People act like you’re supposed to get everything right immediately but in reality owning pets is always a WIP. You find what works. What doesn’t. You continue to educate yourself. Honestly you were already off to a better start than most, you bought a tank and paper bedding. Most people buy wired cages and sprinkle a little bedding on the bottom and don’t research AT ALL. I wish we could have disposable income, I’d buy an indoor pond for my turtles lol. But reality is you have to get things gradually sometimes. I got two rats, and bought a rat manor. I later learned rats do better in groups. So I bought a critter nation sized cage (not the same brand) and then purchased a third rat. I’ve continued to learn and educate myself on their care but I also can’t buy everything all at once. You have lots of ideas and you have been open to learning. Cant wait to see where you go with it.

Omg awe, the set up looks so good honestly I don’t know what people are complaining about haha there is plenty of enrichment here, you could use a plastic container for a big sand dish because they love that, but this cage is really good compared to a lot of cages! A helpful suggestion Is to use platforms. I made mine for my hamsters 40 gallon tank to put his wheel, his water dish, sand bath, and heavy items. I made the platform as high as I could for bedding(11 inches) and I drilled a hole in the platform to start a burrow. It’s doesn’t smell at all when using platforms and a lot of bedding, especially if you have a dwarf. It’s also way less money because the bedding stays in the cage for a while, all you need to do is take out his pee spots which is a little bit of bedding.

I would definitely keep the 10inches of bedding (make sure he has that much under his favourite hideout to burrow more) and then use a bridge to separate it from a sand section where you could then put the wheel in. Great idea btw. If you do that, make sure you put a hideout in the sand, maybe the peanut one if you put some sand in it or even just a curved bendy bridge, that’s what I have in my sand bath. Other than that I think you have done a great job and you should be proud of yourself for taking criticism so well and using that criticism to better guppy’s cage. Also use children’s play sand! Idk where you live but I’m sure you can find some, it’s so much cheaper than reptile sand and all you have to do is bake it and sift it before you use it to make it safe for him. I am also really happy that you are going to try out boredom breakers and that you have bought him a herb blend. I know you have spent a lot of money on him already and that’s so great (for him, not so much for you), but when you can, try getting guppy a whimzee dog chew and some millet and oat, flax or wheat sprays. My winter white dwarf Timothy loves them!

looks so good! and i don't wanna hate in any way but i suggest putting in at least 10 inches of bedding like everywhere (makes burrowing more fun and you can mix the bedding with hay so that it holds the burrows better), a 10 or 12 inch wheel and a bigger sandbath :)

If you do end up using a section or a large container for sand you can put your wheel in it :) I use a shoe box as a container for mine, u don't have to spend $ to make it nice, and it prevents the wheel from sinking and stabilizes it. The wheel is fine for a dwarf :) Great job, Guppy will be a happy hammy :)

An idea could be to get a multichamber hideout and put in on top of the bedding! It’s really great for hamsters and you can put the wheel on top and use it as a platform:) you can also get him a piece of wood so climb around on because it looks cool and hamsters seem to love it :) great job anyways though it looks great

I would love to help! so first of all you need a 500 square inches of floorspace or more cage because if he does have a small bin cage or a small 20 gallon tank that can be the reason why he is trying to escape because he has a tiny space. But if you have a 40 gallon tank or a large bin cage then that is not the problem. The problem might be that he is bored and dosent have enough chew toys or very limited choices of toys like hideouts, chews or just toys in general. If your hamster docent have a sand bath I would very much recommend you getting 1! It can also be that he docent have 8 inches or more of bedding so he/she can burrow and entertain her/himself while burrowing under. I recommend watching Victoria Rachels channel. And I recommend checking out niteangel on amazon because they have multi chamber hideouts, many toys, and so many things that your hamster will love. I personally made a DIY melamine 1,156 square inches of floorspace cage just because in my opinion that's how hamsters will thrive. I will link some sites down below so you can check them out and buy some things that I mentioned down bellow because I very much it will help your hammy have the best life possible considering they only live a short life! So here are the links down below!
