Having the spindles go all the way down to the stair treads seems like a good idea for keeping small dogs on the steps. However, if your area gets any snow it may make it harder to shovel since you can't push the snow off the side. The bottoms may absorb any water or slush sitting on the stair tread.

Thank you for the helpful video. I have a staircase outside with the same railing and open sides. I see now how to measure for cutting the angle. Also I've used 30 Second outdoor cleaner for mold and mildew stains. Tractor Supply had the best price!

For a cleaner- Mean green with bleach, does a good job. Nice to see you again as always.

I recently tried two cleaners with my wooden fence. One that was mostly just a soap that required a lot of scrubbing and didn't really work, and one that was essentially just a super caustic bleach mixture that almost instantly made the boards look brand new. I recommend the latter. I'm pretty sure it was the Olympic brand from Home Depot. I just sprayed it on with a regular pump sprayer then sprayed it off with a garden hose. It was very satisfying to watch and very unsatisfying for breathing, but it set up 300 linear feet of fence perfectly and let me stain it a couple days later when it was fully dry.

U showed us a project that is basically behind the one u have going now. With the current one wrapping up will u be starting the other one. Been waiting a long time for that beauty. Although I did learn a lot from the complete redo of the basement stairs in the current one.

Cant remember the exact product but I remember someone using like pool cleaner or shock in a spray bottle for moss and gunk on siding. He sprayed it on, waited 15 minutes, hosed it off, brand new. I always just pressure wash the life out of the wood, no kids so idc if it splinters up a bit. It goes away quick enough

About to tackle our aging back deck after finishing up building a office in our basement. Im going to flip the main deck boards over as the bottom still looks new then stain/seal then replace the top railing. Watching you get things fone really motivates me to do other projects and builds confidence!

Muriatic acid will clean off the weathered wood. "Weathered" = "dirty". Spray it on with a pump sprayer, wait a few minutes then hose it off and let it dry. The wood will look brand new. I used 2 coats of Behr Premium Transparent Waterproofing Wood Finish afterwards.

recommend a deck cleaner like "Ronseal Decking Cleaner & Reviver" when I mved to this home the deck was slimey and grey...I put that on with a deck scrubber brush and left it to soak in... day later I pressure washed it came up like new white wood bare...no extra effort... then I put decking oil on it... lasts a few years and can see the wood grain through... suggest you use that and maybe glue or scrw rubber mats on each step .... then if in futre you need to refresh it again, it wont be so hard and so dirty .

Simple bleach diluted with water in a pump sprayer works well and is cheap. For removing dark stains in wood, mold, mildew, it will kill anything living and clean the wood too, removing most stains. It soaks in, so it works into the wood, preventing regrowth for a while. Just be careful when using and know what is below. Relocate any movable plants, outdoor furniture, grills, etc. (🤔 Relocating any outdoor pets 🙀 in the area is just common sense.) Any unmoveable plants should be covered with plastic and then rince well with a hose afterward. This will further dilute any bleach water in the soil to a harmless level. Note: You probably have already used this method. If you ever needed to clean siding, roofs, sheds, or any lumber that has green algae growth, it works on that, too.. 👍

Sometimes it's overwhelming when you have so much to do, when you don't know what to do just default to something that is a no brainer and think while you work.

I'm in the same boat, but I'd say start outside and get things at least squared away so nothing ends up ruining the inside. Then just move room to room so you aren't working on multiple things at once
@Anony___mous2 ай бұрын
@@UhhhWinski1 I worked that way when I did my house but I found it to be more difficult. For me, it is easier to focus on tasks by category. Tare out, foundation, framing, wiring, plumbing, ect. Once those are squared away throughout the whole house, jumping around isn't so much of an issue.

Sodium Per-carbonate to pre treat the wood, then pressure wash off with a fan tip.

Bonus: When the pressure washer digs into the wood, it becomes slip resistant. Which I'm sure is code somewhere.

If starting from scratch, I think instead of putting 2x4 rails on the inside, I would put a 1x4 on the inside and the outside to lock in the spindles from both directions

I discovered recently that biological washing powder sprinkled on mould/ moss areas ( do it when you expect a light it rain) will kill and deter the mould and moss. I am delighted to tell you this appears to work well...on wood, stone and cement too. 🎉 I just sprinkle the washing powder and allow the rain to activate the enzymes.

Sodium Hypochlorite aka liquid pool bleach. 50/50 with water in a sprayer. Then rinse it off. That's what all of those "60 second miracle house cleaners" are. You can do 25/75 if you want to go easier on it.

To double down on what you're saying about doing the work even if you didn't need to bring it up to code - should someone get injured, the local building code will be used to establish reasonable care in the ensuing lawsuit. You spent... what, $100 one time to protect yourself against a potential million-dollar lawsuit. Good investment.
