Yes! The autonomy over your body after having a baby is sooooo underrated! I never expected it to be an actual 24/7 every second of the day thing😅 not that I’m complaining I love being a mum but as an active person it’s so so hard when your baby wants to spend the entire day on the boob and you can’t do ANYTHING😃😃 Of course all babies are different and as long as the mum and baby are happy whatever way works best is the best way!

I was so ready to get my body back after having my baby and I didn't realize how demanding breastfeeding was going to be. So happy your baby takes a bottle mine never did and it was hard but it gets better!

I’m a new mom to a 4 week old so this was super helpful, Abby! Thank you! 💕🙌🏼 Do you have any recommendations on where you found these breastfeeding articles/info? I’m currently struggling with it a bit and would love to become more educated! Your tips were super helpful though I’m going to try the morning pumping idea and the every 2 hour idea as well for a few days🙌🏼💕

I just had my baby and I’m having problems to latch on, soreness and pain. Having a pump has saved my life, I don’t stress with that I have to breastfeed and suffer every time he cries. I feed him right away and he gets full and happy, and when my soreness gets better I can try breastfeeding again

One of the main reasons not to start pumping too early is that your body is still figuring out how much milk your baby needs. I started pumping early and wound up with a massive oversupply. Which is great because I've been able to donate but it definitely has its downsides.

Omg me too! The hospital told me to pump right from the beginning. I shouldn’t have listened. Now I can’t control this oversupply. So in the freezer it goes. Baby has eczema so I plan to create soap and lotion for him!

I exclusively Pump and honestly love it. Baby #1 I stressed my own self out with breastfeeding. The pump keeps me in a good spot mentally.

I started out only nursing and I was very against exclusively pumping. You can lose your supply doing this, and it’s so much work and less sustainable. I would pump occasionally when my baby would nap just to teach her to use a bottle and build up freezer supply. When my baby hit 4 months, my supply tanked due to hormonal shifts and my baby went on a month long nursing strike. The freezer supply was everything to me. It gave me peace of mind, and we went through it while I got my supply back up. Now my bb is 7 months, crazy and moving around. She only nurses early in the morning, and we are back to almost exclusively pumping. It’s good to have options. I always tell new moms to just try to get baby to latch because exclusively pumping is really hard and a lot of work and time. You may like nursing a lot more than you’d think, and the numbers of EP really got into my head.

THANK YOU for being honest about pumping! I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant and every mom gives me a dirty look when I tell them that I wanna start pumping to have a supply in the freezer and that I might not want to breastfeed for a whole year...for me it has to do with body autonomy and recovering from an eating disorder. I think breastfeeding will be hard for me because baby will be so dependent on exclusively myself for so long and I would like to be able to eventually get some of my old habits/routines back. Especially because we're planning for baby #2 when baby #1 is about 1-1/2 years old, it only gives me so much time not being pregnant or breastfeeding.

Body autonomy is not part of early motherhood lol U learn to put others first when they are needy (ie a baby up to 7 or 8 mos wants to be on momma mostly)

I’m exclusively pumping (not by choice 😅 baby made that decision for me). I can’t believe I’ve made it to 3 months. It felt so unsustainable initially. But now my supply is established, I’m down to 5-6 pumps a day and I’m hoping to donate my surplus to a milk bank ❤

Same thing happened to me with my baby. I think people try to scare you away from exclusively pumping because it is a lot of work, but if it’s important to you and your partner supports it, it can be so rewarding. I pumped for the whole first year and I am so glad I did. ❤ you are doing great!!

The same thing happened to me. I was able to get down to three pumping sessions a day and hands free pumps saved my sanity. Exclusively pumping is hard work! With the help of a lactation consultant I was able to reteach baby how to latch at five months and I based on my experience exclusively pumping was waaaayy harder.

Omg I needed to hear this. I have a 6 day old and I started pumping in the hospital because my supply was great but he’s tongue tied so the latch was hard and time consuming and I wanted to breastfeed only so bad but I have been exhausted to try for a latch for 20mims and then see him get frustrated and hungry so now I pump and we do a few latches a day but the rest is bottle and that it’s dad and mom feeding him! I felt so guilty initially that I couldn’t just breastfeed.

I just listened to a podcast about this and it’s probably the nipple of the bottle. Sometimes baby need nipples with fast or slow flow depending on how your breasts are. So try some different bottle nipples and maybe she will take a bottle !

Do the bottles have fresh milk or has it been previously frozen? I know some mamas whose milk is high in lipase which can give the milk a soapy taste once it's been frozen and thawed which can cause babies to reject the bottle.

@@michelleowens810 my daughter refused the bottle with frozen breast milk because thawed it tasted nasty because it was high in lipase. When I pumped fresh milk and gave that in a bottle, she started taking a bottle

@@lenaloewen9595 I haven't tried this personally, but I've heard that if you add alcohol free vanilla it gets rid of the soapy taste and most babies will drink it.

Awe you’ll get it. It’s scary but I promise most comes from instinct. Just get to know your baby. Everything else will come. Do not listen to other mothers please. U know your baby more than anyone else. Ppl would yell I didn’t put socks under my baby’s sleepers wen I was first time mom at 21 but my baby was so hot she’d have melted if I did that. So you will know. Also remember your mental health. If u need help ask:) congrats and much love and luck sending your way

You may want to consider power pumping on the side that is smaller. Also, look into the exclusive pumping group on Facebook. It's been a huge help. I'm going on 13 months of exclusive pumping.
