This is a story time of weird and rather horrible instances living here in Istanbul. Since I’m sharing my life with you, I decided to share this part too so you can stay watchful and probably know what to expect.

I am a 41 year old Turk living in the UK. Whenever I go to Turkey, I will never get into a taxi. I would rather get a minibus into town etc. None of my family living in Turkey will get into a taxi either. They cost too much.

I’m sorry for your negative experiences but, I wouldn’t take it personally if I were you. As far as the taxi drivers in Istanbul yes, unfortunately they have become notorious fir their atrocious behavior and punished by the mayor. Five hundred out of 800 drivers had their licenses suspended for a period of time, until they met some requirements. This was mostly due to their behavior towards customers in general. They don’t just behave like this with foreigners, they’re the same with locals. As far as your experience at the pharmacy, definitely he shouldn’t have done that without explaining why but, he wasn’t trying to kill you. I worked in the medical field in the US for many years and, I can tell you that especially for over the counter drugs they are still effective up to 6 months after their expiration date.

I would never ever ask someone to burrow their phone if I can help it and only then I would be the one telling them to call the police/ Ambulance if it's an Emergency since I would be very weary myself to lend some stranger my phone because you are thinking what if this is some type of scam and the person takes off with the phone. I think your best bet would be finding the nearest hotel or some type of business and asking to use their phone. Also when it came to your medication you got to remember where you are at. Nothing is going to be perfect and 2 months off the Expiry date is not that big a deal since if it was close to a Year then that's different, Heck, I'm in North America where my local convenience store would carry canned foods that's expired, So it's up to you to always read the FINE PRINT.

You should know never pay for taxi upfront, in any country....common sense has to prevail, if the cab driver insists on you paying upfront, there are thousands of other cabs avail. You have to be careful in any country about cab drivers.

I feel like you should have called em out in this video with more info: Picture of the drug, showing where they tried to conceal the expiry date; Receipt; Name of the store; Its location. Most importantly, sorry you had to experience this, people are really messed up and simply evil.

Thank you so much 😘 I did take pictures of the drug and where they concealed the expiration date, and I was being careful not to call out the store since I don’t have adequate info on if that was the real owner because it could just be a couple of workers who don’t care for her/his business. In all, I was really trying to keep the video less dramatic maybe 😂

That wasn't a good conduct to be expected from a pharmacist cos they're meant to help lives positively and not for evil or their selfish purposes. Thank God for saving you...you were quite careful to find out.... Thanks for sharing...Your experience shared is highly helpful to someone out there...

I am a Turkish and I'm deeply sorry for your experience. Turks inhabiting this city are also very unhappy living in it but cannot leave it due to the risk of losing their salaries. I mean yes it is indeed the city with the highest per capita income but they are dwarfed by their downsides such as the crime rate and painful traffic jams. Kind of like Los Angeles of Turkey at this point. In my opinion, Izmir and Ankara are the better alternatives, and issues seen in Istanbul are happening less here.

Its illegal of course but expired drugs work just fine. Expiry dates should only taken seriously on diary products etc. Also report the taxi driver to the police they get your money back and give the driver a huge fine. Use Uber etc next time.

I personally wouldn’t take any chances with expired stuff especially drugs, and my concern was also the people that sold it to me and their actions. About reporting the Taxi driver, that will definitely be my action next time. Thank you for your comment ❤️

My turkey experience was very bad. Two taxi drivers tried to loot me by snatching money out of my hand and they threatened me to get out. Also my friends phone was stolen in a mall at zara and we went to police they denied to help us. We were also looted at a bar by charging 10 times more than it was written in the menu. Overall a very bad experience. Though i LOVED the country and the architecture but because of few people it makes the country to unsafe. I wish to return back but im too scared.

That’s so sad!!! I have also experienced my money being stolen at Zara. Next time you just have to be more watchful, use their taxi apps for taxi. And next time at a bar, don’t pay more than written on the menu. Don’t let them bully you. And also never act like you are new around here. Especially to taxi drivers

Hi…I am new and just subscribed to your channel. Are you still living in Istanbul? I plan on visiting there in February for a Mommy Makeover. Im nervous because my daughter was going to be with me (she’s a dental hygienist in the US Air Force stationed in Ramstein Germany but will be on a deployment to Spain when I plan on being there…so unfortunately she won’t be with me. Yes I still live in Istanbul. Ouch it’s a shame your daughter can’t come with you because I think you should have someone with you when going through a procedure like that. I’ve had someone do something like that recently and the after care is so important and if you would be traveling after that then you need all the help you can get. Also go to reputable hospital with proper after care because they don’t pay much attention to that here so please do your research and go somewhere that they would take good care of you after the procedures. I hope i answered your questions and if you have any other one then I’d be glad to help with answers.

I always attempt to learn the basic language and prices of any country that I don’t know 🤷🏾‍♀️ it happens anywhere not only in Istanbul. Last year I went to Africa, Ethiopia from US I knew the language and everything this taxi driver tried to charge me more than the actual price and the whole time he was speaking his language talking BS about me and everything with his other friends after I refused giving him what he wanted and of course you ask the price before you go in.

In regards to the expired medication, what they did was totally wrong without explaining it to you.... but just so you know, medication that expires doesn’t harm you at all, it just doesn’t work as well as if it was within the use by date. So it’s totally safe...
