​@@joshbacon8241the switcheroo is just drafting behind another car to take advantage of the lower air resistance to build up a speed advantage and then sling out and around, often in a corner. As to why it's so powerful here it's all about how they tuned the physics engine. This balance between where the clean air is, dirty air is and how far back they are from the car determines how well you can draft and therefore perform the switch. Forza wants action packed racing and so they likely tuned the physics to amp up the effect of effects of drafting and made it very effective. In real F1 for example it was notorious for having cars set up so the air they threw behind them was "dirty" and it basically negated the benefit of lower air resistance. However that makes it so qualifying can be everything, there were races were zero overtakes happened which is very boring to watch or race in

The racing here seemed...really good? Good battles in every race, mostly clean racing, penalty system seemed to work, etc. We'll see if it looks the same when the full release happens but it looks like we finally have a competitor to GT7/Sport mode for the sim-lite racing market.

Its early access and so the quality of racers and racing are definitely going to be higher. No one here wants to be early access community member/reviewer/tester whos ramming people, especially when everyones probably recording footage. Infact bit disappointed that @supergt did not disclose this. The Forza community will never race this well after launch.

@@corvette274 I think its important to remember too, that this game is going to have DR and SR ratings, so odds are the rammers will end up towards the bottom and (ideally) filter themselves out. Still gonna be chaos until everyone gets themselves under control, but hopefully it works.

@@corvette274 So 'the Forza community" will never race this well post-launch, but evidently DO care enough to moderate themselves during early access? Seems a bit of a stretch. Forza's problem was that it didn't separate the wheat from the chaff, which should hopefully happen now that they have rating systems like GT. If anything the quality of racing should go up as people solidify their ratings and separate themselves. Honestly, between the way MP is structured, the rating system and the penalty system, this game doesn't seem like it's going to be very fun for the prospective Forza rammer of games past.

I gotta say, the game's penalty system actually looks really solid - especially without a single patch or update yet. It's not perfect, but I don't think that's really possible with a non-human system. Does a good job of figuring out what stuff to let go.

I'm very happy to see they included Laguna Seca's original layout before the infield section was created in the late 80's. You mainly don't see it in games, because it has never been used since the new section was made. The original section's pavement is still there, but is a part of a parking lot now. It's not really an oval as well because there is a kink in the turn there, that is just not as pronounced as it was back in the 80's.

Played this this morning for the first time 2 things I noticed straight away 1. Understeer central. Even with the starter Mustang, I can't really get it to oversteer without reallllllly trying 2. Yes this. It does get a bit better once you unlock racing tires for your car. I'm just happy it feels great on my fanatec wheel after changing the settings because stock settings are terrible. That was a deal breaker for me but I'm having a blast everything actually feels really good.

​​@@gremlinpityeah I had a taste of it last night in the ol Bentley. It's probably not the best car but I have a soft spot for the big beast. More agile than ya might expect. The players were clean racing and the lap times were pretty close and consistent. I found the hard tyre not able to hold up for the whole race so for me the strat was hard tyre to start and when I had 3 laps to go I went soft tyres. I came 4th with only one second between myself and the guy in third who I was chasing since I got out of the pits as we passed other racers with their worn tyres. Amazing

The fact that the game adds your penalty to your final time (which can affect your placement in the race) is the perfect way to discourage bad driving. If you've got a big enough penalty you might lose your position despite finishing earlier

As someone who actually races Laguna Seca (on motorbikes), the old historic configuration as shown in your video is not actually possible in real life. There is a large gravel trap in T2 that they'd have to pave over in order to make this historic config work. I do appreciate Turn 10 putting it in for variety's sake though. Loved watching to old AMA races there on the old track, looking forward to racing it in Forza soon!

I have to say, as someone who hasn't really played the Forza racing games (but have the Horizon games), and watching your videos of this and GT7, I really prefer the UI of the Sony game. Freaking Crew Motorfest has some of the worst tire wear when tracking racing. After 1 laps, half the life is expired and you spin out on turns with minimal throttle.

I don't think so. The longest race I have seen at least in that event was 13 laps. For GT cars the wear was less, so I'm not sure how they would set up the tyre wear for each class and spec event, but I think it's fair atm so you would have different strategies there in a small compact race.

This game seems to have that F1 tire model where the first 25% is the best of the rubber and begins to fall off by a couple tenths and at around 50% the tires are like ice lol. Still looks like a fun game but I think they need to work on the degradation and tire advantage. Medium and soft don’t have much of gap in terms of pace but the fall off is crazy on the softs.

Looking at a satellite picture of Laguna Seca, there are traces of the shorter route. You can see the pavement going to the right before the first hairpin, but that part ends in a gravel pit. Going past the outside barrier there is a road that connects back to the track. Still outside of some nieche historical reference I don't see why they'd give this track an even shorter version.
