Tekken and Soul Calibur for me are the only fighting games where the more you learn by playing is like unlocking a whole new tier of abilities that were already accessible to you from jump but now you got the mindset on how to use em. Plus Tekken 8's training modes are tailored to really hone your craft.

@Mightykeef In Tekken, homing and tracking are not used interchangeably. Moves that are homing can catch any sidestepping player no matter where (provided they're in range) and how they step (homing moves have the cyan parallel lines when you use them). Moves that track are not homing moves (so no parallel lines) but normally track well on a certain side, meaning the move can still hit you depending on what side u step on. For example, if you sidestep left and still get hit by that move, it means that move tracks sidestep left. But if you sidestep right against that same move, that move cannot hit you.

Two things, 1) Tekken is very knowledge based so don’t beat yourself up if you don’t know match ups right away. I’m also just learning Tekken and it def is hard 2) movement is so elite for Tekken, sidesteps and backdashes are your friend

Side Stepping is a thing you have to do with purpose. Yes, it's for evading certain attacks, but you have to know what you're evading. If you're side stepping, you're not blocking so if you're just throwing out side steps hoping to dodge something you're gonna die. And don't forget, you can use side steps on offense if you know your opponent's gonna swing on you after you hit them.

I’ve been playing SF6 since launch and played every SF game since 2 back in the day. I was one of those street fighter fan boys. Haven’t played a Tekken game since 4 and that’s was at a buddies house. This my first Tekken since 4 and I have not gone back to street fighter 6 since. This game is just too good and has everything I wanted in a fighting game.

I'm happy you're loving Tekken. There's really no need to learn the advance stuff unless you're rising higher in rank or if you want to get more serious playing it. Also, if you want to avoid lags in the game, decline matches for wifi players, I tried giving them a chance in the beginning, but they're all really bad experiences.

I have issues executing it but sidestep is great for avoiding poke jabs in close range. You can even weave some of those quick punch strings that are normally safe on block if you mix in crouches at the right time. It’s basically every characters mid version of Steve’s Dempsey rolls.

If your wondering about side stepping in tekken it matters alot. But here is the thing there is side stepping moves (up up, or down down) then there is sidewalking (up up+hold, down down+hold) and there is a diffrence between the two. Some moves require side stepping and some requires side walking. The main thing is understanding when to use both and mainly knowing a characters bad side, each character have a bad side where a majority of their moves miss to that side but you still have to becareful. Once you understand that you gotta start looking at moves or strings you lose to see if you can duck or sidewalk or step those moves.

A tip for learning how to utilise sidestep. Start with just using it to avoid your opponent's long range approach tools. It's so easy I'm sure it'll work out for you first try!

I agree, Tekken 8 goes way harder than I thought it would. I have SF6 as well, but I've only played it a few times; I thought I would get into it after not playing SF for a long time, but it just hasn't held my interest any. The last Tekken I got into was T6, so this was such a welcomed surprise! I was labbing Nina for like almost 2 hours just having fun putting together my B&B combos. With her and Jun being back, I'm good on my day 1 mains! Now I'm just waiting on Julia and Lidia! Also the way you came back on that Jack-8 was 🔥 and funny as hell 😂

I've never played a Tekken game before but this one does look pretty cool. If you're looking for interesting fighting games, Checkmate Showdown is pretty cool (combines chess with a 2D fighter).

King main here, been playing for a little over 5 years now. I'm definitely not a pro, but I find that sidestep is more effective just outside of jab range. If you're super up-close, block > punish. But a lot of front kicks/lunge moves have range but don't track, so sidesteps are especially effective here. You also typically have sidestep attacks, so have those ready when you see a "poke" coming. King does have a tracking back-heel that's got good range and combats sidestepping, so definitely use a grain of salt with my recommendation above. 👍

Side stepping is useful after you download your opponents. Forcing a whiff and punishing it is free damage. Once you’re used to the game it’ll make more sense

As a Victor player when you're at distance use your gun which then puts you into Iai stance for some fun mix ups. The best is the foot stomp into your sword....or just keep foot stomping them.

You need to sidewalk not just sidestep. Tap up or down twice and hold on the second tap the character will just keep walking to the side it'll help you evade a lot more attacks.

It depends how you side stepped left or right on certain moves you have to be on the opposite side also you may have to use side step walk to avoid a bit better but every character does have a universal counter attack so you have to test what are the tracking moves

WiFi connections in tekken 8 are bit of a hit or miss and can cause lag even though everything seems to be fine, a wired connection is the best option to use and to play against.

Would say while smash is #1 for me with platform fighter, tekken 8 brought me back in for traditional fighters. Outside of arcsystem games I should say. I mean it helped that I always loved yoshimitsu and volvo but soul caliber hasn't had a good game for me in years. Only downside is why tf is eddy dlc, and yoshi only got his alien outfit back so far from what I've seen not his bug one. Also I still laugh that I'm super happy for tekken's difficulty to play tier list yoshimitsu is at the absolute bottom. Weird and hard to master are god tier for me.
