You'd think a man who's owned his own business for all those years would have made a better decision.

Wait for the business to start failing, then buy it from your brother for practically nothing it’s worth and revive it to its former glory under the combined name of your current and father’s business or rename the current to the family business.

It's so much work to bring a brand back that was damaged by mismanagement!

"ungrateful for what he has"? no. upset for having years of his work being taken away, negated

This was always going to happen. The brother had probably been pressuring the dad to give him the company for years. The fact so many left to go with Op shows how much the brother effed things up. That they can't run the company. The dad also probably gave it to the brother because they have a family and op wasn't married yet. You know the mom probably also had a hand in it. The fact the dad can't look op in the eye and keeps saying bs is so dumb. Did he think op would just throw money away to make brother happy. Now, brother can go unto debt for a sinking ship.

I was the child coming to help with Mom (dementia) and dad after she passed. Dad was leaving a substantial amount extra to older brother. He said it was because he ruined brother’s life ⁉️🤔 He ruined my brother’s life by having me 😢

Your family did this to themselves. STOP trying to make nice with them and move on already.

Sounds to me like a classic case of soft men make hard times, hard times make tough men. The dad was weak and ran the business off his heart, and it screwed them over

Brother is the epitomy of entitled Uni thinking. He jniws nothing about the family business and nothing about plumbing, but he thinks he can run rough shot over his brother and collect the profits. Dad was an idiot for what he did and I hope OP hands his business to his son's one day, after they become plumbers. Never count on your dad when you have a brother.

So in a single day he talked with his dad, secured multiple contracts, stole 3 certified employees from his dad, AND THEN went for a diner with all the family present ?
