Personally, I think if they changed a few passives to where everything is good for each role. The game will probably be at its best. Tune up and tune down soke passives. But at the same time, it'll be like balancing another group of heroes, which may be even harder. Regardless of format, I think packable passives are a benefit overall if they can add more and balance the ones present

@@Ajaylix I'm open to them both, I thought they added in a great layer of flexibility to playing one character and adjusting to situation + team comp but I would like to see some actual good passives for DPS first before we double down on this concept, I just felt like DPS was a joke to play in this little test run vs what tanks and supps got.

I've a problem with this concept, they are already struggling to balance every character around one passive, if they implement that they'll have to balance the already existing characters + the future ones around 3 passive so they are not completly broken with one of them or completly useless . For me it limit the possibility of the character creation. I might be wrong on this idk.

@mrkusty3972 so they can test real data with ideas that they have? They've taken little bits they have liked from each QP hacked so far, this one will probably be no different. They are probably torn on whether or not any of these passives would be a good addition to the game, so they're letting the players test for them. The option to choose is basically a public poll or survey to the player base, allowing them to understand the psychology of what the playerbase thinks would be good vs the reality of how their choice actually performs.

I have to disagree with the ammo passive for DPS. It was incredibly useful when playing Reaper, Symmetra and Venture. The extra ammo helped significantly, Id love to have an extra 2 shots on the Hellfire Shotguns

As a support I was rocking resourceful for heroes with longer or more impactful cool downs and ran the sudden save for heroes like zen and mercy with lower heals per second. Had a lot of fun

I have a theory that these passives were partly introduced to make tweaks easier. Instead of buffing or nerfing a specific hero, the devs can just tweak the passive perks. Just a hunch. Also, others have pointed out that these passives are left overs from the campaign story mode content.

I think this was more to test how people like more variety between games while playing the same hero. Hopefully if people enjoy the variety, they will put more time to develop 2-3 options unique to each hero similar to the talents system in Paladins.

Slayer is a cool ability, just make it so the whole team can still see then at critical health and a 2 seconds after. Take the ammo passive out and replace it “shield breaker” dubbed damage to shields but not shield health. frenzy is fine as it is.

DPS passives should be like League of Legends runes like Lethal Tempo, where the more you hit, the more attack speed you get, or Electrocute where you deal a bit extra burst damage when you hit combos for example, Shoot + Ability + Shoot/Melee. And many more

From the perspective of how breakpoints interact, ammo changes don't mean anything in a world where DPS is by far the worst role again. Tanks getting to up their armor, reduce cooldowns Supports getting to reduce cooldowns, increase their healing Is miles better than whatever DPS got by a massive margin in comparison. Their raw numbers in how they interact went up, Ammo going up means nothing when most of the numbers on most DPS are pathetic now.

Make unyielding the new base tank passive, completely remove the headshot, ult gen, and knockback resistances and the role will be in a good spot. Tanks with mitigation make up for the ult gen reduction, and debuff resistance I think more than makes up for the headshot resist. Knockback resistance is largely irrelevant on most tanks and only Reinhardt really needs it, so he can get his own individual passive again. The biggest pain point of tank is being the focus of all the damage and CC abilities in the game, there's already plenty of ways to reduce the damage they take but no way to counter stuff like anti nade, or hack, or stuns, which are actually what gets you killed. They already gave some abilities exceptions for affecting tanks like queen knife and sleep dart, why not just make every CC or non-duration debuff weaker against them instead of going through this rigamarole of making every tank able to walk through 5 players' raw damage.

As an additional point, maybe update overhealth so it acts more like the current tank passive. It already reduces ult generation, why not also make it reduce headshot damage. That way tanks who have large heads don't take a disproportionate amount of extra damage when using their overhealth abilities, and the numbers for overhealth for non-tanks can be tweaked if necessary. I think Torb could benefit a lot from headshot resistance, since his head makes up a lot more of his hitbox size, and he takes a lot more damage than other dps usually do.

