Imo, they really should have talked about him stopping seeing other people when they started having sex. At least to me, it feels like a recipe for disaster to not close that down. That story 2 has so many worrying details. The dental job, the partying, the pushyness, the irritation when the money is late, the aggressive response when she was told she would not get the money anymore, the hysterical crying, the mum taking care of the baby 24/7... I know OP does not see clear evidence for drug abuse, and in isolation it doesn't look like it, but taken all together, this is very, very suspicious and worrying.

Things are getting worse out there with drugs and social media. I am friends with several Sheriff's Deputies and we were all at a BBQ a couple of weeks ago and they were talking about a drug dealer in our area who LITERALLY CALLED THEM to report a woman who was willing to "sell him" her 9-year-old's virginity for drugs. He told them he doesn't see a problem with drugs because those are a personal "life" decision, but what that woman was offering was horrible and gross. They did like an 'informant truce thing" with him and set him up with a wire and ended up arresting her. He told the cops he gets propositioned quite often by both men and women willing to trade their bodies for drugs but not usually their kid's bodies. The Deputies said this is the 3rd instance this year they have heard about something like this with a parent "trading" a kid for drugs but they also heard from cop friends in larger cities that this is something that has actually become commonplace in homeless camps.

20:00 of she’s on drugs and doesn’t want help you can’t force her to get clean. When I was a teen I was given a lecture by one of my mentors. He told us how he’s a recovering addict because he was on hard drugs. Almost dying didn’t stop him. He told us the only reason he changes was the fact his pregnant wife was leaving and she meant more to him. People tried helping him but he didn’t want it till the one person he needed was giving up on him. His whole lecture was you have to recognize the problem and want to fix it and people can’t do the hard work for you.

It could have gone very badly but her husband is clearly a good guy. Glad it all worked out for them. Story Two: Crazy how he said she’s being unreasonable while basically turning his daughter into a monster. I know it wasn’t what he was trying to do, but seriously, she lives with her mom. How did he not think to check up on her with how much he was paying? He’s not a good dad. This is not good dad behavior.

I agree with the comments and outcome for story 2 BUT "He pays for rent and utilities and I pay for groceries" is not what most people would understand by "splitting the bills"; rent and utilities are waaay more expensive than groceries. I would rather call that "I contribute to household expenses". It's totally understandable that she's contributing less given that she is currently unable to work, however, saying just "we split the bills" in a situation where one person is paying all the essential housing costs and probably paying more than 10x more is misleading.

Um sounds almost like while the daughter may not be on substance abuse her drug is shopping and partying and getting cosmetic surgery done. Apparently statistically ppl who get something done are usually repeat shoppers. So expensive treatments along with addict shopping perhaps all due to Instagram influence and addiction to that. Sounds to me like she is addicted to overlapping or connecting things. We've seen this in the brides who nuke themselves bc they want an "aesthetic" wedding and they wind up being left almost as soon as they got married or having the wedding called off. I can blv that this girl is trying to live her best IG life bc a LOT of the ppl on IG are really IG addicts who happened to record their addiction for the world to see. All under the guise of Influencer.

For the first story I think people need to remember that not everywhere is Western-centric. It's not really cool to call people out for things that might be obvious if you're from a place like America, when there are different biases and concerns. I'm not saying that people are wrong as such, just that not everyone automatically has "a shiny spine" or feels comfortable "just talking to them already!" Idk, I think we could all just be more generous to people's struggles. ETA: it's something I'm working on too.

In the past, children were taught how push past their insecurities and fears. If you had a problem speaking in groups, then you were assigned more speaking roles. You were encouraged to join school plays. The more book reports you read in front of the class the better you get at presenting. Oddly enough this also impacts other areas if your life. If your coach doesn't let you quit and make it to the top of the wall, your brain chemistry changes as you realize you can do it. Dealing with anxiety about openly communicating is much the same. It looks like students are being taught to embrace the insecurities as opposed to fighting and overcoming them. This is a problem.

Wtf, why is marriage still open if they are sleeping together, I thought it was open coa OP thought they were asexual, this woman is just daft

I can’t help but think the “why don’t people communicate” comments come from healthy people lol. Lots of people have generational trauma attached to not being able to communicate effectively so it’s a skill being learned in adulthood. I think we should give people grace, just like OPs husband. He understood her enough to know she needed to vocalise it herself and he let her come to that realisation herself.

I think the point is that after the initial setup by they're family, they were free to say no if they didn't like each other.

She was demisexual or was afraid of sex/sexual relationships. She has to talk to him. To him nothing has changed other than he also having sex with op. Op has to talk and see where it goes. Either it goes with them being exclusive, they keep being "poly" but both now, or a divorce

While it’s not impossible that story 1 is true (arranged marriages are a thing in many cultures and while not always, it’s a natural thing that two people cohabitating with the opposite sex and are straight and a fake marriag? And then actually, she falls for him and he loves her all along and the fact he’s a childhood friend

If it is real, then I’m glad it’s working out. Also yeah, communication is key. But, if in her culture it’s not normal or even taboo to date and you just go straight to marriage and cohabitation communication can be difficult to grasp 😊

Why not just talk to him? You know the thing he did with you. I can getthat sex can be taboo subject even for this culture. But they had to communicate about the issue before, and then again when he asked if sex was on the table for them now. So i don't fully get why it so hard now, maybe because feelings are involved now, but sabotaging is just kinda manipulative.

When you told him he could sleep with other women it doesn't sound like you thought far ahead enough to wonder what would happen if he ended up falling in love with one of these other women. Especially because you didn't have romantic feelings for him until you had sex with him then all of a sudden that completely changed the relationship so what made you think he was just going to be able to go have casual sex with all these different women and not end up falling for one of them? Stop being childish and talk to him. You're going to have to at some point whether it ends up being awkward or not. Also why can't you escape him you're a grown up, you are allowed to get a divorce. I mean that's obviously going to happen eventually if he finds somebody that he's more compatible with and wants to actually have a relationship with. I mean were you just going to make him be your husband for the rest of his life and never let him have a fulfilling life?

People always say "I don't understand why no talky" but it's actually a very straightforward thing, people don't like their fantasies finalized. If you have a romantic fantasy of being with someone and what the relationship would look like. You've constructed a fantasy that is desirable in your head, communicating that to the other person could challenge that, ruin it's possibility, or change it's dynamic completely. That is why people tend not to.
