Not even sure how I stumbled upon this video, but really felt like I should comment :) I did my entire healthcare career, almost 20 years, at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Over those years I've heard cancer story after cancer story after cancer story. Just wanted to say that this is one of the most well spoken, "real", and articulate narratives of an experience I've seen. So well done, genuine, and heartfelt - all with such an amazing attitude and perspective. I'm sure you know how incredibly lucky you are to have the partner you do to be there through it all - that can be such a make or break component. Your comment about not being able to "unsee, or unhear" what you've seen and heard is spot on - it changes you forever. Congrats on your success, and best of luck!

Scott my heart goes out to you. I haven't gone through what you have, but, I'm now 73 and I ended up with a lump on my testicle and thought the worst. Turned out I had a cyst and it's about the size of 1/2 my testicle. Now I'm noticing my other one starting out similar. Down the road I got a urinary infection and when they did blood work told me I had a psa level of 17 and should be 5 or 6. I was sent to the Cancer Clinic. Scary shit, then I was scheduled for my day there to be tested and then a month before I got a reply and I finally found out, "you are cancer free." I was married, divorced and came out 28 yrs. ago so yes, I am family. I have been through more as well. I wish you all the best and I heart goes out to you both, Scott & Mike. I've had no one for support and yes, it makes you a stronger person.

I was diagnosed with lymphoma in August 2013 & went through 6 months of chemo @ the local VA hospital. On 9/9/99 they removed my prostate for prostate cancer. 21 years later in 2020 the cancer returned. They are now treating it with hormone therapy. I get a hormone shot every 6 months. The hormone shot does not kill the cancer, it just slows the growth. I was also diagnosed with HIV+ in 2011. My latest T-cell count was 1009 which is fantastic & my viral load is undetectable. Stay positive & keep fighting!!!

Wow, I felt everything you described. My cancer was a little different, I have skin cancer. For the 1st couple of years my skin specialist would tell me that the spots on my face were age spots. They looked like old bruises to me but wouldn't go away. But him telling me they were age spots I nothing of them but I keep watching them change. And old site where he had frozen Basal cell came back. This time I would have to have it surgically removed and so before referring me to another skin site where the surgery could be done, and in North Carolina there are only two clinics that do this surgery. The bruises were Melanomas. I felt your fear I will never forget, everything I read said that Melanomas left untreated could metastasize, and these had been there for at less 2 years. I have this huge hole on my forhead that stayed open for 3 months. I was so petrified. In the mean time surgeries continue on my face. To break the silence we, Nurses, doctor, and I would joke about my carved face. This far I have had 17 surgeries to remove cancer. Now I have to return to this clinic for examinations for skin cancer and everytime they find a new one. So for going on and on. Before this I had never had so much as a stitch, now everyday I face all the skin grafts and scars. No one really understands unless they been there.

omg. was heartbroken to hear your story. Feb in Calgary, we got the shock of our lives. My sister had a sudden seizure and found out she had a mass which turned out to be brain cancer. She had been through so much in her life with having 2 kidney transplants and even surviving through another deadly virus. With Covid, things were just much harder. So much piled up over the last few years it felt like hit rock bottom. The Kemo treatments have been working as they cannot do surgery to remove it. She still has many more weeks left of treatment. The next one is the big one and she will be in hospital for couple of weeks as this one kills all cells including any vaccine you have gotten since birth so you are completely vulnerable to anything. Also, with her having a kidney transplant and on anti-rejection meds, it just makes the treatment that much more dangerous and has to be monitored daily so can take corrective action quickly as needed to make sure it doesn't attack the kidney. Yes, it was so hard as she has been through so much but we were always allowed in the hospital there to help her through it. Cause of Covid, this was the first time she had to go in by herself and no one there to be by her side. That affects a person much more mentally.

This just came up in my feed for some reason. I watched it when it first came out but decided to watch it again tonight. I lost my oldest sister to cancer 5 months ago and I know what she went through. It took 1.5 years to kill her. She started with lung cancer and it moved to her brain. I am so glad that everything is going well for you as far as the cancer is going. I hope it never comes back and you and Mike have a long happy life together! I don't know how long I have been following you here and on twitter but I knew that every time I saw pictures of you two together that you belonged together as husbands (and would once in a while say so, lol)