All the tank passives were fine except for armored. That passive is too good to exist. Frenzy was good, the ammo one is okay but slayer was ass. All the support passives are cool Honestly the most problematic ones are the passives since they’re just super tanks. If their hp were normal then the armored passive wouldn’t be that good + revert the rework of armor. But if they did do that with 5v5 then tanks would go back ti being damage sponges. If these passives were in 6v6 then honestly it be cool though it’d be better if they personalize the passives instead of it be role passives

Actually there is a passive that makes hanzo pretty decent and that to see through walls,, why is that,? well you can play it like windowmaker but with a 2 shot and with seeing through walls passive you can use hanzo ultimate to full effect,,,, it working for me and im in platinum rank lol

As a masters support main, the game is the most fun when dps are strong. i had the most time played at the start of season 9 in all of ow2. when dps are strong, people die. Positioning matters, mistakes are punished. And even as a support, my offensive utility has value. When dps are weak like right now, the support role is just staying alive and healbotting. The offensive value feels useless because all the damage just gets healed so easily, especially on the tank. I play kiriko and zen, i am a playmaker. I want to take angles with my dps and make plays. Not just stay afk behind my team, live and healbot my tank all game. in a multiplayer fps game, things need to die for people to have fun what a shocker

I don't think Blizzard hates DPS players. OW has had issues keeping Tank and Support queues on par with DPS queues since Role Queue was added. If you make all roles equally powerful, Tank and Support will be empty because MOST people that play shooters want to kill stuff and will go to DPS. Why would they play the worst version of the gameplay they are looking for and get flamed every time they chase kills on those roles? On the other hand, when DPS is stronger than Tank and Support you hit the worst case. People that like playing the underfilled roles just quit. They already don't play DPS because they don't want the longer queue times and maybe they are just less aggressive in general. Each one of those rare players that moves to a different game will be hard to lure back and could do long-term damage to queue times. I suspect that is why they keep fiddling with the DPS passive so much. Finally, if you make Tank and Support more satisfying than DPS, most people will still play DPS; but, people will be more likely to flex/stick to the other roles. Everytime a DPS-only player gets denied by a tank or support or lose a duel to them, it may frustrate them towards fighting fire with fire to swap to that role themselves. They already saw as much when support was super busted last summer and when Tank was busted in season 1 of OW2; DPS had near-instant queue times. TL;DR Tank and Support mains are much rarer than DPS mains, so Blizzard is now (wisely) trying to make them as happy as possible so they stick around.

It helps a few tanks who usually stay in the fray. Unfortunately it makes Orisa, Mauga, and Hog damn near unkillable but it made some usually weak heroes very good because it covers a niche their missing. 50% cool down reduction under 50% HP is soooo good on heroes like Reinhardt(my favorite)and it makes Junker Queen actually SUUUPER strong bro it’s kinda scary. I think these changes should actually come to the game but with a few changes

DPS have just gotten like nothing for the last few seasons. At this point I think that support and tank are easier roles to play because of all the changes to DPS are all needs (sorta random but I almost walked into my microwave door typing this) I am sorta biased on my opinion because the difference between console overwatch and PC overwatch is very big. (I've played both) and I'm more of a lower elo player (I'm at around plat level but stuck in silver 🥲)

Its a fun concept if we absolutely can't return to 6v6 but Team 4 doesn't have the skill to balance what we already have so they can't fix the one really big issue with this change: If there exists a hero that becomes REALLY broken with one of the passives, they will then nerf that hero but in doing so will make them reliant on that passive for basic viability. If they powershift them? Well looks like they're really broken with a different passive, starting an endless loop. See Nanoblade OW1 - They nerfed Genji to 110 damage because of nanoblade and it made him even more reliant on it for blade's value to be worth anything. Heroes must be catered to on a case by case basis otherwise blanket changes cause chaos, this is why role passives in the first place are so polarizing.

All my stocks are in for that 6v6 dev blog right now. I bought OW in late 2016. I peaked with 3341 SR in my main. Not the best rank to present, but definitely what I am proud of. I really love playing OW, and I just want that magic back. I am not saying to bring back OW1. You guys can keep the micro-transaction in. If I enjoy playing the game, maybe I will invest a bit. But, right now, the game feels like it could die any moment I don't even want to play it. The only reason why I am still sticking around is that my friends are still playing.
