You need to change the seat foam and seat sensor. Water damage affects the foam, which causes the OCS to set an undetermined classification which the Airbag control modules doesn't like ant it will set an AWL. That's why you get the intermittent light.

I’m no Ferrari mechanic but based on the photos from Ed, this application does not use a typical sear cushion sensor. Ed described sensors between the seat floor and the seat. An overly complicated engineering solution but, I’m no Ferrari mechanic.

Have you checked the wiring going from under the seat? In the pics it looks like that wiring was under water and the resistance of the wiring could have changed with corrosion. Since the weight sensors have been replaced I would replace the harness from under the seat to the module and I bet your issue clears up. The other option is placing a resistor in line with the sensor and tricking the car into thinking there is always a passenger.

I've been using the Ed technique for years. My favorite is a late model, but high mile vehicle. Just bought a 2009 CVO Electra glide, HD. Adjusted for inflation, this was a $45000 motorcycle. this is PEAK prancing horse. these things, and especially the electrics have a will all their own. I once drove an automatic 400 back from a car show for 2 hours. it had just had 30k spent on the Bosch Kjet injection system and all the electricals. Ran like a top for the whole 2 hours. all the lights were on, radio on, the heater on, pulled good shifted good everything was awesome. we get to the dealer where the car was for sale, I park it to assist my coworker in putting away some of the other cars then walk back. get in the 400, turn the key: Nada. not a whisper. all the interior lights were on so we had charge, but for the rest there was silence. being midnight, not having any tools on hand and it starting to rain, we just left the car there and headed on home. we arrive the next day to diagnose the issue: slip in the key twist and it instantly fires. the only explanation I can think of is that the car was upset to be put away after being driven, but changed its mind after a cold wet night outside...

Wow love the story at the facility to pass inspection. Incredible you got the light to go off! Reminds me of when I had a car sold and the buyer was picking it up in a few days. Of course the starter began acting up and left me stranded. I picked the buyer up as they had travelled on the ferry to Vancouver Island and didn’t want to turn the car off. I let it run while I waited for the buyer just to avoid getting stranded. It was likely worn starter contacts but I did not want to risk it not starting again. We went to directly to an insurance location so that it only had to start once for them. I watched nervously as he started the car and left.

No.. . You already heard him say the correct way to bypass this. You swap the lights in the back from traction control or some other stupid light that is unique to that car with the airbag light Then it comes on and goes off correctly. The only difference is, Ed can only do that with bolts. What you really need to do is cut the trace on the board for the light, scrape off the coating and solder wires to jumper across... No big deal if you work with any kind of electronics

Ed described how they'd turn the car off and back on and make sure all the lights come on when the car's first started, which is how they caught the guy who'd disconnected his light - you do the black tape and you fail the inspection.

2011 my Suzuki motorcycle was flooded (enough to breach the carbs but not the instrument cluster approx 36") in storage in fresh water for 6 hours. Bike was not insured at the time as I recently got it and am a mechanic. When the water receded to 24 inches I backed my pickup to the door and got it out and immediately drained a few gallons of water from the engine refilled with 2 gallons of WD40 but did not crank it. Drained, cleaned and replaced all the fluids and got the bike to run within 24 hours of the flood. The fuel system and carbs were the biggest challenge. Blew air through the wiring connections and fired it up. Nice puff of smoke. 1. Ran it for 1 minute with fresh fluids and filters and drained green color mess. 2. Ran it again with fresh oil for 5 minutes and drained cleaner. ...By the 5th oil change and 30 minutes of running it was good. Oil change #6 was after 100 mile shake down and it was fine. Then oil change #7 and never worried again. Then replaced the harness with a clean oem Ebay harness, took virtually everything apart and cleaned every crevice (very little moisture was left suspension bearings seals did their job regardless). Also repacked the muffler. Spent a couple hundred bucks on it all and took a weekend and several evenings. 30k miles still runs like a champ and compression is what it should be. Bike hasn't even stalled. Not one issue since. I think the experience would have be drastically different if it was under water for longer or in a salt water flood. The storage facility's insurance wanted to total the bike but they saw my effort and were fair with me. They gave me $1500 for "lost motorcycle parts" and I agreed to not sue them for damages. I did not have time to worry about properly torquing the oil drain bolt so it later stripped as I was frantically working when getting it back together. Still runs and no issues or worries.

