I agree with raised feeders. Something I do is use apple cider vinegar in my chickens water. It does a lot of good for them. I hope this helps. I'm so sorry that this is happening but we know you will get thru this. Praying for you, your family, n your babies.

Stock up on any antibiotics you use for your animals, as of June 11th they will no longer be over the counter for animals, everything will require a vet script. Elector PSP, is a fantastic one and done pest treatment for chickens and coops.

Hi Rachael, I know you may already know this but I wanted to recommend another thing that might help as well. Your doing a good job with everything your doing! I wanted to maybe recommend the hanging feeders. Even using those black plastic bowls to prop them up. Just to get them off the ground. It will also help keep the droppings out of the feed. Now, your chickens may not have been the cause of the spread of virus. Raccoons can spread coccidia and other wild life as well. The hanging feeders will also still allow you to keep extra feed for them as well. Chewy has a good poultry feeder with little legs with a lid that goes on top. I ordered one for my pigeons because they would jump in the feeders and poop in their. Lol I also used a clip to keep the lid from coming off. It works good. It even has the little dividers to prevent feed waste. Little giant has the feeders with the slots as well. But doesn’t come with the lid. McMurray and Strombergs carry the lids to keep the chickens out of there.

EPM is contracted by horses which have eaten feed soiled by vermin but more specifically raccoons. Off the floor feeders and watering are key in prevention of contracting transmittable disease and infections of that nature. So sad to be losing your sweet babies 😢. It’s heartbreaking xx

Life on a small “farm” is tough. I have chickens, goats, horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, and a donkey, and my chickens are the most vulnerable. Mine are free range, they are let out of their coup every morning, and the biggest threat to them has been the coyotes, which has been solved by taking my dogs for walks around the edge of my property, letting them mark it up (you know what I mean). I haven’t encountered sickness yet, thankfully. It looks like you are doing everything you can to fix this problem. I wish you the best. Edited to ask if you feed them some of their own eggs?? It is so good for them and they love it! Shells included.

I'm sorry you're losing your young chickens . I don't give my chicks / chickens medicated feed, but I do give electrolytes and probiotics when they hatch and so far I haven't lost any to sickness only to predators. I wish you all the luck in the world and pray you don't loose anymore babies. Hope you feel better soon and that you have a great rest of the month and beyond.

Aw, Rachel! Life is a challenge and no fooling! You've taken on a lot with your property and your many projects. There is no way you're going to carry the responsibilities you've taken on without feeling overwhelmed. You can't push yourself to grow as hard as you do without finding yourself feeling close to the edge. Take a minute to reflect on all you are accomplishing and pat yourself on the back for working so hard. The "working smart" part will come with experience. If it was easy, you'd be bored and wouldn't have any reason to be proud of yourself. Keep going. Keep learning. Keep sharing. You're doing great!!! (Happy Birthday to Savannah - Congratulations on your wonderful daughter turning 18)!!!

Sorry you are having a tough time sending kindness. When at tractor supplies get some shoe covers to wear in the chicken coops coccidiosis can spread on your shoes dispose of covers after single use. And also sterilise all equipment shovels etc used for cleaning. Garden wise if you grow carrots put in tall raised planter to avoid carrot fly. I would do salad in one bed potatoes in one bed don’t forget that pots need earthing up so actually you may want to do them in a sack from tractor supplies onions beetroot leeks in one bed and leafy green veg in another bed.

