I was 14 years old when I sold my collection, 15 figures, castle greyskull, and 3 vehicles. Wish I could go back in time and stop myself. I am, however, enjoying collecting and introducing my 9 year old son to the new origins line of motu🙂

I had the exact same moment growing up; thinking it was time to give away my toys and grow up. The joy of collecting origins has been getting mint versions of the toys I used to have growing up. Congrats on the book release, Dan. Can't wait for it to show up!

I kept all my MOTU figures as much as I could, what I lost of my childhood collection was due to my family throwing stuff out. I can still remember that Mosquitor and Clamp Champ were the last figures I got for Christmas as a kid. That Mosquitor ended up being the only figure I never put away, along with the T-Rex and Bionatops.

I'm so glad I kept all my (and my brother's 😉) childhood MotU figures. I sold most of my action figures - from when I was a kid AND an adult - about 3 years ago... but I kept the vintage He-Mans! 😀

Your videos were of the reasons I never went through that "I'm too old for toys" phase, so thank you for that. I still have all my childhood TMNT Power Sound FX figures from 2012. They were the first action figure line I ever collected, and your review on Power Sound FX Leo and Raph was the first video of yours I ever watched.

My mom gave all my figures away - I started out with my very first ever action figure, Thunder Punch He-Man (can't WAIT for the Origins version and praying they do vac-metal) and then followed that up the following X-Mas with Battle Armor Skeletor, Rattlor, and King Randor. My only vehicle was the Land Shark, but what a great one! Later on, my brother and I picked up two 2nd hand store figures in baggies which were Trap-Jaw (not attachments) for me and Stratos for him, who did have his backpack at least, but no wings. Together they formed my small but mighty collection of MOTU and we loved taking the armor off Randor. I can't believe how expensive he is now and we had ALL their accessories of the original guys, even Randor's crown, staff and cape. I'm so bummed to this day that my originals didn't stay with me, because we did take good care of them. However, my mom went back and repurchased all of those characters before the eBay gluttony of the 2010s and I was able to have my collection back. She even got me Castle Grayskull which was so cool as we never had it. I've since gotten addicted to buying back my childhood collections on eBay and she blames herself haha. Anyhow, great to hear of your own personal collection Dan, I think we can all relate!

I wish I had even a Single one of my Figures. My Parents were always selling or throwing away stuff "You don't play with those anymore". Same with my old Video Games. Fortunately, I was at least able to keep my Game Boy Games, because they didnt took away much space and were easy to hide. Those are very special to me, so I can totally understand why you keep even the destroyed Figure. These small Pieces of Plastic help us to remember those carefree childhood days once more.

You know, after checking out all your MotU videos over the past several months, now I’m not so certain I had a lot of the figures toward the end of the line. I too pretty much had almost everything growing up, and I think it wasn’t until high school that I sold my entire collection to get a Super NES. Like, I know for certain I had Gwildor, King Randor, Sorceress and all of the Meteorbs, but I can’t really recall if I even had Ninjor, Saurod or Blade. I’m almost positive I did not have Rotar and Twistoid. I never even had an “original” He-Man because when I started collecting, my parents could only find BA He-Man and after it broke they got me Thunder Punch He-Man. Their rule was I only needed one version of each character, which I can understand. And forget the Eternia playset, that was never gonna happen, lol! I do remember very clearly one Christmas morning (probably ‘86 because my sister would’ve barely been over a week old), I think my parents got me the Horde Trooper and I remember feeling like, “This is nice but I didn’t really need it.” Not that I didn’t appreciate it or anything, but I guess the excitement of playing with toys was starting to fade as I got closer to adolescence. That was the beginning of the end for me. Now of course I wish I had kept my collection because my son would have had a ton of almost pristine toys to play with in a few years! At least we’ve got Origins... 🙂

I had the whole collection when i was younger, the vehicles, the heroes, villians, and just like you i got rid of my toys once i turned 13. I wish i did keep all of them, i would go back in time and keep everything. Smh. This video definitely brought back that nostalgia for me, thank you. 🙏🏽🙏🏽

As a little kid, I was extremely careful with keeping my toys in really nice condition and complete. I never owned MOTU figures because my parents thought it was a little too mature for me (I'm an '82 baby). I kept all my TMNT figures and handed them down to my son. However, I did go through that same phase in my life where I thought I was too old for some of my childhood toys and games and I ended up giving a lot of it away. My biggest regret is giving away, throwing away and selling a TON of my vintage videogames when I was in college back in 2002. I sold my boxed copy of Mega Man X3 to Funcoland for Mystical Ninja: Staring Goemon, I gave away my copy of E.V.O., I threw away all my NES, SNES, Gameboy, Virtual Boy and N64 boxes and manuals, and about 10 years ago I sold my entire, extensive SNES RPG library and my entire Virtual Boy library all for $400 because I needed the cash at the time. By my estimate, I foolishly lost around $5k worth of gaming items . I've never tried to buy it all back because I have other expenses I have to prioritize, so I'm just happy to have the NES and SNES Classics (which I've modded. Sshh...don't tell). However, I did start collecting MOTU a few years back and I'm close to completing the vintage line.

