phoenix is not one of them and the storyline is done so much better elsewhere. X-Men '97 is peak content if your looking for more X-Men.
