Bakugo's costume is technically the same, but he wasn't wearing his grenade gauntlets. The metal bands on his arms are just what's under his gauntlets normally. Also he had jeans instead of his usual pants lol

The amount of time and personality invested into all of the side characters is one of the things I love about MHA, and it's why filler and slice of life work better here than they do in a lot of anime. The supporting cast are distinct and developed enough that you can very easily go through the entire story and have your favorite character be nowhere near the main cast. A lot of school anime just have the main character, their three friends, and then 16 generic, faceless, black-haired kids sitting in the background, but MHA goes that extra mile to make episodes like this one possible.

This is the only filler episode in the entire series too. it is in-canon filler though, expanding more on the internships the other students did. Also, props to tsuyu's english VA for how insanely spot on her voice is to the japanese version.

The pirate boss' name is Innsmouth, which is a reference to the HP Lovecraft story "Shadow over Innsmouth". It's a part of the Cthulhu mythos, so Innsmouth the squid-villain is a big Cthulhu reference.

I always found Bakugo's internship with Best Jeanist interesting. We see that Jeanist is smart and knowledgable enough to see what the problem with Bakugo's personality and behavior is, but it also becomes pretty clear in this episode that his approach of simply telling Bakugo "You're doing it wrong, dummy" and combing his hair isn't exactly going to cut it (Though Bakugo, surprisingly, at least tries to follow Jeanist's advice for a minute with the kids). Bakugo responds best to powerful figures of authority that he feels have earned his respect, whereas all Jeanist has really done is lecture him on things he views as superficial details. I really like that MHA can do that kind of story where you have a pro hero mentor who's clearly a good person, and has good intentions, but they ultimately mess up the execution because of their own personal flaws (It's obvious Best Jeanist is a bit full of himself too, despite how much he chastises Bakugo for his own pride). It makes the lower-ranking heroes seem so much more human and tangible.

Maybe it's a small spoiler, but we see a glimpse of Best Jeanist fighting abilities and intuition on season 3, I really wish Bakugou was there at the time to see it or at least someone told him later about it so he can give him more respect or at least consider more following his advices.

I really liked this filler. Asui's story was mentioned in the manga, but obviously there wasn't enough time to cover it. Plus, we get two anime original heroes who are both pretty great.

There's too many and most are pointless - invisible girl ain't done squat in 3 entire season's. Sugar boy, animal guy and twinkle guy could be deleted and literally nobody would notice. Most of the pro heroes are introduced barely and never seen again - we've not even seen most of the top 10 yet. When I think side characters we see FAR more from larger cast anime side cast in One Piece, Naruto, Fairy Tail etc. This episode helped some but it was a filler which this show rarely does as it's seasonal vs constantly on air like the above examples.

I think Selkie is a scottish word to describe mythical "Seal folk". I vaguely remember hearing about it from a movie called, "Song of the Sea" (great movie btw).

SpraAnt Gaming yes selkies are mythical seal folk from old lore mainly Scottish that were said to appear as a giant seal or seal like creature in water but also have a human form they took that allowed them to walk on land, in some versions of the story they took this human form by removing a seal skin from themselves when on land, it was also said that if you could find and take this seal skin you could bind the selkie to you or demand favors in exchange for its return.

Some games, especially fighting games, have surround sound which can be tinkered to make sound cues very obvious. Like if the opponent is on the left, the sound will come from the left headphone. Characters also scream their attacks or have an accompanying sound effect for moves. It gives some level of access to the blind.

Reading these comments, I see that a lot of people have different definitions of what "filler" is. Some people think that filler is something the original author didn't make, so if the author wrote it, then it can't be filler. Some others believe that if it's treated as if it never even happened afterwards, then it is filler. Doesn't follow the MCs, doesn't advance the overarching story, etc. I see filler as: Something that doesn't advance the plot, develop the characters, have any lasting impact, or was made completely for fanservice. FYI, fanservice doesn't always mean boobies. Also, if it was made completely for fanservice, but there's character development, the plot is advance, or has a lasting impact, then I don't consider it filler.

As SpraAnt Gaming said in their comment, a Selkie is just a mythical seal/human creature from Scottish folklore. Also, I like that they think Bakugo's costume is different when all that happened was he took his gauntlets off because Jeanist wanted to teach him manners rather than combat skills. Those things around his wrists are just where the gauntlets secure onto.

A lot of people calling this a filler episode, but honestly, you'd miss this episode if it wasn't here. Midoriya, Bakugo, Uraraka, Todoroki and Iida are certainly the main characters of the show, but everyone in Class 1-A has a memorable appearance, Quirk, and personality, and we'd have felt cheated if we didn't get to see at least some of how their internships went while the others were fighting against Stain. Plus, you can never have too much Froppy.

I have suspected that Sirius's earpiece costume accessory thing is actually a sound regulator since her quirk gives her too good of hearing and it's first job is to protects her from deafness. Tsu was put in a situation where she was given a choice to trust that Selkie could handle the situation or take matters into her own hands and rescue Sirius, she decided to trust in Selkie's pro hero command.

The blind guy probably can't see with echolocation to play videogames. What I read was that he memorized the timing and spacing for street fighter so well that he could compete in a tournament. Maybe he was reading his opponents input as well. The cool thing is there is two types of human echolocation, ambient noise and directed noise. It's real but if you have eyesight it's impossible to achieve. It rewrites the parts of the brain dedicated to eyesight to work with sound instead so if you have eyesight your brain won't be able to change to interpret the sound as visual representations.