Everytime I have a video of yours that I decide is my favorite, you make another that takes it's place. Thanks for sharing this Dan. I remember a toy collector from when I was a kid, the first adult I'd met that collected and sold toys, (Supercar, Lone Ranger, Battlestar Galactica stuff like that), this was at a small sci fi convention. I asked if the toys were new, and he said some of what he had was, but most, especially the ones he still owned from his childhood, were covered in "Marks of Memories". I got to see a Buck Rogers tin ray gun, and all kinds of stuff, that made my fascination with toys just explode into an obsession. As I got older, my parents were the kind that didn't get rid of anything, EVERYTHING went into storage at some point, and though I only had 11 figures from MOTU, including Panthor and Snake Mountain, I still to this day, have them all. Some better or worse, depending on if they ended up in a basement, or our in a hot storage shed. I was pretty lucky on that part, and when I was in high school was the time I didn't really like my toys (too busy trying to be cool, I never was), but by the time I got to college, and I found other people that were into similar hobbies, toy collecting came to the forefront again, and now a large amount of my collection is on display in my art studio, it's my happy place. :) It's completely evident how much toys mean to you, just in the way you describe and look upon those old figures of yours. That's just so dang cool man. Thanks again for making this video!

This really hit home. My parents were wonderful to me a Christmas time....Only thing was when I wanted to collect another toy line...I had to sell my current toy line at a garage sale (Example: I wanted to collect all of the M.A.S.K. toys....then I had to sell my MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE toys....) So that's what I did year after year...would give anything to have my original collection back. But, when you are young (especially back in the day) you never thought you'd one day want those toys back.

I sold all my motu toys to buy the Rhino truck from M.A.S.K. when I was a kid. Now as an adult I feel deeply ashamed of it. The fantasy world of motu is so much more awesome than the boring car world of M.A.S.K..

Glad you still saved your favorites. I had a decent collection too as a kid (although much more on the TMNT side), and it got handed down to my brother. I still have 95% of my vintage collection that I had when I wsa a kid. There are a few figures and vehicles that i lost or were broken over time, but I kept them all. The reason being is I thought maybe when I grew up and had kids maybe they'd like to play with them. Fast forward many years they did like to play with them a bit, but didn't love them like i did. I"m still glad I kept them and if I can find figures on the cheap that I don't havve or lost I'll buy them to fill out the collection.

By some coincidence, today I managed to reaquire my vintage Panthor back. Just like you I achieved an age that I saw those toys an thinked that they should be loved by other kids. What a HUGE mistake! I gave my MOTU figures to a younger cousin and he just destroyed the toys, unfortunately. (He-Man, Skeletor, Battle Cat, Panthor, Ram Man, Tri-Klops and a Wind Raider) That Panthor is in pretty bad shape but I am glad that it is back with me.

I remember the day we moved from our apartment and I did one last walkthrough, and saw a pile of toys in my room that were going to stay behind, me thinking I didn't need them anymore. I wonder though, if I had kept all those toys, would I still have a nostalgic feeling toward those toys. I think part of it is losing what you once loved and needing to go through the journey of finding them again.

My mom couldn't afford to buy me any Master of the universe when I was a child, but, when I graduated from fifth grade, my beloved Mom surprised me with non other than Fisto and to top it all off, Fisto was in the same package with his trusted mechanical steed Stridor. My aunt helped her to get that graduation gift for me. I think I was so overjoyed that day that I shed a couple of tears. Lol. I knew how hard my Mom struggled to give us a good life and to do that for me is something that I'll never forget. That's why Fisto & Stridor are dear to my heart. My queen likes Roboto so, it is very important for me as well. ❤

that spinny shield he-man is pretty snazzy, not gonna lie. as much as i appreciate simplicity of design, he-man does do pretty well with an accessory that DOES something and a shield makes enough sense for him to have. the armour also looks good. as iconic as the barechested harness is, he does wear a simple piece of shiny armour very well. it doesn't detract from who he is and gives some variety and freshness. it would be pretty cool if they made an origins version of this. i have no MOTU toys from my childhood at all. i was born in 87, so while tapes of the show were still around in the 90's i was a little late for the big craze. i do remember reading some comics and playing with one or two at a friend's place.

