Lol, I sympathize - one of my colleagues is like that. My favourite story about her is the time she staged a dramatic shouting match with someone, screaming at this person on her phone, in full hearing of her work colleagues, before slamming it down, punching a wall and bursting into noisy tears. The only problem was, we were close enough to see that the the phone was switched off at the time, so it was just a performance that she'd staged for us... She has the useful talent of being able to cry on demand, and she's weaponized it over the years to escape retribution for her lies and bad behaviour.

Story 1 - NTA. How can anyone side with the soon-to-be-ex-friend even when they know she’s abusing animals? Sorry, my sympathy for people finding themselves on the streets ends when they abuse animals and lose housing for that reason. There’s never a reason to kick an animal unless it’s genuinely attacking you and you’ll die if you don’t fight back. A neighbor in my apartment building got evicted after she threw a kitten from the 6th floor of our building and was caught on surveillance footage doing it (as well as a couple eye witnesses seeing it), honestly I don’t feel bad for her and I don’t feel bad for OP’s former friend. Omgggg that bathroom one really hits home. My sister and I used to live with a couple who pretty much ignored their kid's existence and expected everyone else to take care of them.. but God forbid you try and go to the bathroom. Both of the twins (5 at the time) developed a bad habit of waiting for my sister or I to use the bathroom, and within thirty seconds they were knocking on the door urgently, insisting they HAD to go. And of course, the same "parents" who ignored their kids any other time would always choose those moments to tag in and berate you for not immediately opening the door so the kid could use the bathroom. And yet when they tried pulling the same thing on their mom, she started screaming about how she JUST got in there, so they can wait. Even MY mom does this (especially at night) for whatever reason. She'll wait for me to go into the bathroom, then run into the hall from her room (right next to the bathroom, so she can easily see that the light in the bathroom is on and that I'm in there) and be like, "are you almost done in there?!" It's like, NO, I just got in here, which you clearly know!! So she says "I didn't know you were in there, but I reeeeeally gotta go!!!!" It's so freaking annoying. I swear, my dream in life is to have my own place, if only so I can use the bathroom in peace.

I was was 20 and I was finally on my own, I took in my friend who'd just been kicked out of her house for threatening her mother with violence. I felt worried for her and offered her to come live with me, knowing full well that she was an immature person and that helping her would cause us to stop being friends. For a long time I looked back on that and thought it was noble because I offered to help her selflessly, knowing she needed it but that I'd lose her as a friend. Well, eventually we stopped being friends anyway and I know realize I shouldn't've offered to help. I should've let her sisters help her as they were all in their 30s and were established in their own homes. She was not a problem I could take on and I did it anyway. It was a bad decision. She became increasingly abusive as we lived together. It was very dysfunctional.

Oh honey, your first mistake was offering a month's free rent. You do realize now she's going to expect that every month, right?

Oh, and let me add: Never discuss your pay with friends and family. Discussing it with your co-workers is different, but it does depend on the circumstances.

I had an amazing roommate once. She got my dog high, I kicked her out soo fast. I felt horrible, but my dog will always come first.
