I hope your kidneys bounce back! :) Kidney’s are strong though. Last year I found out I had a giant mass on my kidney that was cancerous, we removed the mass and took half the kidney with it, we figured my kidney function would go down with removing half the kidney, but nope! I still have full function in my kidney :) and I’m cancer free!

You guys are absolutely amazing!! My aunt has CF and I have Cerebral Palsy and at this point in time we are hospital buddies, I’ve been in the hospital for a week getting ready for a total spinal fusion (8+ hrs) and I’ve been here for about a week getting blood drawn and taking test. I recently got a PICC like which was new. Until then I’ll keep on keeping on. I hope you get to go home soon! And thank you so much for the positivity my family needs it. Much love from Missouri ❤️

Mary, sorry that this is happening to you. Though pain warriors have the shared experience of the ups and downs of these chronic illnesses, each one of us has issues that are unique. I hope that things quickly turn around for you. I will pray for your kidneys to heal quickly. ( BTW, I am also in the small percentage of ppl who get anaphylactic reactions to antibiotics and other meds, it does make things a bit difficult at times, so I totally get what you are going thru. )

Keep the faith mary. My kidneys dropped stats for three days straight. But with constant IV hydration it slowly came back. It's at 75 percent usage. But I am very blessed for that. Praying for a quick recovery!

Hi Mary! I’m also a cf patient and think you’re amazing ❤️ I feel the pain I had my kidneys blasted a few years back by Ivs that successfully got rid of my M.abscessus for good but all I remember is pain like pencils stabbing my lower back and desperately eating loads of red grapes because I read somewhere they help kidney function 😂 my kidneys are fine now though so keep going strong! 🙅‍♀️

Dear Maryand Peter and of course Olli, I'v been folowing your chanel pritty much since you started. I started following you because you hade a poodle service dog (I too want one but I'm still not well enough to take care of puppy time nor taking him out to use the restroom) but I continued watching because of you. I don't post here because some of your followers keep saying that this is a christian chanel and I'm christian by culture only, not by faith. Anyway, I don't have CF but I have another rare lung condition. I have learned so much from you. Thank you for IV Ig I'm on it now (SUB Q not IV) and it seams to help. Thank you for more than one nebulizer for all my inhalations tomorrow Monday I'm calling my doctors office to discuss that. And that's just two of so many. Well, enough about me. First; are'nt hospital staff amazingly lovely. Your team cam by on a Saturday. That is love for their patients. I hope I don't make anyone too upse,t but I have a couple of questions about CF and your brand of CF Mary. I know that this was yesterday and I hope your kidneys are behaving by now. Can you with your flavor of CF get dialysis if the numbers get to funky? An other one has to do with transplants. Mary can you go on lungs only or will you likely need a five organ transplant. If this is the route that you choose of course. I have one other question that can be seem controversal. I don't know if it could be a potential option for you but have you and your team considered trying kidney protection with NAC? I know it is used in kidney patients who need IV contrast dyes and there is limited research on its use for kidney protection during antibiotic therapy, even though most of the literature available is about aminoglycosides and vancomycin related kidney damage. It might be something to look into... I don't know

I understand that your sister's illness and treatment was different than your's, but were there similarities in the general progression of CF and the way to fight with all of the antibiotics?

It really depends. Different CFers will have different sets of bacteria they culture and those bacteria will have different sets of sensitivities that dictate the use of different antibiotics. Assuming no allergy, usually for Pseudomonas, treatment will go like this : An aminoglycoside (usually Tobramycin) in combination with a beta-lactamase like Piperacilline-Tazobactam or Ceftazidime for as long as the Pseudomonas is sensitive to them. As Pseudomonas develops a resistances or patients grow intolerant to antibiotics, that is when it gets tricky. For a lot of people, Piperaciline-Tazobactam and Ceftazidime get replaced with Meropenem. Tobramycin sometimes gets replaced with Cipro or Colistin. Almost all CFers start with culturing Staphylococcus and which slowly gives way to Pseudomonas. Then as they age and get weaker, their lungs get infected with more opportunistic and much more difficult to treat bacteria like Stenotrophomonas, Cepacia, and Mycobacteria.