You can't just treat chickens. You need to clean, really sterilize, the coop. Take it down to bare wood and scrub with something strong. You can lose the next batch too if you do not sterilize thoroughly enough. It's a lot of work but you need to really clean it completely. Are these chickens exposed to wild birds? Furthermore, dogs can have coccidia too so you don't want to get them infected. Is your hay clean? If all you chicken raisers are using contaminated hay from the same source you could all buy the same stuff and get the coccidia from the same source. Some folks try to source organic clean hay. It's expensive but a private farmer might be a good source. Remember I suggested that the way you water your chickens in a huge tub could contaminate their water? I still think that cleaning the waterers with a brush daily and providing clean water daily is better animal husbandry. It's more work but they don't drink poopy water and the whole flock gets sick. Finally, don't track coccidia from chickens to house or dogs. Your parrots can get it from contaminated hands or hands removing outdoor shoes then not washing thoroughly. That's how you control spread of bird flu too. Where I live the house sparrows are missing this year. I miss them in the trees outside my balcony. Bird flu? They just aren't here and I had them every year for 17 years. But I did have a squirrel dig up all my nasturtium seeds and eat them TWICE ! I only have 3 plants left out of 20 seeds. As for the garden, I'd make hilled rows in there but it's not necessary. But I'd plant in straight rows. Weeding is easier to hoe that way. I'd try to put tall things all together and where they won't shade shorter things. Next year buy some metal T-posts and a driver and zip tie panels to them. Put spring peas up on those and make sure where you locate them is not going to shade carrots, etc. In summer after peas are done try greeen beans in the same place tied up to the cattle panels or tomatoes. You put dirt right over grass so weeds will be a problem this year. Water and fertilize. Do you have drip watering lines in there? If not, it's going to take some watering in hot and dry spells. Water at dusk or dawn because water on leaves can burn them. I have that problem where I live. Summer heat kills stuff if I don't watch the soil moisture. Some times I have to water twice daily because my plants are in pots. Also, you might need some row cover to keep out insects and bunnies or deer. Your deep chicken bedding will turn into valuable organic food for your plants if you properly compost it after you clean out the coops. You have small beds so do not plant melons, potatoes, or squash for summer. They take up more room. In spring try peas, carrots and things like onions you can plant pretty close. For summer the same. In fall don't forget garlic. Herbs are nice to grow, but then I cook alot so I love growing and drying herbs, but I don't have sun this time of year.

From what I know about coccidia most cleaning solutions do not kill it. One of the best ways is using steam or ammonia. Sunlight can work too but it's a little risky when trying to 100% clear it all out. Sending prayers to you and the others as you battle this coccidia issue. Also if possible make sure to clean your shoes because it can track it around. It's a very pesky thing to deal with 😔

It might be worth worming them, especially due to them being confined in runs. I live in the UK and worm quarterly with premixed Flubenvet Pellets due to bird flu and being confined for 5-6 months.

I just had a turkey that had it. She would not eat or drink and I started force feeding her chicken broth to keep her strong since at the time I did not know what was wrong with her. Please give them bone broth, homemade if you have it and within giving her some within 2 days she was eating and drinking again. I gave her corid 2 times as a drench. 0.1 ml per pound drawn up in syringe and shot down their throat but I swear by the chicken bone broth.

Also, what kind of wood planks did you use for the raised garden beds? Rn, I have a 5ft hydroponic system and im growing various lettuce 😂. It's very simple to use, you can have it indoors or outside, and gets great results but not all vegetables can grow this way.

Regarding the garden you ll learn more from just trying stuff and observing success or failure. I started last year and I liked some things and didn't like others. And I took my idea from that. Also I m really high energy, my mind and body are very busy all day but I enjoy just spending 5min to look at my seedlings now. It brings my mind peace. Or watching my dogs chill out with my chickens. I hope you feel better soon

@@Jamesriverpockets as far as your garden is concerned: weed out the outer edges of the barriers: plants are super invasive depending on what you have. Most of your early veggies do well in the sun 🥒 cucumber run crazy on fence lines(you can use chicken wire or stakes to keep them pinned up) same with pepper 🫑, 🌶️ chill peppers, 🍅 tomatoes, squash, 🍈 honeydew, 🍉 watermelon, raspberry, grapes 🍇, blueberry 🫐, strawberry 🍓 these all do fine together or apart.. Your big monsters like 🥬 lettuce, cabbage 🥬,onion 🧅, asparagus, spinach, collards, greens they need rows of space(5-6 inches easy) to spread out, they need fertilizer more than anything(along with cutting back from time to time) a good vitamin compost and you probably know this(egg shells, banana pills, etc) shells are a form of calcium and yes they love this stuff 😔🙏🏼
