Don't forget that the driver's education in Germany is structured completely differently than in the US. Here there are special driving instructors. A theoretical part with over 1000 questions to learn. Highway driving is part of the training. In addition, there is a minimum amount of driving hours with the driving instrutor in order to be admitted to practical test.

@@judywe4941 It is called: adjusted speedlimit. If the circumstances okay and there are no speedlimit (Indicative speed always 130km/h when free) you can drive more than 130km/h also during education. You can also drive faster when it is busy or rainy. In case of accident you have minimum a partial guilt. So, the traffic fatalities are lower than in the US Our training could be not so bad.🤣 What in the US is 2nd amendment is here the speedlimit.🤭

I am a german who had a similar experience with my american girlfriend back in 2005. She arrived in germany just a few days before we started dating. We went to Bremen to pick up her car from the ship. So I went on the Autobahn with her on the passenger seat and slammed the gaspaddle to the pan. She was screaming when the speedometer went over 150 km/h. Took us twice as long to get back to Mannheim the next day. Because she wanted to drive her american Ford Escort. She returned to the states. But I bet she gets tickets regulary now. So Mel, if you read this: "STOP SCREAMING! Its normal!"

Just love your enthusiasm at everything you discover. On the autobahn, one thing you probably didn't experience, even in a powerful Audi, is being on the left-hand lane, overtaking trucks, is seeing in the rearview mirror flashing lights coming from afar - a black Porsche speeding up to you and you trying to find a slot between trucks !!!

As I was younger, I was befriended to an American diplomat. He showed me to speed on the Autobahn. He drove 240 Km/h on a very rainy day, we've had sight of maximum 100 m. I never was that afraid before and never after. I tried to say that it might be a bit unsecure, but he just argued that he already had a few accidents with similar cars, they have very good security systems and he never got harmed.
