It's not just you. I loved these when they came out when I was a kid. Rewatching them as an adult, they seem really cheesy, but also a lot of fun. Some things didn't age well, but others hold up beautifully.

The beautiful thing about old school degrassi is they never told you what to think. They laid out scenarios in all their complexities and allowed the viewer to work through their feelings about certain issues. There's never been anything else like it. Watching you react to degrassi has been an interesting case study, there have been so many end frames that you found left you hanging, but that was indeed the point. Things aren't always wrapped up and tied with a pretty bow, life is more complicated than a 30 min episode.

You asked for the gay in Degrassi, there was a book series of Degrassi Classic novels that went through the POV of some of the popular main characters (Stephanie Kaye, Spike, Melanie, etc). There's a book that came out based on Snake with his thoughts after learning his brother was gay and his own thoughts regarding his own sexuality. Snake is considered to be bi and there was even throwback hint to this in S8 when Alli and Claire get caught by Spike in their bedroom and she asks them if they discovered any of "Mr. Simpson's deepest darkest secrets" 😅

I always loved the freeze frame of Wheels, because the frame represents the end of an era with his character. Wheels is gonna show his ENTIRE behind for the rest of the series, and all sympathy the viewer may have for him is about to be GONE!

Wheels last name is Wheeler! Derek Wheeler, therefore he got his nickname from his last name. :) Funny enough, in the Kids of Degrassi Street, he plays another character where he also went by a nickname of his last name (Griff was the nickname, Griffins was his last name) and his bio dad in DJH/DH is his brother in KODS!

Poor Snake. He was something else! 😂🤔😭. I don’t know why he thought he couldn’t pick up girls… Glad he got better in TNG👏🏾. Poor Michelle, she really was going through it this episode and shame on Alexa for betraying for friend like that. (When you were taking about not hanging out with your friends ex it reminded of a similar situation happening on a reality show Vanderpump Rules🤣) now Wheels, wheels, wheels, wheels… that’s all I’m gonna say😭🤦🏾‍♀️. As usual Joey was in the wrong for taking them on crazy shenanigans but he was right about Wheels and how he’s been acting! (He made sense for once in his life!👏🏾🤣)I wonder if he partely acted this way because of his trauma of his parents dting(definitely not excusing it though) I think if I remember watching, it gets worser for Wheels in the upcoming episodes. He just couldn’t seem to get on the right path of life. (When you were mentioning his storylines I was trying to figure out if they happened in junior high or high🤣) and you are so right about just looking up a menu online compared to actually going to see it etc. Wheels was just very disrespectful to his grandparents(grandma) who were so nice and sweet (and I hate to say this) but he should be grateful towards them. I think one of my last fav episodes it’s near the end of the season and that is a dosey. Anyway Michelle is a real one! Also poor Caitlin. I hated that the mom was saying I want to stay in my marriage girl, your man isn’t fighting to stay in your marriage if he’s cheating on you! And the dad was something else with trying to be nice to the mom and trying to discipline Caitlin and I’m like man your the one on the wrong here cause you treated. A whole mess🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️. Also, it’s so crazy seeing why was used back then no technology times as a baby who was born in the internet age (at least I think🤷🏾‍♀️🤣)Let’s end it there in a positive note! 😀

To be honest, I feel bad for Michelle. It would be very weird to have my best friend (like a sibling) who is hanging out with my ex boyfriend's (who is my boyfriend's friend) and his current girlfriend (the side chick, and cheated on me for a month). I've been through something like this. It was awkward and sticky 😕😞😢 A guy who is very nice, I went to sophomore year, college with him, asked me out, but the breakup I went through was fresh, and I wasn't ready. I told him, but he understood. I took time to find myself and reflect, and felt great. Time will tell, when I'm ready to go back in dating 😊❤