I've been going through the experience of.. Loving a best friend who's dealing with severe depression As you could imagine, he all of a sudden went silent and didn't talk to me or tell me what was wrong with him at all, he kept pushing me away Said stuff like "I don't wanna be your friend!" "Go away!" "leave me alone" I didn't get mad at him as much as I got worried.. I went over to his place and met him.. I cried there and asked desperately why he was pushing me away so hard.. Why he was harsh on me.. What've I done to deserve this He hugged me very tightly and said he's sorry.. It felt like his depression disappeared all out of a sudden just like it appeared all out of a sudden.. He explained that he easily get irritated and angry and the smaller and stupidest things ANY human does and he simply can't tolerate it, he said that he can't handle anybody's emotions or needs, he said that he doesn't want to see me or talk to me because I'm very important to him that he's afraid he would get angry at me and literally cut me off completely.. The next few days I started trying to reach out and ask how he's doing.. I started apologising for pressuring him and even got him his favourite snacks and drink and had a fun night at his place He said he's grateful but didn't feel grateful, that his depression was standing in the way.. And begged me not to talk to him again I admit.. I made the mistake of taking it personal and got angry with him and I snapped.. I bursted to his house and demanded that we meet I talked about how hurt I was that he kept pushing me away and treating me like garbage, talked about how much it hurt me when I expected him to be there for the most important events in my life but he never even cared.. I talked about how annoyed I was he still thinks I'm gay because I told him I thought I was like 2 years ago and then took my time to reconsider and finally decided I was not gay.. He didn't seem to take that in He said something like "since I was born I've lost faith in all humanity except for one.. And that was you.. Ramez, for the last time I'm depressed and I can't handle you.. And I can't feel emotions right now... Stay away from me." I said fine and asked him if it's okey if I come to visit or say hi sometimes.. He said no, it has to be him to come and say hi when he feels better or feels like changing.. I haven't talked to him for a few days, just sharing memes with him and laughing about it, nothing else.. I miss him so much and I'm dead worried about him And I can't forgive myself for making so many mistakes... I didn't give him the thing which he most needed and that was caring... I mean, I did care but I pushed it too far and forced him outside his comfort zone... I wish my story helped anyone out there dealing with someone they love who is depressed... Don't leave them but don't force being there for them They still love you and appreciate your presence in their lives.. They just need time just like Mike here needed to endure 6 months without his boyfriend..

Thanks for sharing. It reminded me a lot of my year with cancer surgery & (in my case) 6 weeks of radiation treatment. I was lucky in that I didn’t do it during a pandemic, but my 3 weeks in the hospital was really isolating... so I can imagine how it was worse during a pandemic (although my week in the ICU, I couldn’t have visitors.) I think I grew personally with mine, it sounds like you have as well. (Fantastic that your partner was so supportive, that helped me enormously too.) 7 years out I can say: it gets better.

First let me say that I am glad that you are doing well despite having cancer you seem to be in good spirits which can have a real impact on your recovery. I hope that things continue to get better. It must have been hard for Mike who wasn't able to be with you during treatment because of covid, however, reducing the risk of infection with cancer patients who's immune system is very low could have very bad and negative consequences to say the least. It is also brave to post your story I am sure you have felt vulnerable and questioning your life and putting it on a social platform. People need to understand that testicular cancer though rare, can and does happen to people, and a simple self check can mean good vs bad prognosis if guys ignore it for months and by then it could have spread and have a worse outcome. You are healthy, eat right, don't party that much except the time you accidentally roofied youself with the desert edibles lol. Stay strong, be positive, continue to love each other and I believe that you with have both quality and quanity of life to put all of this behind you and live your best life ever.

I was diagnosed with colon cancer at 36 (now 38) and had surgery and have gone though 25 rounds of chemo (definitely relate to the chemo brain, change in taste, constant nausea, etc). Unfortunately mine spread later on to my liver and stomach lining so I'll be on chemo for the rest of my life. The biggest thing I remember that keeps me going is that it could always be worse. I'm very fortunate that it wasn't worse and if you think about the fact that KIDS get cancer, it makes me strong enough to face reality and be thankful for everything that I do have because it could definitely be worse. Best of luck to you, and thank you so much for sharing your story! Really proud of you for going through this with such a great attitude and very glad you have such a great support system!

Cancer had hit my family hard. My grandma was a fighter, but she had succumbed to it and had passed away. She was given three months, but she had kept fighting it as long as she could. I know the mental and physical drain it does take on a person. I am really happy that you had beat cancer and are keeping positive. Best wishes to you! I am really happy for the both of you and glad you guys are doing much better.

OMG Scotty I am so devastated to hear all this. I thought I had it rough when I watched my baby get put under to have his wisdom teeth removed. I can't even imagine this, I'm so sorry! And that goes for you too Mike, thank God you came into his life and was able to support him through this horrific time. Best of wishes and prayers to both of yous!!!

Oh Scotty and Mike-what a nightmare you’ve been through. As a counselor myself, continue to check in with yourselves because there may be lasting trauma and something may trigger you when you least expect it. Stay in touch with your therapist even just an occasional check-in to have that outlet! Self-care is so important now more than ever. I love your journey as a couple and love how you both love each other. True inspirations. Be well and take care of each other!! 😘😘
