@@gersonmoreno9978 Yeah, parents aren't very relevant in shonen. It's normal to have missing or dead parents. They may sometimes have a badass dad/father figure or a mom who dies early on, but that's usually all for shonen anime. So in that regard, she is one of the more realistic moms for sure. Since MHA revolves around heroes and villains, I think the psychological aspect of how the characters are raised and nurtured by their parents plays a major role in who they become as heroes and villains. This is reflected in many characters, probably none more so than Todoroki.

Inko makes some damn good points in this episode. The teachers _did_ fail to protect the students (multiple times!), and those failures were as much about complacency as the villains being clever. Just look at the summer training camp: sure they change the plans to try to keep the destination secret but they still all openly board the same bus, for freakin' sake; it would have been trivial for villains that were able to get into UA itself to track those buses. One of the recurring themes that keep showing up is that Stain, while a murderer, wasn't wrong about what being a superhero had become or how complacent/glory-seeking all-too many heroes were. One of the great things about MHA is the way that it uses the "Villain Has a Point" trope to excellent effect, both at the meta level and in-universe.

Can you imagine being Deku's mom? She raised her son, watching him idolize Allmight and wanting to be like him, all the while she knew that he never would since he had no quirk. Then suddenly, here is Allmight, on his knees in front of her saying that not only can Deku become a hero, he is in fact being trained to essentially be the next Allmight - Moreover, he's not just being trained for it, he was hand picked to replace Allmight.

@@bel410la That's why her saying no is so good - You understand where she's coming from, but at the same time you know what Deku is meant to be. It's one of those scenes that's written so well that you catch yourself going "Shoot... I might have said no too" even when you know what you do about Deku and All-Might

I just want to add something about the scene with All Might bowing. In Japanese, the term for bowing like that, with your head and hands on the floor, is called "dogeza." Even though bowing is part of everyday life, this type is a very serious deal in Japan. "Dogeza" is the equivalent of someone begging for forgiveness, essentially groveling, and is done only incredibly rarely (you would and do go your whole life without seeing this). This scene brought me to tears, seeing All Might on the ground like that. When Inko said, "Don't give up your life," I think that meant a lot to All Might, who's always been ready to give his life for peace. And, fun fact, Deku loves to wear weird shirts - here, he's wearing a T-shirt labelled "dress shirt."

Okay All Mights interaction with Inko here is EVERYTHING to me. THINK ABOUT IT: you are a single, presumably abandoned mother of a child with absolutely zero self-preservation instincts. You’re at the end of your rope. Then, your son’s male idol, his role model, the recently-depowered Superman of your time, gets on his knees and makes a promise like that. All Might admits here that he sucks at teaching (which yeah he kinda does), but he asks (he ASKS!!!) for her to let him be a MENTOR to Izuku instead. Someone to guide and protect him, even to the point of laying down his life. Think about what he’s saying there-he’s saying he would go right now, in that tiny, broken body, and step between Izuku and a rampaging villain if it meant buying Izuku a few moments of safety, and sparing him the pain All Might himself has experienced. Do you realize what that would mean to Inko? That, right there, is the promise her HUSBAND should have kept. That is what a FATHER swears to do the day his child is born. No wonder she collapses to her knees. It wasn’t that she was overwhelmed by All Might begging a housewife for something. It was because she was RELIEVED-in every sense of the word. She saw, at that moment, how All Might felt for Izuku. He loves her son (ALMOST) as much as she does. She collapsed because for the first time in FIFTEEN YEARS, help has arrived. she doesn’t have to raise her child alone anymore. HE is here.

Ah0omAn_0rg アフーマン if I remember correctly, Horikoshi says she and Izuku’s dad “have an agreement.” And ANY father worth his salt, any father who truly gave a shit, would have been around for Izuku is some way, any way he could. Money is only one form of support. For all intents and purposes-raising Izuku, setting an example for him, supporting him emotionally and dealing with the stresses of being a mom? She has had no partner in that regard. No help. She’s completely on her own. He may pay child support (that’s basically all it is), but Izuku’s father is not in any proper relationship with Inko and has no relationship whatsoever with his son.

This episode and the last made me feel for Endeavor. When he saw All Might in his skinny form, the first thing that came to his mind was his wife, and kids, he put them through hell for 20+ years, and it was all for nothing because at the end, All Might ended up retiring before he could be surpassed. All the sacrifices he made wasted, and now he has a dysfunctional family who rejects him, and he never got to prove himself

I really feel like most of these manga/anime creators have Dad issues. There are so many series with a main character with an abusive real dad who either learns to change or a main character who has a missing father and gains and adopted father. I guess creating is a good form of therapy.

Not really, the only reason she can handle him is because she raised him to be that way in the first place. Abusers can be far worse when they genuinely care about their victims. Bakugou's actions are a direct reflection of Mitsuki's parenting more than his own mindset, his automatic anger immediately started to lower once he stayed in the dorms. She's the entire reason he was so terrible before, but it's more sad knowing she really does love him. Edit: Also, what does "without full context" mean? Wasn't the context the entire story arc before this?

@@makslesniewski Actually being full of himself was the effect of others which is 100% true, but she didn't teach her child to be humble nor did she help him understand the feelings of others. She seems like she sppent most of his life letting him be outside despite his young age and then responding to everything he did with aggression rather than understanding. Children act the way they see their parents act, he bullied Deku by repeating the things his mom said and did to himself. Abused children always seek attention from others, he developed an inferiority complex because of what he hears from his mother everyday, and that was taken out on others as a fabricated superior persona in order to keep anyone else from treating him like his mother does.

deku's mom is one of the best mothers i've seen in anime (in my opinion) but its so coincidental (not really) that she says to be safe and be VERY careful if he wants to stay at U.A but then SPOLIERS SPOLIERS SO MUCH SPOLIERS HOLY MACARONI THATS ALOT OF SPOLIERS AAAAAAAAAAAAA SPOLIERRRSSSSS deku ends up being the only person able to withstand shigaraki and fight him in the war and end up basically disabling himself (aka destroy his arms possibly beyond recovery or just using them) i wonder if he'll be able to go to U.A after that considering deku's mom... she will NOT take this well

Did anyone else realise that if you take the comedy out of the scene, Bakugou's mother is actually being abusive. She immediately blamed him for his own kidnapping, continuously manhandled him, and talked down about him right in front of his face. Abusers are worse sometimes when they actually care. Edit: Also, what mother is so happy to be seperated from their child? Has nobody noticed just how much Bakugou was out all by himself as a child?
