My HIV/AIDS Symptoms, Stages, and Early Warning Signs

One of the main questions I receive in my comments and DM’s is “what were your symptoms?” “Does this sound like HIV to you?” “I have an itchy throat, could it be HIV?”
While I am not a doctor, I wanted to share with you my experience with the acute stage of HIV and my symptoms. Some may find my words and images hard to watch, but this is the reality of this virus.

I applaud u for your courage and telling your story. My sister dated a man that knew he had HIV. He gave it to her. She was 18 living on her own with him. People started telling her the rumors they heard. She got tested and she was positive. This was in 1995. She died in 2013. It turnt full blown AIDS and there was nothing that could be done. She was 36 when she passed and I miss her every single day. Continue to pray and serve GOD. Keep your head up beautiful and thanks so much for sharing ❤

@@FF-by6cinot really. In the 80’s when it started doctors didn’t know much and people were dying from it fast. Even into the 90’s. Maybe around late 90’s medicine was getting better at treating the virus but it wasn’t as good as known. Now you can live very long “IF” you take care of yourself. So her sister probably was taking her medicine but everyone different and responds differently. Even though medicine is better now I still know 4 people who passed away between 2010-2022 from the aids and one still living since she was infected 2009. So 🤷🏽‍♀️

Former HIV case manager here. There’s a lot of men on the down low (claims hetero but goes both way) that’s spreading it. Legit, I’ll be asking them in clinic which way they swing and they always say women but when it comes to the question of which they have sex with, they say both

HIV isn't what it used to be and in the coming future I'm sure even better meds if not a cure will be found. I bet you in like 20 years there will be a cure. There actually is a "cure" but it involves a whole stem cell transplant, which is invasive, time consuming and complicated. It's easier to just be on meds and monitor. It's too bad they don't give people that option tho, for the transplant. Anyway, you look awesome. Your going to be OK 👍

We aren’t mandated to do so. NYS IS A STATE WHERE THEY USUALLY DO ASK IN THE ER. Also the ER IS WHERE U CAN GET TESTED, NOT WHERE U SHOULD BE TESTED IF THAT IS WHAT U NEED. Symptoms of HIV ARE SIMILAR IF NOT THE SAME AS MANY OTHER DISEASE PROCESSES.

My mom didn’t look like she had hiv either. My brother’s dad who was on the dl gave it to her, he died 3 years before her from a tumor that came from the virus. She would have chills, skin issues, cold sweats, thrush. All these symptoms would come and go. She finally succumbed to respiratory failure that came from having HIV when I was 10. We now live in a time where there are meds that help it become undetectable back in the 90s there was no meds to help my mom. I feel for you, sending you love and light.

Girl I thank God every day I was diagnosed in 2019 and not 1980. I get emotional thinking about everything they had to go through back then. Like literally becoming guinea pigs to come up with a cure. Taking cocktails of up to 20 pills that made them even more sick than before. Everybody's asking about why the medical staff didn't test for it. Why didn't she request it, knowing she participated in risky behavior? My ex-husband caught it being on the DL and every time I went for my yearly, married or not, I got all of those tests because i cannot watch that bastard 24/7 to see what or who he's doing. Only trust the person in the mirror. I'm not trying to call her out of her name by saying risky. It's risky just having unprotected sex in a supposedly monogamous relationship/marriage. It’s baffled me how they didn’t even test you for HIV the FIRST TIME! Literally every doctor/hospital I’ve been too will ask/run a test if they suspect it. Like this virus literally could’ve killed you especially the way it took over so quickly and your immune system begins to weaken. I pray God continues to cover you! And yes you’re right! If I had gotten tested and it had come back positive, I would have left KF and probably would have had such much anger and resentment in my heart. I’m a nurse and some places will NOT test you for HIV unless you ask. If I remember correctly you have to sign a waiver too, at some places. It’s been nearly 21 years I’ve been in this field and they can be a bit backwards.

It seems you met a nice man, you had a beautiful healthy child, you were diagnosed in a time where this is a highly manageable condition vs a death sentence years ago. So you are lucky! About your immune system: it just goes to show that HIV can really bring a person down in just 1 year. You hear how it takes 5/10 years to destroy the immune system but in your case it was 1 year :-(

I've really enjoyed watching this video. You look pretty and healthy. If you are enlightened and have acess to the best of care, you would unlikely look like the horrendus face of HIV that we knew of a few years back. Some people in the South, where corruption is at the highest and stigma still exists, some people still look like that face, dying young, because they do not have access to the right treatment or are ashamed to go to the chemist and purchase what could save their lives. A lot of people do not know their status too.

I had a cough, went to the hospital and the doctor told me “u need to get an HIV test first before I can proceed”. In my country they’ll test for HIV first before any other thing. They need to rule it out before, then know where to begin 😆

I can’t believe they didn’t test you for HIV right away. Years ago I was losing a lot of weight and had extrema nausea for weeks so they tested me for HIV, but it came back negative. I had a hormonal imbalance. I tested myself last week because I’m sexually active right now with my boyfriend, and have been feeling a lot of fatigue, but it came back negative again thankfully. Thank you for sharing your story. I don’t think people are educated enough on illnesses and side effects to look out for so they don’t get themselves tested or go to the doctor whenever something seems off.

Well, if people with HIV looked different from those without, then fewer people would get it as they would either avoid the person or use 'protection.' Magic Johnson looks like the average person, as do most people with HIV. This should not be surprising, given that the life expectancy of a person living with HIV is similar to those who are HIV-negative, provided they are diagnosed early, have access to good medical care, and stick to their HIV treatment.
