RECIPE:
"Beginner Chia Seed Drink"

1 cup filtered water
3 Tbs. chia seeds
1 cup of your favorite juice (I like this Santa Cruz Organic Orange Mango)
STEPS:
1. Add 3 Tbs. chia seeds to 1 cup filtered water.I like to use a mason jar for storing this drink because
it's easy to make/shake/and drink with.
2. Now put the lid on and shake it up.
3. Now it's time to wait. I usually wait at least 20-30 minutes, but you could wait several hours or even overnight. This allows the chia seeds to soak up the water and form a gel-like texture.
4. Next add 1 cup of your favorite juice.
5. Shake it up and drink!
"Advanced Chia Seed Drink"
2 cups filtered water
3 Tbs. chia seeds
1 lemon juiced
1 Tbs. agave nectar or maple syrup
STEPS: (similar to the steps listed above):
1. Pour 2 cups of water into the mason jar, followed by 3 Tbs. chia seeds.
2. Then close the lid and shake to mix it up.
3. Allow the chia seeds to sit for 20-30 minutes or longer, you could do a couple of hours or even overnight. They will have then formed a gel about like this.
4. Now add the juice of one lemon and 1 Tbs. of maple syrup or your favorite liquid sweetener.
5. Give it another good shake and then drink up! It will taste similar to a natural lemonade...with chia seeds!

i take chia seeds with coconut water, honey, and lemon juice twice everyday on empty stomach to treat my constipation.. works like a charm.. taste great too!

I grind my chia, 2 tablespoons of them into water or cold Kapha tea with 20-30 other supefoods/herbs...and I drink it directly after mixing them before the seeds expand...my superhealthy Breakfast since some years!

Yep, you're right, water does help with the movement of everything you put in your stomach. But we have referred only to chia's anti constipation properties here :)

Cheers Ashley I tried using my favourite pressed apple juice and I love it thanks again it's great for a pre gym boost which at my age I need big time. I make Date,Chia and Coconut bars ( not much Coconut just enough for the oil to bind the dates and Chias ) which are just zuzzed in a processor and fridge set but as they use non soaked seeds it's much slower release than your drink which is why I only use them as a between meal snack.

I find that if you mix the chia seed in the water with a hand-blender for about 1 minute, you get a much thicker drink, using less seed.

I have a hot/cold water cooler,and I use the hot water instead of the cold water and the chia seeds instantly gel up,no waiting.

Aww thanks Carrie! I wish I could post more often, but between my full time teaching jobs and my girls it gets hard. Luckily summer break is coming up so that should make way for more time for KZbin! I wish I knew more green youtubers but I often watch other things on youtube like my favorite artists or inspiring people/subjects (aka MarieTV). ( : Thanks for the video ideas as well!

Thanks for a great idea. Actually chia seeds are the star, so as long as they are drunk, the purpose will be served. If I grind them, I do so with flax which are larger, and chia seeds will grind by themselves--they do for me. But why? They dissolve unlike flax. Also a flax ground drink would work just as well, so we got a second idea from your video, which rarely happens while watching videos!!!! I'm with Ashley: use the juice idea. Or lemon for the hardy.

I grind up my chia seeds in a coffee grinder (do the same w/flax seed) so I have a powder & put that in my smoothies. I also add coconut oil, turmeric, ginger with either protein powder or green ingredients. Works really well for inflammation on my joints.

For a simple, cold drink, I would add 1-2 Tbsp of honey with 1/2 cup warm water (to dissolve honey) to my already plumped up chia seeds (2 Tbsp) and then add ice. Optional: to enhance the drink flavor, add 3 drops of banana extract.

