i dont know why im watching this. i did my spoken exam over 2 years ago and got a distinction without needing any external recourses, i just had a passion for the topic i chose to speak about. i spoke for over 10 minutes and my teacher had to hand signal me to wrap up but luckily i wrapped up perfectly and answered the questions lol iirc my topic was about videogame history (covered ww2 computers up until the current consoles including arcades and all the revolutionary games and how it surpassed other media) and its psychological effects and compared it to other hobbies and brought up the fact the pleasant memories from this hobby arent any different to other tasks that bring enjoyment and i used a study of alzheimers and how the elderly would forget what the song was but remember the enjoyment it brought to them. i went very in depth which was definitely unique out of the rest in my class. I was surprised when all my friends that scored higher grades in other subjects scored lower than me with just a pass or merit. Weirdly enough, i dont even care about grades or highschool, i was always an average C and B student.. but im intrigued to see other people's experiences for this specific exam in the comment section... i also find it funny how formal everyone is here while im just uh not (:

Hey, I’m doing my speech this Wednesday and was wondering if you have any ideas on social media and how its impactful and how I can structure the speech?
@AlizaMedic2 жыл бұрын
I would start by saying the general uses of social media and something like how many people use it. I would then highlight the impacts I'm going to talk about. Then I would have paragraphs which each go into the impact and I would include some counter arguments as well and then essentially be like however in response to these arguments.... and prove my impact. I would repeat that and then have a conclusion. It depends how long your speech has to be and depending on that I would see how many impacts I include. Personally I would have positive impacts as well as negative ones so I give an overall view rather than a biased one.

@AlizaMedic3 жыл бұрын
Hi, it doesn't necessarily need to be dramatic as long as it starts your topic of in a nice introductory way. For example anecdotes aren't always dramatic but are a good way to start of an idea and then you can use that and continue to say "linking with my next argument....". I could give you more tips if I knew your question because if you are doing advantages and disadvantages then perhaps you could mention a point and explain it. After that you could say "however some may argue..." and justify that.

@AlizaMedic3 жыл бұрын
All of them look very detailed and thorough, ultimately it is down to what you want and feel most passionate about. Perhaps the first topic maybe too broad because it is very general as to the "issues" you may discuss, maybe if you focus on certain 'types' of issues that will give your speech more of a focused structure. But ultimately its your choice!

@@wren9099 Hey, I am not an expert in this but as long as you make eye contact and present with confidence it should not be a problem The best thing would just be to practice lots until you feel that the sentences are coming naturally, and the speech flows well. I guess a very traditional way to start will be to say what social media is and then from there start with questions like "what allows you to communicate? What allows you to relax in your freetime? What allows you to share photos and videos?" Etc, so all the positive things and then you could say however, "what leads people on the path of communicating with strangers?" Etc which would be the negative side of things. After dropping a few questions from both sides then you could say "well this is what I'm going to be talking about..." and take it from there. @AlizaMedic2 жыл бұрын
What about racism in sports are you planning to talk about? You could give examples of where people have faced it and where they haven't and talk about the extent to which racism exists in sports. What you say would depend on your question and what it focuses on. I prefer using cards because it just gave me more assurance that I would say everything I wanted to and I just kept looking up to make sure I was making eye contact. If you think you won't make eye contact with cards but are confident that you know your speech well then I would say if you are comfortable with not having cards then go for it. But if you're like me and want something to refer to throughout then I would say have cards. It's your choice as to what you feel more inclined towards.

I am writing my speech about why cats are better pets, can you give me some ideas?
@AlizaMedic3 жыл бұрын
Well the first step would be to google it and do a bit of research on why cats are better. Also maybe you could compare cats to other animals and contrast them saying as compared to, for example, dogs - cats are better because they are .... Maybe also you could discuss why they are better in terms of physical features, like they are cuter as compared to other animals, but on top of that you could also talk about why they are better in terms of their behavioral and emotional characteristics. E.g. are people more emotionally connected with cats, are people who have cats in general happier and so on. I have never really done any topic of this sort so I don't know how helpful the above ideas actually are 😅

Oh yea sorry I forgot to mention in could also be social justice 😬😬
@AlizaMedic2 жыл бұрын
@@pujashree5047 Ah I see, what are you planning on including because in a way some can argue that it could be linked to both justice and injustice. Are you planning on mentioning both sides and arguing for one or just sticking with one?
@pujashree50472 жыл бұрын
@@AlizaMedic I plan on arguing that solitary confinement in an inhuman punishment and should be banned. I only planned this much and don’t know how to start it or go further. What do you think I should do?
@AlizaMedic2 жыл бұрын
@@pujashree5047 Personally if that is what I'm arguing then what I would do is start by saying what solitary confinement is and then list few reasons why it's inhumane. After I would talk about how it links to social injustice. Then I would say that some argue that it is okay to do (they say it's humane) and why I believe their reasons may not be accurate. However, please note this is just how I would do it and it's up to you what you choose :)

How long does the speech have to be is it a few minutes
@AlizaMedic Жыл бұрын
Different schools have different requirements, mine said up to 5 minutes.

How much pages should it around about be ?
@AlizaMedic3 жыл бұрын
Depends how long your school wants the speech to be, mine was longer than a page while other people had about three quarters of a page.

hey i am writing my speech on Racism but I have no other points to things to say and what else to write. as well as start of to achieve a merit or distinction. may you possibly help me out :)
@AlizaMedic3 жыл бұрын
Hi, So personally I would maybe talk about how racism has progressd through time, changing laws, give examples of events and perhaps say how racism affects the victim and then mention why the person or organisation were being racist and include maybe quotes from them. But then I would conter-arguement that and say that this reason is not valid as racism can never be justified. Those are just a few ideas and I hope they help.😁

How were you allowed to have your entire speech with you. We were just allowed a flashcard with a maximum of 50 words
@AlizaMedic2 жыл бұрын
My school allowed us to

that was good i guess but doesn't it have to be 4 mins?

Not necessarily, depends on what your teacher says and how long you make it

I have mine in 3 weeks. I'm only in year 9 though but we are still doing it
@Mjeuro9923 жыл бұрын
Why are you doing it in year 9? I thought doing it in year 10 was harsh. Ngl I was so dumb in year 9 compared to what I am now, anyway I wish you that of luck and with enough effort it should be a piece of cake.

@@Mjeuro992thanks and i hope I will do well🥲 we do them in year 9 because we start the gcse syllabus a year early (so we choose gcses in year 8 and start syllabus in year 9) in my school.
