Dr Sam if I use Niacinamide, from The Ordinary, and a Retinoid, can i use them at the same time? Meaning, I apply Niacinamide first, then Retinoid, is that correct? Also, where can I incorporate my vit C serum and AHA/BHA? Can you provide a cheat sheet that would explain that. OR a tutorial on the applications of the aforementioned actives-order and time of day. Thank you.

Also try using a humidifier at night. It's a game changer for me. Just be aware of mold production if your area isn't well ventilated.

This video couldn't have come at a better time!, have been using 0.05% tretinoin for 20 months & it has suddenly started to give me small dermatitis like patches on parts of my face & under my eyes for some reason, was considering whether to give it up completely, but will try these tips now. Fingers crossed! x

This video couldn't come at a better time! I've started using the ordinary retinoid and at the moment I can't use it more than twice a week without exacerbating my PD and getting irritation. I'm also using the Elta MD PM therapy which is amazing but it's much thicker than the very runny retinoid so it's hard to layer underneath. Maybe I'll try mixing them 😊

Which Ordinary product are you using? I have PD too and have been advised to use The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane. So far, so good!

Veronica Kaneti interesting! I'm using the original retinoid 2%. I'm worried that the squalane in that one will break me out though 🤔

🙋🏻 DrSam, what are your thoughts on the Ordinary's retinoid in squaline? I lov the feel of it. But do you think is it good enough for a 'non problematic skin' anti-aging more prefentative use? Thank you!

A fabulous informative video as usual Dr Sam. Any suggestions of moisturisers to use under our retinoids or to mix with them? A bland, plain one I’d presume, but it can be hard to find a plain one without silicones. Would I be right in thinking that silicones in moisturizer are fine for on top of everything as it were, but not for other products to come through?

I read that niacinamide cannot be used with vitamin c because niacinamide supposedly oxidizes the vitamin c and also I read that it is just not true, can you answer that question please because it really is confusing. I use vitamin c in the morning and niacinamide at night but before I read that I was using both 2x a day, was I so wrong ? Thank you ! Happy Holidays !! 😊

Hi Sam, thanks for the informative video! Just a quick one - so you mentioned upping usage of niacinamide to twice a day, so if I was using a serum based product I could use that before my retinol in the evenings? And same again, if I was using elta pm therapy I could use this before a retinol in the evening ? Thanks!

Diana Rusnov I don’t know bout the white heads but I do know it can cause your skin to turn a little rosey. According to FutureDerm.com, “When niacin is applied topically, even miniscule amounts will trigger a noticeable flushing of the skin. This flushing isn't harmful to the skin; it's just cosmetically inconvenient and possibly unsavory.”

beautyaddict08 It’s excellent AND combined with hyaluronic acid...my husband is a dermatologist of over 32 years...you can go up in concentration in a typically single ingredient product but many have added fragrance also.

beautyaddict08 Niacinimide is up there in the ingredients list along with other good actives. My dermatologist recommends Cerave products as a low end choice which really confuses me. Paula’s choice BeautyPedia.com speculates a relatively high percentage!

(Jen) Thank you for your feedback! What is it with skincare and added fragrance?! I suspect part of the issue has something to do with the bad smell of the actives. I feel the same about food as I do skincare, I don’t eat certain foods because they are tasty, I do it for the nutritional value-skincare for healthy skin. Has your husband given you any thoughts about The Ordinary?
