I have a fairly young Hermann and when I put her outside she chews some of the weeds then goes in her wooden shelter like she doesn't want to be outside. She doesn't run around like George she's slow! Tried putting her on the floor in the house to see if she's slow and she is fast like George. Why do you think this is? It's always warm when I put her out so I know she isn't cold but I want her to be happy outside but she never seems to be, any advice would be appreciated

donna jones - possibly too cold outside for your tort? Typically juveniles are a lot more shy/hide more as well

Most likely she feels too exposed. Mine hid away until I added loads more plants, shade and cover.

Very nice tortoise and enclosure. Are you sure he can't dig under the log roll and drop in the pond? I thought horsefield tortoises are very good diggers due to the harsh natural environment they come from. Think I would have them set in concrete to be sure he cannot dig under.

Nick F Thanks for watching. I am quite confident he cannot. It's not terribly clear on the video but the soil is a few inches lower than the edge of the pond so even if we managed to get under which I don't think he could then he would have a hard time getting into the pond then. I will try and show this in a new video I will be doing very shortly.

Nice enclosure, but I suggest you not let him look between the bamboo, he can see the pond, it's best that he can't see that area, he will spend a lot of time trying to get there.
