I was also kicked out of guitar, violin and piano lessons for being "unwilling to stop playing by ear and learn to read sheets" even though I tried my hardest. She was wrong though because there's a difference between bad and overplayed. There's a reason why pieces like Für Elise, Clair de Lune, Moonlight Sonata, etc serve as an entry point to classical music for a lot of people. Because even though they're overplayed, they're still beautiful. Same for Stairway to Heaven and classic rock

Me too, actually! But with the violin! I wanted to learn to play because of Jurassic Park and its GOD DAMN BEAUTIFUL THEME, and then I got into classical and begged my mom for lessons. My first teacher was actually really nice and understanding and nice. He taught me for about 3 years before I moved and then I gave up all hope until I went to hells worst corner which is called a school. The orchestra teacher there was super nice and had some of the students teach me and one other student who after three weeks I never saw again sheet music because neither of us knew anything about how to read it. I always had a really hard time with learning songs and it always took me a really long time to get them right and piece them together into actual songs, but he never gave up on me and when I got to 6th chair for the first time ever, he was really proud of me. He's retired now and I'm terrified that my new teacher is going to be a satan worshiper or child murderer or something so I'm trying to distract myself from the possibility that I'm going to die next year.

My first violin teacher was all about *posture* and had a teddybear filled with what I think was rice. She would place it on my head and I had to play like that. If the teddy fell off my head, no matter how well I had been playing the piece, she would make me start over. and when I say start over, I MEAN START THE LESSON OVER. She would stop me, make me do warmups (scales and arpeggios) and then play the same piece again. Needless to say when she left my school and I got a new violin teacher, I suddenly progressed really well and enjoyed my lessons.

Yeah, fur elise is a good song but it's kinda overrated (haha didn't think that when I was around 6 or so as that was the only song anyone would ever catch me playing). His sonata op 2 no 3 in c major is really good (really hope that's the right one), and it's fairly easy too.