Smoothie i make 5 days a week: 1 cup hemp milk, 2 brazil nuts, 2 bananas, (sometimes i add raspberries or blueberries when i have them) 3 tbsp of presoaked chia seeds, 3 tbsp of raw shelled hemp seeds, 2 tbsp on hemp protein powder, 1 and a half tbsp of raw cacao powder 1 tbsp coconut oil. occasionally i will add a frozen wheat grass shot when i have them. or a scoop of peanut butter for more protein. this smoothie boosts my protein intake for the day, fills me up, and boosts my energy and i feel happier

I usually like mixing it with some black tea I usually like it cold so I leave it in the fridge for a bit while the chia seeds soak up the tea. It's so yummy :)

Thanks for the recipes, Ashley! Love your videos. I'm working my through a list of good habits. I have incorporated oil pulling, water with lemon, and dry brushing; as well as limiting processed foods and aiming for 51 to 90% raw fruits and veggies at each meal. My boyfriend has even made these changes with me. We are exercising even more, now that the weather is warming up. Thank you so much for the information and inspiration!

I make the 2nd one but I soak my chia over night add lemon and honey and blend it.. Taste is good drink it first thing on mornings.. I may try it without blending it and see it i like it

Yeah I've been wanting to try a chia pudding recipe...do you mind sharing the one you use? And yes, I love those Mama Chia drinks too but they are so expensive, that's what led me to wanting to make my own, I knew it couldn't be that hard and plus it helps save some money. ( :

Definitely! I like 1/4 cup chia seeds : 1 cup almond or coconut milk (I use unsweetened and sweeten myself). Let it sit, then add a dash of vanilla and a pinch of stevia or honey (maple syrup for vegan). You can blend it, or eat it this way. I like it with berries! I often make it a full meal by adding a scoop of Sunwarrior Chocolate protein powder and 1/2 a banana and blending. Blending in nut butter is also sooo good! You can do so many things with it :)

Thanks for the idea! I always drink my juices diluted (sometimes by half, usually more), and adding chia seeds ups the reason to drink a juice. Also, sounds like something I can take to work and not be annoyed at needing a spoon. (I get up really early and am not in the habit of eating breakfast, and this is great...)

In my country, the chia seed drink is well known since ever. Specially for the summer. We simply make it with water and sugar ( you can use honey). It's nice with few drops of rose water too. The kids in my family call it (ants juice). Because the seeds looks like ants in the water 😄

i think for omega 3s i would rather go with hemp oil but for fiber and nutrients definitely going with chia

Thanks for sharing your recipe. Since I will make Soy milk -- soaked over night, wash and steamed to soften , then pack into small pks enough for me. 1 part of cooked soy beans to 2-3 parts of hot water, then add in 1 tespoon of raw sesame seeds and blend to smooth. After that I will add in 3 Tabsp of soaked Chia Seeds . I am sure it will taste good. I didn't add in any sugar as I saw many articles that Sugar is the food for Cancer. I do take some brown sugar but try to avoid it if I can.

I am happy to see that you have a KZbin page! I'm the one that asked you about advice on being pregnant and what to do about milk supply decrease and pumping at work. Thank you for the advice! I stopped pumping about 1.5 weeks ago and now just nurse my 20 month old son at home. I also want to thank you for your blog about going green with pumping...it helped me transition to pumping at work back in 2013 when my son was an infant. I was clueless as to the best way to store breastmilk...the mason jars made life so much easier! Thank you again!!

Glad you liked the recipe! I haven't tried the pudding before, but found a few recipes where you grind the chia seeds in a coffee grinder and then mix them up...might try that sometime. ( :

Hi Ashley! I did a fruit sorbe with chia seeds today. It was delicious and so refreshing. 1 frozen banana, 1 cup frozen pineapple, some water and 1-2 tbsp chia seeds. Put it all in the blender and mix, and put in a glass and let stand for about 10 minutes. Enjoy, it was a bit crunchy but I liked it, if not just leave for more than 10 minutes or presoak the chias :) Just thought I should let you know of more ways to use chia seeds :)

I tried it, And let it sit in the fridge, And when i went to add the Orange juice the seeds had clumped up into big pieces some of it. Is it supposed to do that?

I start out with 8 ounces of water and to that I add 3 TBSP of chia seeds. Then after I wait for them to gel up I add 3 TBSP of raw apple cider vinegar, 1 TBSP of lemon juice, a sprinkle of ginger, a sprinkle of ground cloves, a sprinkle of cinnamon, some Stevia and then 8 ounces of green tea. If I don't drink this every day I feel like I am missing something.