Hi from New Zealand I'm 52 ,had cars since a baby ,seen it go from carbs, points,dizzy,pushrods,etc to electronic everything,I was a Toyota/Lexus,Ford Holden Tech, Iv got a BF barra and a Nissan C33 Laural 25 DET usual mods, link ECU, no weird computers that won't talk to a laptop no airbag or abs from the factory, its scary,ECU and scans throws wrong codes , the gearbox gets rebuilt, shit its the ECU pack on a Ford Mondeo, change every black box,get keys match good to go, and that was the auto gearbox tech that figured it out ,he goes the box i pulled out was 3000 km and perfect .

It is most likely not be the same setup, but on 2 Dodge Durangos, the intermittent airbag light was from the connector under the passenger seat. I had to disconnect the connector, make sure all the cables were as foward into the connector as possible, clean, and then I reconnect it. I also had to make sure nothing was pulling on the wires when the seat was moved forwards or backwards to have it coming back. So on the Durangos, it was the actual connection, socket and plug, from seat to car.

Passenger weight sensor replaced?.. Sound like the issue I had with a Lancer. The way to fix it is to do a weight sensor relearn (use a snap on solus pro to do a relearn [which is just add 66 lbs, remove the weight, and it back, and do the hokey pokey ie follow the onscreen instructions]). You can also use the scanner to actively monitor the weight sensor, so you can tell if your sensors are misplaced or out of spec.. So to all the Lancer/Evo folks with after market seats and srs light, use the weight sensors and do a relearn. Bump if you can, I'm almost willing to bet the dealer didn't do a relearn (cause I know the Mitsubishi dealer couldn't figure this out).

Georgia Rebuilt Salvage inspections can be Horrendous!!! I took a completely repaired Suburban in for an inspection after rebuilding it after a light rollover. They pulled down the headliner and made me cut the entire roof off and replace it. That cost me an extra $3000.00.

I once got a car passed through a NC State Inspection with an issue (later fixed, O2 Sensor) that cause the check engine light to stay on. If I disconnected then reconnected the battery, the light would be off for 10 minutes. That was all the time I needed.

that is common enough that I'd expect there to be "sensor delete" plugs for it, then you can ditch the airbags if you like. It's a plug that goes on the cable to airbag sensors and just simulates OK signal to the control module. I used those on a 98 VW beetle I had with an engine swap that would constantly bitch about the airbags and fail inspection because of it.

You would not be happy with Massachusetts. To register that, you have to go through a "real" inspection. First, the inspector is a State cop who did something wrong, so got assigned to do inspections. So from the start, he's pissed. Next, you have to present the insurance sheet of everything that needs replacement. For a flood car, this is every single electronic component, every connector has to be re-pinned. You need receipts for all replaced parts. You also need another copy of all this documentation to register it. They check all the numbers. Vin, trans, engine and run them to be sure they're not stolen. They stamp every single piece of paper. And the fun part. If you don't trailer or flatbed the car, at a minimum, you get a ticket. At max, they impound it and you have to return with a flatbed or trailer. If you pass, you pay $50 and get a "salvage title" which allows registration. This title is the same for theft recover, flood, crash, total, kit car.

Sounds like the yearly car saftey inspections in sweden. A friend used kapton tape and copper tape to add a connection from the fuel warning light to the ABS light so it would pass inspection.

Ed, there's usually a 0 point calibration you can do on seat weight sensors. Also, some seat weight sensors are not recommended to be serviced, so you may need a whole seat. I would imagine someone would have tried a 0 point already, however just trying to help.