On a side note..i think many of us had things that were thrown out by our moms or sold at front yard sales not knowing much. Whats pretty valuable now are the 1984 or 1985 Garbage Pail Kids cards. I collected them like crazyyy back then and now their Really expensive from that era. I think they were thrown since i cant remember but they were something i never forgot buying after school just about everyday for a quarter

You should collab with Toy Polloi on fixing your Saurod figure. I'm sure he'd take good care of it.

The only toys of mine that got sold off back in the day were my Panache Place Voltron figures, which I rebought and my M.A.S.K. toys, which I was only able to save Scott and T-Bob. I’ve have a couple of Transformers lost or broken, but not sold. Yes, I bought that book from Amazon. It is a beast!

If it had been a "These Are the Top 5 MOTU Figures of the Vintage Line", then yes, I would imagine those choices may have seemed rather random. Not so much when you look at what you went on to do years later. I don't think many familiar with your channel are scratching their heads at the choices. A lot of those features still appear to carry over to your modern collecting. Even the Ninjor choice makes sense with that background info. If you were creating characters at the time, of course you would want them in fivepointfive. Though it may have been one of those regretful situations, it's almost like taking those ones aside revealed what would continue later.

I have not met you yet Dan, but will someday soon at an upcoming powercon! - wanted to share with MOTU Classics, I would only open my items when your review was up, so that I could sort of enjoy that process to the well thought out overviews. I am doing the same thing with Origins! I don't open them until Dan's vid is out! With that, super proud of ya on the book, put my order in within literally 5 mins of it being available, and wanted to share vids like this are awesome bud, please keep up the good work!

Yup, I got rid of my old toys from many lines, He-Man, TMNT, etc. when I was a young lad. However, I have just one piece of my He-Man collection from my childhood, and it's Hordak. I have no story on how or why it survived and remains in my possession, can't remember. It can hardly stand up on it's own though and lost all accessories.

Mean while I kept everything from My childhood. My Turtles, Transformers everything Meant more to me then anything else.I remember too Back then late around 90. I been finding g1 transformers I never had before. I got great deals on them at flea markets. Plus turtles I still bought at the time also ninjor. That was before the power rangers character ninjor in 95. Funny thing too He was only shown one season. Never mentioned again. In high school I was even getting stuff Off my classmates They were spring cleaning. One guy gave me free Grapple, Mindwipe, & the autobot tapes 4 of them. Complete free. Yes it pays to get stuff like that back in the 90's When not a lot were collecting. Prices were decent & low too. Also that last figure you mentioned? Is it the Dreaded gold plastic syndrome? That is what it is called in the transformers fandom few figures suffers from that too. I even had a Power rangers zeo monster drill master. Couple years ago he fell off top of the shelf &he shattered into Many pieces hitting the floor. I think that is what is happenening to your last guy There & it looks like the dreaded gold plastic.

When I was a kid, my older brother owned all the Heroes, I owned Skeletor and his minions and my little brother had the Horde. When they decided to sell their figures, I had to buy them from them (I made a good deal)! Only to sell them myself a few years later. Towards the end, I realised that I was doing something really stupid. But too late. Only Teela, Zoar, Sorceress, Battle Cat, Panthor, Zodac, Makaneck and some broken Figures were left. I swore to never do something this stupid again and never sold a single figure of the next big craze: TMNT! I even bought all of my friends' figures when they gave up on playing with them.

Same story but with G.I. Joes, from the OG 13 from '82 thru all new characters til about '87-'88, including most of all the vehicles and playsets, everything for about a $100.00 dlls., something i still regret, now i tell my kids to appreciate and take care of their toys, and not to mess with mine :) ... Take care and be well, cheers! :)

My castle grayskull and snake mountain ended up being given away but ended up back in my collection when my stepfather passed away.. he ended up taking them from my grandparents house at some point and i bought stuff to complete grayskull as my stepfathers and when i showed her she let me know it was my original. unfortunately snake mountain needs half replaced and the purple is so different than any ive seen... so i cant really get my original back to 100% most of my figures went to my nephew and have since disappeared but in the end he has memories of he-man figures now too and battle armor skeletor was his favorite toy
