Love wallpaper too. You could add a pop of warm wood ( not too orange, so try a special walnut stain) above, also. Your spaces are very farmhouse still with a bit too much white for your color longings. I love copper ( the color of your hair) and that might work for you. Also blues. Any blues, with greens. Consider pewter if you prefer silver tones, with the blues. That toilette ( twa- LET) sign? So cute!

I love both bathrooms and the touches. You asked about the plates in the bathroom. I feel it is unexpected, but I like them. It gives a Parisien vibe. There are no rules and feel that you should fill your rooms with the things you love and are pleasing to your eye. I love the vanity in the wood tone [not opposed to painting wood fyi]. Another review suggested some gel stain if you decide to go that route. Yes to some pretty sconces and wall paper. Love your videos and talent!

You can fix orangey wood with a coat or two of Minwax Coffee Gel Stain or General Finishes Java Gel stain. You just go right over the existing finish with the gel stain. It will give you a beautiful brown wood finish and knock out the orange. You can still see the wood grain. It holds up great!

@@SheHoldsDearly I usually just slop it on with a foam brush and then wipe it off with shop towels. It's a pretty quick fix. If you decide to try it, just protect your floors really well with thick cardboard or something for the parts of the vanity you can't take outside.

Your bathrooms are beautiful!! We paid 600.00 to a professional to re-do our yellow tub in our old house. It lasted about a month and started peeling. He came back twice to fix it…it just kept peeling. Then he wouldn’t return my calls. 😠 Glad it worked for you…maybe the home stuff is better these days. This was 15 years ago. Also, I ordered the same type faucet from Amazon with good results. Totally agree with the toilet handle! I bought a round (looks like an old faucet handle) one that you turn to flush…it’s soooo cute!

Wow. Beautiful, inspiring updates! With your upstairs vanity, one option might be staining it without stripping it back. I had success with an orange-stained dresser which I coated with a black stain. I used liquid sandpaper, then went over it with the black stain (I believe it was a stain/poly combo). I then sanded back lightly on drawer edges to let a bit of the original orange show through and then did a light pass with the liquid sandpaper again to get a matte finish. I wasn't able to sell it until I changed the color, but it looked great in the end. I like paint, but I like to have options in case paint doesn't feel right for a piece. :)

Yay, to your extreme bathroom makeovers! Brilliant work! One thing: 'Toilette' is pronounced 'Twa-LETT' (E-double 'T'-E = short e sound followed by the hard 'T'). For 'Twa-LAY' you have an 'L' followed by 'ET' (no 'E' at the end causes 'T' to be silent) .

LOVE!!! Yes, definitely do wallpaper above the rail trim, something that will really accent your bronze metal in that bathroom. These are both gorgeous!! I have been wanting to do sconce lighting especially in my downstairs powder room and LOVE the ones you have. I do not have an old house but I have an old-style home. I wanted an old 1900 farmhouse but never found one in our budget. Twenty-five years ago, we stumbled on a great deal on just over 12 acres of land, bought it and set to work designing our home from scratch. I made sure to design it with an ample sized foyer, high ceilings, wrap around porch with bay windows on both floors, walk up attic, and even a cedar-lined closet in the upstairs hall for wool sweaters, fine linens, and formal wear. I have transom windows, unique quirky elements typical of old homes, and a large fireplace. Sounds perfect, right? Nope, still a work in progress, still going back and redoing things where I gave in to more modern elements due to cost or my husband's wishes, but now he sees what I was trying to create and said to go for it. Small budget but I'm going to do my best!!! Your channel is such an inspiration!!! Thank you!!

Beautiful remodels! I think it's important to remember, though, that when you buy an old home the previous owners may not have had the budget to do the fixes the way we would prefer. I am waiting for 20 years now to re do our upstairs bathroom, tucked into the eaves. I would LOVE to move our cast iron tub in there, somehow. To use as a tub, definitely not a shower! ( I spent my entire shower batting down the curtain liner--the steam just sucks it up against my body and destroys the whole "experience "!) Maybe a handheld showerhead to use while sitting in the tub! Hubster doesn't think he can get the tune upstairs because we have a 90° turn at the top of the stairs. Still waiting!

I’m trying not to laugh because my only bathroom was not even scrubbable. The subfloor was rotted and yes even floor joists had to be repaired (sistered) and reinforced for the heavy tub. I put in a maple floor (shellacked). The walls are real, tall beadboard and a medium wood tone. It was difficult not having a sink for awhile but you’re right, the slow process turned out BETTER!

I'm late to the party, but YES to wallpapering the bathroom ... with one caveat: Use the newer, easily removable wallpaper in case you change your taste and in case you sell the house. Wallpaper can be a real turnoff to some potential buyers.

We currently have a buffet turned vanity in our master bath. I keep looking at it thinking it needs to be painted. The wood tone is just to orange for me.