*Ed* *Bolian* Here is a list of possible solutions for your problem: 1. Many cars have the SRS computer on the floor between the footwells.. One of the lowest integrated electronics components in most cars and the first to go in floods. If it is still functional and well isolated and designed.. All you'll have to do is take it out and dry it then inspect the PCB for corrosion.. If there's any mineral buildup or corrosion.. Fix it and throw it in an ultrasonic cleaner and you'll be done. Also while you are at it.. A pick and airgun to clean the contacts is advised. 2.seat foam holding water deep inside and the humidity is messing with the sensor or constantly changing the weight on the sensor while driving and moving around making the computer think that the fluctuating readings are indicative of a haywire sensor.. So it marks it as faulty. 3. Usually if changing a sensor doesn't fix a problem the wiring is the next suspect. You'd be surprised what poor contact or oxidation can do.. There's so much science behind the placement of grounding terminals and making wiring crimps that it's not even funny... Especially if you're the guy that has to figure out that the dissimilar metals with the high current spike and marginally poor crimp can in certain conditions throw off the entire ground side of the car causing everything to lose it for a few seconds. Almost 6 months to diagnose.... 4.Last resort.. Canbus sniffer like the cantact and just find out exactly how this error comes to be. The repair manual should be a great place to find out which computer determines this error and how.. Chances are the ecu just takes the SRS's word for it and the problem is entirely confined to the airbags. So SRS, wiring and sensors. This is especially true if upon listening on the main OBD port and you hear the SRS only report an OK/ERROR status. In some cases the entire SRS may need to be reprogrammed if there was a collision and the module took ANY action. You can determine this by checking if there is a freeze frame stored there. The purpose of that is to store the conditions of the car at moment of impact for investigations. Used as court proof sometimes. So should be accessible. Some manufacturers will make the airbag light go off in this case to prevent the car from being put on the road again before a thorough repair and inspection.. In which case the SRS computer is entirely replaced and they charge a lot for it. After which they go into a backroom and reprogram it in seconds and sell it as a refurb. Really Interested to know how this works out for you. I might've made an error here or there.. Be kind.

1. Get the autel maxis and it clears the airbag code every time, as long as you key off for 15 sec after code clear. So stupid that Ferrari dealer can't clear codes lol. 2. Fault is most likely the harness. Airbag control module read the resistance to all associated components. Flood vehicles have water and sediment damage to connectors that change the resistance. 3. If you don't believe me, ask Federico if I know what I'm talking about

Cut the trace on the circuit board powering the airbag warning bulb. Insert a timer to power the bulb for the correct amount of time when starting the car. Then turn off the bulb. It can all be done in the area the size of half a postage stamp.

Humans: Never, EVER work on the pass. seat airbag sensor/ switches systems, etc before ensuring the car is COMPLETELY unpowered, no battery connect. Etc. proper reset will require a totally INEPT dealer to resolve, until you do it yourself!🤣 Make sure your key is out of ignition at least of you put a stereo in a car, requiring you merely disconnect, the passemger Airbag on/off light, doing so will send a code, and a headache .. I could only image what a ridiculous shitshow that would become on a ferrari. 🤣 , love u guys. You’re doing gods work; VinWiki. 🙏🏽

I found out that all you need to do to get a rebuilt title in Oklahoma is tell a tag agent you rebuilt it. They literally don't even inspect it unless the car is newer than 5 years. Good for car guys, might not be so good for the public. 😅

Hey Ed, have you checked the connectors for corrosion, and you may want to see if you can reseat any cables between the main computer and the seat sensor

I had exactly the same issue with my Tiguan. It turned out to be moister in the door. Four trips to the dealer, and about a year to get that figured out.

I'd have pulled the seat and checked the connector for corrosion, cleaned up and or replaced as necessary, also checking for shorts to ground, opens etc.... after making sure the system was depowered and safe. Could you see where the waterline was on the back of the door cards? Was the airbag computer above or below that line?
